Outlay for the trifectas is $5550
I never kept a record in the beginning on the distribution of points between my selection and the Fav (and yes i know i should of )but for a rough idea
12950 points have been outlayed between the two ..but of course the fav would of had the majority of these points..
So in summary the trifectas have been the most profitable.but it would be interesting to know exactly how much i outlayed on my selections..
I'll look back on the last few weeks so i got some sort of percenatge..
also in the beginning i was only targeting races with my selection..i then modified it to where i thought the Fav was the most likely danger..

Hope thats clear..i've never been much of a record keeper..so this thread really helps me out..

I usually follow the market..but sometimes its a judgment call especially if their are 2 or sometimes 3 that are fluxiating.. I usually only bet in a race where i think the fav is the main danger to my selection. So even if this fav blows out alittle i still usually stick with it.
Last Saturday for instance i backed full cards for a test to see whether i needed to do so much form study.
in most of those races i backed the fav based on the market from Iasbet.
All figures are based on iasbet markets and payout figures.

the system seems to work even though if i went straight out say 100 to win on just my selections i would of been up 3500 on Saturday. But on Sunday i would of lost 200..
Saturday was a good day and i'm not kidding myself i can pull those sorts of winners regulary. so this system with the 2 safegaurds the Fav and the Tri suits me.Sort of gives me peice of mind.
I still have my plunge race every Saturday where i bet Max 2000 and lately ive been on a huge roll with it ,,but i stick to my limit because i know theres the dreaded run of outs thats bound to come my way soon.
i hope ive got enough put away for it. :wink:

Do you intentionally go looking for a horse which isn't the favourite, or is that just the way it works out. What happens if your selection ends up being the favourite?

Sometimes my selection is the Favourite like on saturday i selected Umbula ,Casino Knight
Feather Duster ect.
I study a race and if i like a value runner i mark it.
i then look at the likely Fav and if i think thats the main danger i bet.
If the fav looks to good then i'll back it instead.
Yesterday for instance Crackerjacks hope was about 25's but i also thought Maizcay Magic was the threat..Also in the next Lion Queen was always going to be the danger to Miss Alyta.
Saturday was just a bit fun. Most of those races i had my selection and whoever was the market fav..
On Saturday at the Gold coast i had Carlita Miss as fav but it probably started on the third line..also Consular i thought would of been Fav but i'm pretty sure Tellem ended up shorter.
The whole "bet if i like the Fav as the danger" thing as proven on Saturday is probably a whole waste of time.
But as pointed out by Mr Ed sometimes Favs are favs for no other reason than say waterhouse is training it or Beadmans riding it..we've all heard of the Beadman factor..

Your looking good Maverick,

I would like to see you go through this thread and work out exactly how much you have spent on your selection, favorites, and trifes (if your selection is the fave then include all money as your selection), then work out the return from the three. From here you can see if all three modes of betting are profitable and hence therefore neccessary. I can see that on a day to day basis having the three fallbacks can reduce your losses but on your good days they are also reducing your profits. If you go back and see you are running at a loss from the favourite (savers) why not scrap them. Just food for thought but it is widely understood that if you back favorites in every race you will end up losing and i cant help but think that if you are consistently using the fave to save this factor will occur in your system. You mentioned how long you spend studying the form and i would hate to see alot of that time wasted on savers that are unnecessary in the long run.

But as i say you are going splendidly and you may find all three betting modes are neccessary, just having my two bobs worth.

here are some rough figures
My Selections 9600 return 11000
favourites 4700 return 5600
trifectas 7000 return 11000

The tifecta figures are acurate because i always bet 30 so that was easy
With the My selction and fav figures these are from probabaly the 2ndweek in when i started to realise i should be keeping more acurate figures.
I'm going to keep more acurate records form now on things and include
The length of the races.
How many runners.
what sort of race as well.

The favs seem to be doing ok . Maybe i should be saying the "more Fancied runner" than the favourite because in some races i'm not backing the actual market Fav...
eg..On Saturday Tellem ran fav but unproven at the distance and with Consular and Deuixeme proven and in form that made no sense to me..
i probably filter out some of those favs so my strikerate is better.

The trifectas is what has proven very succesful.
