Hope you had something on Blazing Hearts mate not sure how you picked it but extremely well done.
|
Yes, I had a small amount on it, Raw. I can't say I had booming confidence but this horse had shown a bit. When you're betting the sort of prices of many of my selections it allows you to be wrong quite a few times and still be in front. I think I was prouder to be just $7 behind after 400 bets. Anyway, the proof now is in the pressing on.

Thanks Horse Whisperer. I use my own rating method. I've tried to go outside the excellent, logical criteria of the mainstream following the principles of Don Scott etc. While they identify a large number of winners, just about everyone is doing them so the prices are short. With reliable markets put up nice and early by several of the online bookmakers I'm now able to place my bets in a single batch. I tried following this method several years ago betting race by race but because there can be long runs of outs found it wearing and frustrating. Also, work commitments meant that I was constrained by time. It's been a bit of a dream run this year but it has thrown up excellent winners in the past (Sapio $156/1 Doomben Cup, Frenzilian $150+ and Kindrate $90 are a ferw I can recall off the top of my head). I do know that being a successful punter is one of the ultimate challenges so I'm never over confident. Anyway, hope it keeps up and thanks for your comments.

UPDATE
I think it's pretty clear that place betting following this type of horse is not a winning proposition so I'll stop updating place bets.
Results for 14 November 2009 BETS = 32 OUTLAY = $32 RETURN = $29.5 (St Fraser $28.5 Delago's Choice $1 [scratched]) PROGRESSIVE BETS = 517 OUTLAY = $517 RETURN = $695 Lots of terrible runs, especially in NZ where I thought some of the horses selected had reasonable chances. With that in mind it was good to finish just $2.5 behind on the day. I wonder if one of the corporate bookies has considered offering one quarter the odds of the best tote price for the place. |
TThese have shown a little and have rough hopes today:

RESULTS 17 and 21 November BETS = 22 OUTLAY = $22 RETURN = $20.9 (Bashful Girl $19.9, Coconut Grove $1 [Scratched] ) PROGRESSIVE BETS = 539 OUTLAY = $539 RETURN = $715.9 Place betting may be a goer if you're getting best of 3 totes. Sometimes it's a nice consolation to get a big place div. after just being nutted. I suppose it depends on your temperament. On those really bad days it means double the outlay for a meagre return. A bit of work would pull the place up to about level pegging I think. |

sorry mate ive backed this one so its no hope....lol |
He ran ordinarily Horse Whisperer. Two preparations back he was running brilliantly and the hope was that he could dredge up some of that form early in a preparation. Wasn't to be. The one that really made me sick was Ready To Please who was in front a stride past the post. Sportsbet had him at 100/1 so at those odds, a definite each-way bet. I'd say any of these at 34/1 plus could probably be backed each way. Tote pays a long way unders on the place and I'm not sure why. Looking at it mathematically, shouldn't place odds work out at one third of the win div? Can anyone explain why it isn't so? I could be missing something really obvious here.

Update
Back under the rock until Áutumn I think. Best I could do today was a late scratching.
BETS = 679 Outlay $679 Return $731.9 I think the curse of the forum was beginning to weave its evil magic. My observation, though not backed by hard evidence, is that horses in the longer price ranges show up early in their preparations. The horses resuming in the Autumn and Spring are often very talented gallopers and so, capable of beating city class when not fully wound up. The sort of horse resuming at this time of year is more often than not struggling to win in Saturday class when fully fit. Hope everyone has a merry Christmas and happy New Year. |
