topsy,
Sorry for the little bits that are changing your topic.

For what it is worth my thoughts on the industry is that there is just too much of it.

WHY do we have to have racing on a Sunday for example, isn't 6 days a week enough.

Not that I am any expert on the subject but I was reading on the weekend that the next Randwick meeting is to be run on the inner track much to the objections of the trainers etc, because of changed distances of some of the races which doesn't help in the preparation of their horses.

The trainers wanted the meeting switched to the farm but were told by the AJC that the TAB wouldn't allow it.

THERE'S the answer to the decline, the tabs and the dollars.

Why the hell should a TAB have a say in where a race club wants to run it's meeting.

Cheers

thanks kenchar.

thats getting back to where we started isnt it.
in hobart and launceston racing was moved from saturday to sunday i believe at sky channels request (owned by tab).
this left the punters out of it on saturdays in tasmania.
it seems the tail is wagging the dog and the dog is starting to fall off.
there's nothing like disregard to get up the noses of people.

i think sky channel is part of the reason for decline - it should be a servant to racing but it is the other way around.
the industry is being used.

If the Tabs run racing then we run the tabs.....we are the only one's that can fix this but are to stupid to do so.....wouldn't it be great if on one saturday we all boycoted the races...no one had a bet and we all stayed home....like punters on strike....that would send a big message to the Tabs...no betting no turnover no % take out....what would it cost the tabs just for one day....maybe the trainers should go on strike for one day.....this would be easier to arrange....it seams that strikes are the only way to get the message accross

Racing's downward spiral began with the introduction of the TAB, long before privatisation. Up here we have the beautiful Sunshine Coast racecourse at Caloundra.....sits idle for around 48 Saturdays a year. Why?, blackmailed by the TAB to race on Sundays.

From what i understand and i am probably wrong sunday races were brought in to get more to the track....being a sunday is generally family day....i use to go to Warwick farm on sundays and there were more there than on a wednesday....as far as i am concerned wednesday races are no better than a country race meet...you use to get a couple of welters and an open race now it is all restricted....i am suprised they don't have restricted to donkeys
