Mr J 10th June 2004 06:11 PM

Very cool guys. Everyone putting out there predictions now you know how I feel!!

I've a few games so far, and I'm glad you guys agree with hawthorn taking it to carlton. My unweighted ratings had carlton -6, my weighted has it pretty much even. Like the +27.5 offered here.

Well I've got a big call here. My ratings are a bit off but StK by 9. Hey I picked it last wkend maybe I'll be right here???Doubt it.

I've got brissie by 5 so I'll be on the home team.

So scores are:
Carl-Haw 90-90
WB-StK 107-98
Ess-Bris 96-101

I think I'll need to make some mods to the system. It was created for Super 12s and works well for NRL, I just think it needs some adjustments for a much higher scoring game (AFL).

Ending your tips with doubt. You're definately not pulling marbles out of a barrel there. I'm quite sure you've put a lot of effort into your selections and I think you should show more confidence in your ability.

Moeee,

I am basically a very UNconfident person and I always worry that any tips I post on here will fail dismally.

However, I've recently begun posting racing tips on the Horse Racing forum, and so far they've actually done pretty well and a few people seem to appreciate them, so I guess I really shouldn't worry so much.

Nothing major. I just basically updated my ratings on a few of the teams based on form, injuries, suspensions and the H2H record against this week's opponents. Most of the teams stayed pretty much the same however.

Sounds like I've missed all the fun boys...been out with the flu and suffering from Fremantle fever as well!!!

The break has done me a lot of good, let's hope that it brings me luck as well..

Anyway, for what its worth, I don't think Carlton will know what's hit them tomorrow and I'm taking a line bet on the Hawks (they may not win but it will be closer than the 27.5 points on offer...)

Staying away from the Dockers against the Tigers...they have to stop Richo to have a chance...that's all Im saying.

Adelaide on the line look some value against the Eagles- its been quite heavy rain over here and if that continues it will be mud wrestling...could be good for the oldie Crows to get within 22 points.

Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, Saints and the Port to win their respective games...

Good luck guys and again great to read your thoughts and stats!

sportznut 11th June 2004 07:36 AM

My thoughts:

Carlton vs Hawthorn
Neither of these sides are good betting propositions. On form Carlton should certainly win this, but I expect Hawthorn to really guts it out, especially after what's happened during the week. The 27.5 pts start may be a bit too much.

W.Bulldogs vs St Kilda
I think it was a good wakeup call for the Saints last week and Brad Johnson out is a real loss for the dogs. My ratings suggest a BIG win for St Kilda, but I'm not as confident of that at the MCG as if the game was at the Dome.

Essendon vs Brisbane
The Bombers are in good form winning 8 out of their last 9 and they won the last encounter between these two teams at this ground. I expect it to be pretty close, but I think the Bombers can win, so Essendon +8.5 looks okay to me. (I'll still be cheering for the Lions though)

West Coast vs Adelaide
Adelaide have a good record in Perth, but I still favour the West Coast to get up here. I think the 22.5 points start could be a bit too much though. The Crows will be determined this week after an awful loss last week.

Port Adel vs Sydney
Sydney beat Port the last time they played here, but that was a final and we all know what happens to the Power in finals. I think Port can get up in this one, but I don't really expect a big margin though.

Geelong vs Kangaroos
The Kangaroos have a GREAT record against Geelong, but this is a vastly improved Cats team from previous years and their recent form has been excellent. I think they should win this one, but the Roos will certainly be tough and once again it could be less than 20 points.

Richmond vs Fremantle
My ratings suggest a very close match here, but neither of these teams really inspires any betting confidence for this game. The Tigers certainly have a great record against Fremantle at the MCG, but their current form is terrible. Who knows?

Melbourne vs Collingwood
The Demons are the surprise of the competition, although this IS an even numbered year, so we should have expected it. On form, Melbourne should have too much for the Magpies. Although Buckley is back, they could be without Tarrant AND Rocca. I feel the Demons should prevail by over 20 points.

Does that mean I apologised and it wasn't even me ?

Mo.

quapi 11th June 2004 04:30 PM

It's good to own up, though.

Someone else didn't apologise and continued on as before.

goldmember 12th June 2004 04:19 PM

Moeee, did you know something we didn't when you quoted st kilda $14.00 and w/bulldogs $1.07

goldmember 12th June 2004 04:35 PM

moeee, i went back to the P/F in 1997 for overall matches to correspond to there last 20 at the m.c.g and they played 136 games for 46 wins [+ 2 draws], roughly 34%

sportznut 12th June 2004 04:43 PM

Well, they could be in trouble, because to win the title they've got to be able to win at the MCG and there's no doubt that they're a better team at the Dome.

No,but you knew something I didn't.HOW TO TYPE.

And further to that as an edit, just goes to show there ain't no hoodoo, just consistency.

Some games are worth betting on and some ain't.We all thought the Saints would ******** in.I never lost a cent on them.

Yeah, I agree there. I must admit that I thought the Saints would win and probably win well today, but they were never a good betting proposition in this match at $1.10 and -42.5.

I did however back the Bombers tonight with 8.5 start and it looks like that bet is down the drain. Can't say I'm totally upset though. Go Lions!

goldmember 12th June 2004 09:08 PM

They still have a couple of players to come back in ,where are they going to put them??

goldmember 12th June 2004 09:11 PM

DON'T BE HARD ON YA SELF, BEFORE THE GAME EVERYONE THOUGHT THE SAINTS WOULD WIN AND MOST THOUGHT THE KNIGHTS[ I WASN'T SURE]

Floydyboy 12th June 2004 09:20 PM

No excuses with the saints ..But I jumped in early couldnt resist the odds on the Knights I thought Ben Kennedy was playing then they say hes going to Manly and hes not playing It was a big influence in my betting ...But I also thought the Storm was the easiest money of the weekend ....so there ya go

Mr J 12th June 2004 09:29 PM

I only had the Saints by 9. I also had Souths winning outright

goldmember 12th June 2004 09:33 PM

Yeah, b.kennedy was suppose to play ? a bit sus to me, although there was a doubt on j. perry, he's got a bad back, but with no johns, buderus and kennedy to do all the hard stuff, i was weary and stayed out of the game, i've jumped in early before and got burned, so i have learnt the hard way too, i nearly jumped on the swans as i thought they could win and then o'loughlin, barry and doyle came out, so lucky i didn't, because now, i think port will probably win.

goldmember 12th June 2004 09:36 PM

Mr J, good tip, as i said on the nrl post very close, did you have a good win on them?

12th June 2004 09:36 PM

I had Eagles by under 39.5. 15 minutes into 4th quarter they were up by 55, but ended up winning by just 32.
