Great figures Wes. It is the long-priced winners that make the difference. Backing shorties, no matter how well-credentialled they appear to be and how impressive the strike rates are, still results in a long term loss. Your strike rate is very good. I think having a reasonable strike rate is important from a psychological point of view. Long dry spells are demoralising - not saying anything that nobody doesn't know here though.

I was happy to see my balckbook bet get up. There won't be many that I put up as I only have 19 horses in the blackbook and I rate them as per their last race and the competiton they are facing next race. Another balckbooker ....
 

I have another blackbook running around today. I think it is a chance of minor placings and may have a slight chance of winning the race.

The horse is Mr Alpine in Canterbury Race 5. He ran a close second in barrier trials to Pulsator back in Novemeber losing by 1.5 lengths. To be this close to Pulsator was a good effort as it was a different class entirely. Since then he has been in 2 races for 60K prize money and came mid field in both losing by 3 lengths and 5 lengths. This race looks to be a touch easier with the prize money being only 23K. Most of the other horses have not ran a race before and his race experience should help out.

I won't be counting this tip in my usual stats but thought I would put it out there for anyone looking for a horse to back in the race.

This is my first blackbook selection from barrier trials to run where I thought it might place. I didn't expect him to place in either of his last 2 runs.
