That might possibly be the silliest comment i have read on this forum, your saying the only way to win is by backing favourites, what a joke!!!!!

Readyforcatherine i had $20 on

thanks
Leroy

Chuck 19th November 2005 07:07 PM

sorry mate, yeah that should've been $67

crash 19th November 2005 07:18 PM

Congratulations are due to:
Krausey $273.00
bl4dez $131.00
Mad $126.00*

Great start boys.

************ed it for my day. Had Mock/ Brindsbella for a win today and even scored the tri., but didn't have the confidence to back Brindabella here. Thought Mock would kill em' but did nothing. Got the tri. and win using Classic Karla as a banker in Brisb. Nice day at home but could have done better her. Next week folks.

Cheers,

"To have a Win Only competition is useless if one is not a favorites backer; so count us out!"

Can't believe the Friedmans said that. I've never seen a political or point scoring bone in any of their posts till now. I'm shocked... Family problems?

Nothing stopping them from creating a longshot only comp. I'd be in:-)

Panther 19th November 2005 07:41 PM

Please don't forget to add $31 for Stormy Sequalo which won at Toowoomba after you posted balances

mad 19th November 2005 07:42 PM

Was a good win too Panther, well done mate.

Panther 19th November 2005 08:50 PM

Also, just noticed that 1 of my tips--Banished--was a late scratching--does this mean I get an extra tip next week?

crash 19th November 2005 09:15 PM

$10 on top of your $50 next week mate.

This demonstrates our point about not participating in a Win-only tipping competition.

AUSTRALIAN HORSERACING (Sydney and Melbourne)

Results for Saturday 19 November 2005, for the Friedman Family Outsiders.
.
Oh, so close! Zev had 3 good outsider placings (53/1, 45/1 & 21/1) - he still won on the day but can you imagine if they had won! I had a good 42/1 placegetter.

We are not trying to be political or score points.
All we are trying to point out is that we could not participate in a tipping competition that is based on wins only, as we only select outsiders, and are able to win quite regularly on placings.
Obviously, due to the nature of our selections we have close to "Buckley's" of selecting winners, so when we do, it is a bonus!
When we talk about "favourites" we are referring to "favoured horses" which are usually the 1st, 2nd & 3rd favourites.
Sorry if we offended some people - it was not intentional.
.
Cheers,
Friedman Family

Yes, Crash - a long-shot tipping competition sounds like a good idea, but how do you defind a "long-shot"? Obviously, not the favourite. But is a 2nd favourite @ 7/1 a long-shot. Come to think of it, is a favourite @ 8/1 a long-shot? - very open races, such as the Melbourne Cup often have had a favourite @ 8/1.
.
Our "Friedman Family" definition is >10/1, but even our outsiders (>10/1 on Thurs or Fri) have sometimes started well under 10/1. If they win or get placed, do we eliminate them because they ended up starting under 10/1?
.
A lot of questions need to be sorted out before such a competition could be started - suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
.
However, in the end, the competition should really be about making a profit consistently; be it betting for the win only, each way, placings only, quinellas, exactas, doubles, trifectas, quadrellas, super 6 jackpots, or whatever; although the more exotic, the less the chance.
.

D105Black 21st November 2005 09:08 AM

Hey Chuck, you forgot me.

My $20 should be refunded as I had it on Roman Arch who was a scratching.

Please update, frendo.

crash 21st November 2005 09:22 AM

Martin,
A long-shot to me is double figures PP, as it's impossible to know the SP in advance to put selections in a forum. Generally, double figure SP would be classed as a true long-shot.

I agree to a point, but in the end someone has to go through all the results and dividends and work out the winning order of participants. Are you putting your hand up for the above approach:-) ?.

The win bet makes it easier to the kind soul who does that job, Chuck this time around.

Longshots

I agree Crash - from that point of view you are right.
However, from our point of view, we would have no chance in a win-only competition, as the best we can hope for are consistently placed longshots, with a win being a bonus.

Martin,

I know you specialize in long-shots, but the 3 of you must indulge in handicapping or some form of final selection process. I don't think you throw darts at a form guide[?]. You have as much chance as anyone in this competition by selecting winners, not place getters, regardless of odds. I can't see a problem as the comp. favors nobody's selection system. It's fair to all comers and I have no problems selecting any priced horse including long-shots here if I think they can win.

Mr. Magoo is a $20 special selection today for me in the conp. That horse is definitely a long-shot. If it wins I go up the ladder. If it doesn't, well it's only a forum comp., no money is involved. If I end up coming last at the end of it. I won't lose sleep over it even if I'm heckled for getting the duck egg [last].

Cheers and hope your thread selections have a good day.
