hey Dr Ron, thx for pointing out the Tas Tote site, thats a very nice free form guide. i particularly like the fact that it clearly tells you where the horse likes to race (raced midfield; raced at rear etc).

Sportz,

Oh okay. Thanks. Guess I should have looked a bit harder.

thanks for the input dr ron.

DR RON 6th January 2005 06:25 PM

No worries System, Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Brave Chief, I was wondering about the * myself.

Sportz, I dont know if putting in the decimal point will make much of a difference as even if you do the Tasmanian Tote one will still be a bit higher in 90% of cases.

Thanks Ron. Can you tell me how do you use the Tas Tab ratings? Do you take weights into account or do you simply look for horses with the highest rating in the race?

I take my base rating for a horse and subtract 5 points for every half a kilo over the limit or bottom weight. also include allowances.
I must STRESS that I am still in the experimental stages with this and am assuming that a rating of 600 is the same as a weight rating of 60. I have got a feeling this may be wrong but for the moment I am going with it. I thought it might be an interesting experiment if we could all do weight ratings for one race and post the results and see how close they come out to each other. Any other comments onthis welcome. I f there are enough takers I will try and organisesomething. Maybe the main race in Melbourne whatever that is.

Hmmm, could be a damn good idea that!!! :)

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Do you have a method for pricing the horses you've rated? I have a method based loosely around Don Scott's ratings to prices idea. I posted it on here about 6 months or so ago. I can dig it up for you if you like.

Should we start a new thread for that???

Sportz 6th January 2005 07:54 PM

Yeah, we should definitely start another thread.

Not quite sure where we should put it.... here or in the Horse Racing Forum. Perhaps the Horse Racing forum? That's where the people who post ratings, put theirs. We'll have to nut out some rules first though. I reckon we should pick out the 2 strongest open class handicap races with fields not too small or too big and no odds-on fav.
