The way i see it is he had 1,4,10 to win with the feild to come second.
So he gets paid only once.

He should get two pays because it doesn't matter what order they finish to win a quinella and the fact he had first and second as his bankers means he gets paid on both....if the bets were put on seperatly he would get paid twice

i think there may have been a mistake in the way the bets were placed such as an exacta....what were the divis on the race and what did you get paid
and exacta and a quinella in theis case would cost the same

The trap for young player lies in the clarity of the word “field”. In my case I assumed that “the field” meant ALL other runners outside my selection. My thought process was that if I ticked my 3 standouts on the 1st leg line of the quinella indicated that I thought that any of these 3 would run first/second. (I am sure that many others would also have the same understanding) and if I ticked “F”(for field) on the second line it would indicate that I would get paid should any of the 3 standouts finished 1 or 2. Alas not – the NSW TAB computer thinks that the 3 standouts should be excluded from the field as they have already been selected elsewhere. The long and the short of it is that should I wish to achieve what I wanted with one bet (as I’ve indicated above) I couldn’t do it. I have to have 3 bets as in Selection 1 with the field, Selection 2 with Field and Selection3 with the field.
As for the cost – In my example the cost $18 -for 1$. (1 with 2,3,5,6,7,8 (which is NOT the field is it?) - 4 with the same & 10 with the same) If it was taken in the way I wanted the cost would have been $24
Anyway that’s the answer from NSW TAB thanks to all listers who had their 2 bobs worth. It certainly cleared something for me and perhaps others as well.

I couldn't see how that could be correct as the field is EVERY runner, so just logged on and submitted a bet to check the cost and you are totally correct and agree it is a trap for the unwary.

Dont mean to be critical,to each his own,but why would you take 3 standout selections in a 9 horse field?Depending on actual prices,if you had narrowed the field down to 3 main chances Imo,especially in a small field,you would have much better off pricing you 3 banker combos and betting to win a certain amount.What I mean is only bet your 3 quins,so if it was your intent to spend $24 on the race even without betting to prices,you still could have had $8 on each combo.Quinellas are an art,and there are lots of overlays to be had by betting to prices,mainly in the under 10/1 range.Most punters in TABS will take your path with a banker/s hopin for a 100/1 shot to run second.Does happen sometimes,but you will go broke following that path.
