Hmmm, I don't know whether to go for broke and pick five absolute longshots or just try to gain a small profit so I can finish in the black.

Chuck 6th November 2004 07:01 PM

The funny thing is, well for me anyway, that i think i've only picked 4 or so winners in the entire comp...
$10 on Hugs Dancer in the craiglee - return: $285
$20 on Makybe Diva in the Cup - return: $70
$5 on Sky Cuddle in the Emirates - return: $279

285+70+279= $634

minus a few weeks worth of betting and you have my total

sportznut 6th November 2004 07:06 PM

Nah, you must have won a few more than that Chuck. You've had $550 worth of bets, so that means you've won over $1000.

Shaun 6th November 2004 07:22 PM

the worst i can finish next week is with $234 so i know i will be putting $10 on 5 longshots...

rabbitz 7th November 2004 08:37 AM

I ve got $60( $10 scratching from yesterday) next week to make up about $700 (to catch Chuck3000)
So Ive decide to have $20 on Horse A at 33-1
$10 0n Horse B at 10-1,$10 on Horse c at 25-1
$10 0n Horse d at even money(Im not Greedy)
Horse A $640 profit
Horse B $80 profit
Horse c $230 profit
Horse d $10 profit

That should be more than enough to win this comp,I think Ive given you lot enough start
I dont think it will be too hard to find horses to win at those prices
Cheers

Sounds like you've got it in the bag rabbitz

Raider 7th November 2004 09:10 AM

Sportznut,
it was a tactical move to back three scratchings again as I will attempt to come home with a wet sail next week with $80 !!! Will have more time to study next week. (I didn't get a chance to see your message about the scratching sorry).

sportznut 7th November 2004 10:44 AM

Yeah Raider, you worked that out well. When looking at your tips I was starting to think maybe you did intentionally tip scratchings to have more bets next week.

Rabbitz, you've obviously got everything planned so beautifully there. I don't think the rest of us should even bother trying next week.

Crash,

People who didn't tip on Oaks day weren't penalised and we did make it pretty clear that Cup day would be part of the comp. There were only a couple of people who have been regular tipsters that didn't tip on Tuesday.

I can understand where Crash is coming from because I went to cup day and was to busy to get my tips in that day, but, it was really only my own fault because I knew the rules so I think we can only blame ourselves.

sportznut 7th November 2004 12:10 PM

Yeah, from now on, we'll definitely try to stick to Saturdays almost all of the time. I do think Melbourne Cup day is too big a day to ignore though.

Ah I,ve taught you well Sportnutz
What about an AFL tipping comp next year
Rules as follows-
2 points win
3 points nominated draw
One game winner and margin BONUS 10 points
All tips in one hour before kick off ,first game of round
Obviously would run on middle thread
Weve got a bit of time to formulate the rules etc.I nominate you as mediator ,chief scorer etc
cheers

A BIT of time??? It's only November!!!

purpleheart68 7th November 2004 04:08 PM

Sportz, sorry I only did 3 races.Had to go out after I had posted so could not alter same.As I predicted some weeks back,Nulla or Chuck 3000 would be the swoopers!I'm still a slight chance of making the first4,but will have to lay off the amber fluid when making selections, guess I'm just not a wet tracker!!Well done Chuck with Sky Cuddles.Well done Sportznut and Shaun for all the time and effort you guys have so unselfishly put in ,particularly Sportz since you took over from Shaun. And also to Paddy for posting the fields etc. well in advance, thanks for all your time and effort,it is much appreciated.Just as an afterthought for next year,if it is a Spring Carnival tipping comp, should it not be restricted to Melbourne races only? What relevance do the other states have to the Melbourne Spring Carnival? My opinion only.

sportznut 7th November 2004 05:36 PM

Well, I personally would like it if we nominated say 3 or 4 major races each week that everyone must tip in instead of just one like this time. I think it adds interest when we're all tipping against each other in the same events. I do think we should still leave room for people to choose a few races of their own however.

Shaun 7th November 2004 05:41 PM

I agree on the melbourne part for the spring carnival...sounds good...and yes sportz did a good job of keeping us up to date on results....i agree on one thing ...hate wet tracks....but still a chance of winning this...going to inpliment a few of my old roughie plans for next week....they have been know to produce the $60+ winners....and i will need them to take back what i have held for so many weeks...lol

So I take that as a yes hey sportz
What price did you get India for?

sportznut 7th November 2004 06:09 PM

I only had $10 on them at $3.10. After the first innings I'm sure they would have been longer than $3.10.

Northerly 7th November 2004 06:52 PM

I had to go away for the weekend and when I left it was still up in the air whether Melb would go ahead. So I didn't have to time to send tips.
Just for the record (I know it wont count)
I would of got 1 winner, Demerger (did make sure I got a bet on it,) so would of made a small profit for the day.
Anyway, I would of had $70 yesterday due to 2 scratchings on Thursday. Do I get to use those next week?

sportznut 7th November 2004 07:07 PM

Yep.
