Hope you're right Goldmember. I must admit I didn't like his 400 swim at all. He was 3 seconds outside his world record and he just didn't look like the Ian Thorpe we're used to.

Well, Ian Thorpe did look a bit better in the heats of the 200 freestyle today.

goldmember 15th August 2004 05:02 PM

seen apoll on who people think will win the 200m freestyle:
THORPE 73%
PHELPS 10%
HACKETT 8%
VAN HOOGENBAND 8%
OTHER 1 %

just goes to show there are some people havent got a clue!

Well, so much for that. I can sure stop 'em!!!

sportznut 15th August 2004 06:09 PM

Geez, the South Africans have nearly broken the world record in the heat of the 4x100 relay. I knew they had a good team, but I didn't think they were that damn good!!! Just forget what I said about the USA being certainties tonight.

Think I'd better quit giving tips.

mug punta 15th August 2004 06:13 PM

Did the Yanks have their a team swimming? i assume the sth africans must have to have swam that time

goldmember 15th August 2004 06:14 PM

SOUTH AFRICA beat the USA the heats of the relay, maybe there could be another upset in the morning, AUSTRALIA came home stong in their heat but some legs were dissapointing and RUSSIA is a chance

sportznut 15th August 2004 06:21 PM

No, the U.S didn't have their best team in and they will definitely improve a fair bit. They're going to have to though. I'm pretty certain the World Record will go.

South Africa have 2 of the 3 fastest swimmers in the world this year, but nobody really thought their other swimmers were quite good enough to match it with the USA who have 4 of the top 10. Looks like maybe they are!

Do you think the aussies can place as i can see it a big ask for them to win,i'll be cheering them on and i might get to have a sleep next sunday

sportzRus 15th August 2004 06:31 PM

Sure can!

sportznut 15th August 2004 06:36 PM

At this stage, I reckon it's a definite two horse race for gold between USA and South Africa with Australia, Russia, Italy and the Netherlands all battling for the bronze. I'm not confident at the moment, but if Australia is any chance when Thorpe gets in the pool, he'll probably get them home for a medal because he's such a great finisher.

I don't get how you get what Rabbitz means.

sportznut 15th August 2004 07:12 PM

Just had a look at the teams and the splits from the heats. The USA went without their 3 fastest swimmers in the heat and they can probably improve dramatically tonight. Their 1st leg was a disappointing 49.93. Jason Lezak will probably do at least 1 1/2 seconds better than that for a start, and with the addition of Crocker and Phelps, I'm almost certain the US will break the world record. The only question is how fast can the South africans go?

That's not right Goldmember. There's also:
2.57 a.m Women's 100m Butterfly Final
3.04 a.m Men's 100m Breaststroke Final

goldmember 15th August 2004 07:20 PM

Just went off what they had on ch 7, looks like i'll be getting up a lot earlier, thanks sportz.

sportznut 15th August 2004 07:26 PM

Never rely on Channel 7. Use this website:
http://www.athens2004.com/

Click on the sport you want on the right side of the screen, then scroll down to the day you want and ALL the events and results are there. You just have to remember to add 7 hours for Australian time.

Geez 15th August 2004 07:33 PM

or 5 for over here.

goldmember 15th August 2004 07:34 PM

Yeah i found that site a few days ago[ i posted it just before you ,hehe ]but it was easier to watch the telly.

Australian time? when did that happen?

sportznut 15th August 2004 07:40 PM

Geez, I'm sorry Geez.

Yeah, +5 hours for WA.

moeee 15th August 2004 07:56 PM

I like watching my money go round.
Where can I find out which events are live on free to air TV.
I don't got a TV WEEK.

sportznut 15th August 2004 08:04 PM

What do you mean Mo? It's all on Free To Air. Basically, all of the 'most popular' sports for Australian fans will be on Channel 7, and SBS is showing a lot of the rest. I just watched a Women's Beach Volleyball game on SBS between the Netherlands and some other country. I can't remember which. Didn't care one bit about the result, but it sure was good to watch!!!

sportznut 15th August 2004 08:09 PM

Basically all the major Olympic events like Swimming, Athletics etc will be shown live on 7, so if you use that website I mentioned earlier that'll tell you when they're on. If you can't watch them in the middle of the night, they replay all the finals at 7 am I think.

moeee 15th August 2004 08:11 PM

Like this.
If I know that in half an hours time SBS will be showing a Palestine versus Israel boxing match,I would like to race off and put a bet on so I can watch my money go round. No good betting on a Volley ball match being played at the same time,if they're not showing it.
Bit like Saturday nights AFL.I preferred to place a bet on the Port game rather than the Melbourne game because it was on live.
I'll try Googling up SBS.

goldmember 15th August 2004 08:20 PM

same here, i watched the port game live on fox[plus 3 nrl games] and the swans game on 10 at the same time through a open door.

sportznut 15th August 2004 08:27 PM

Centrebet is betting on a lot, but I think even they would shy at betting on some of the events SBS are showing. One thing though. On SBS, you'll get the whole event, whereas on Channel 7 they cut back and forth between about half a dozen sports.

I don't have pay tv, so I watched none of them. Come Sunday morning, aren't you all footballed out Goldmember???

moeee 15th August 2004 08:39 PM

Found some pdf file of what SBS is showing.
Womens cycling at 10 pm tonight.Backed the Pommie sheila.
Might have to consider chasing up Gamblerholics anonymous. This is getting out of hand.

sportznut 15th August 2004 08:48 PM

Mo, I do know that the Women's road race is on SBS at 10 o'clock. I'm not quite up with the form, but Australian Oenone Wood does have some sort of chance in that event. Here are the leading contenders from Centrebet:
LJUNGSKOG, Susanne (SWE) 4.50
COOKE, Nicole (GBR) 5.00
ARNDT, Judith (GER) 7.00
MELCHERS, Mirjam (NED) 7.00
ZIJLAARD van MOORSEL, Leontien (NED) 7.00
ZABIROVA, Zoulfia (RUS) 9.00
VALEN, Anita (NOR) 11.00
WOOD, Oenone (AUS) 11.00
BRODTKA, Angela (GER) 12.00
PUCINSKAITE, Edita (LTU) 13.00
WORRACK, Trixi (GER) 13.00
DEMET-BARRY, Deirdre (USA) 15.00
BESSETTE, Lyne (CAN) 17.00
LONGO-CIPRELLI, Jeannie (FRA) 26.00

sportznut 15th August 2004 08:49 PM

Oh, beat me to it.
