No mate, was at work and only saw it later.Had a couple of collects off Wayne Hokai today, i tend to follow him.Another jockey worth watching is Steve Arnold.

What made you back Brolene.I used to follow double zeros but you need a good bank.I find replacement jockeys can be rewarding as well but there can be substantial gaps between collects

Sportz 24th February 2005 08:28 PM

Well, this probably sounds absolutely stupid but I get a few nice collects out of it, so here goes.

I tend to use this only on big fields (say 14+) or sometimes on the last race of the day (minimum 10 runners). If I have two horses picked out in the race and one of them is starting from either the inside or outside barrier, then I also have a small each-way bet on the horse starting from the other barrier.

For example, in that race today, my top two picks were clearly numbers 9 & 5. Well, number 9 was starting from barrier 1, so I also put a small bet on number 17 which was starting from the outside barrier. That was the only reason I backed it. It's form was absolutely awful. These were the races I used this method on today:

Mackay R8
Top pick: 10 Blue Racer UNP
2nd pick: 2 Captain Kilometre (outside) WON $9.70
Roughie: 12 Special Diam (inside) UNP

Hawkesbury R6
Top pick: 5 Come In Spanner Won $2.30
2nd pick: 8 Mersey Beat (inside) PLA
Roughie: 15 Jonnywoo (outside) UNP

Bendigo R6
Top pick: 9 Maple Spirit (inside) PLA
2nd pick: 5 Hotspurs PLA
Roughie: 17 Brolene (outside) WON $124.30

Geraldton R7
Top pick: 1 Chief O'Hara UNP
2nd pick: 4 Corporate Georgina (outside) UNP
Roughie: 3 Clairside (inside) UNP

By the way, as you can see, I could have had the trifecta in Brolene's race but didn't put one on. I took a quinella instead. Quinella paid a nice $316 but the trifecta was $3870!!!

Thanks Sportz.

I also followed widest barriers regardless of form for a few weeks.

My theory was that by the time it came to the last two races the inside ground had become impacted and rock hard and the wider ground was fresher and easier on the horse. It works, but the run of outs put me off and i started on another plan.

Your method is more targeted and i will give it a go.

Another idea i have is based on horses running together as in a herd.Outside barrier would group with the inside as often the widest horse will compete with the ace draw for the front running position. The horse you fancied was the favourite which would probably also be running handy. It was also the 100 rated horse in theory it had previously done something special.

The above horses would naturally group together and exclude the rest of the field and therein lies the trifecta.

Other horses i throw into the herd group are the topweight and those drawn either side of the horse carrying most of the above factors.

Ah yes, that's another thing I forgot. Almost always, one of my selections is the highest unitab rating in the race.

Anyway, that's enough of my silly system.

kiwi 25th February 2005 07:18 AM

No mate your system is not silly.

Bet with the public elects you will eventually lose.

Innovation and new ideas are the key to winning. Some of my strangest ideas have paid best. These systems go good for a while then fade. The key is to notice the dying throes of a system and try a new one.

It is also appears a dead system can revive and be viable again.I check old ideas to try and pick when this happens.Your inside outside plan has encouraged me to go back to something i had given up on.
