Thanks Sportz :D

system 15th January 2005 07:44 PM

yes i know and today i did that all because of price broadband unders and other was huge overs.but still was only fair to get rid of 1 and from now on if i have equal rated i will change them to make it easy on you.
p.s was nearly the perfect result if protest had been upheld my pocket would have been a lot bigger.or if the 4th horse had of run 2nd.

Duritz 15th January 2005 08:10 PM

Well I did my **** everywhere today. Couldn't get a winner anywhere. I had a good go at Mr Lofty each way at 16's and knew when he missed the kick three lengths, got caught last in a slow pace and came home well for a close 5th that it was not going to be my day.

I now officially hate Caulfied again. And Belmont for that matter.

Duritz.

Sportz 15th January 2005 09:01 PM

Belmont??? I had a GREAT day betting on Belmont today. What was wrong with it? Nearly all of my bets for the Tipping Comp were in Belmont today too.

maverick1993 15th January 2005 09:40 PM

Don't worry Duritz ...i had a shocker today as well...Raw instinct got smashed on the corner and taos pleasure just wasnt good enough...
on a day where i had a stack on Gullivers travels got the tri and 1st 4 in Melbourne race 7 i still ended up down a couple of grand..
..ironic that in the last at Doomben if Dodging noses out Minassi i get the tri 5 times and the 1st 4 5 times...and $500 on the nose at $3,30...just one of those days :)......even worse that after being devasted by that last race i was a second to late to back Yubi at the Coast in the last which would of puts me $1000 ahead,,,,,,almost seems kinda funny :(

Sportz 15th January 2005 10:07 PM

Bad luck Mav.

I had Yubi AND Minassi. Good old outside barrier in the last!!! :)

Duritz 15th January 2005 10:12 PM

Whats wrong with Belmont? Plenty when you don't back a winner there! Remember, racing is very subjective.

system 16th January 2005 05:57 AM

duritz did you put mr lofty in the little black book?

Yeah, so far I've had equal 5th selections in 2 of the 3 races we've rated and on both of those occasions I've gone for the one at shortest pre-post odds, whereas of course I should really have gone for the one at longest pre-post odds. Would have done very well if I had.

zorro 16th January 2005 04:27 PM

Guess who's the clown who didn't have a cent on Irish Crusader at the massive overs - ************!

system 16th January 2005 04:32 PM

it was overs with me to i rated it $10.90 but was about 6th or 7th in order(irish crusader)

Duritz 16th January 2005 08:40 PM

System yes Mr.Lofty RETAINS his spot in the little black book - just wish Moody would take him to Flemington..... His run 1st up was indicative that he is in top form, just needs the right race(s)!

xptdriver 17th January 2005 09:58 AM

Gday All,

I liked the races you blokes put up to rate. All I did all day Saturday was box the 5 in quinellas ( no one will convince me that it is not the best value bet going around) in the 2 races we rated 10 times... It was a nice result.. bring on more of these races :) I can go bad for the next few weeks and still be travelling ok... it was fun

Sportz 17th January 2005 10:03 AM

Thanks and well done xpt. :)

Have you ever had a bet on the 'Any 2' or 'Duet' or can't you take those on your TAB??? I've had a lot of fun with the Any 2 since Unitab brought it in.

xptdriver 17th January 2005 10:22 AM

Gday Sportz,

I was at the track at Caloundra a few weeks ago ( SS Coast) and I think that was the bet I was playing around with, The NSW TAB doesn't have that bet type, they tried something similar in weird sort of way with the spinner.. There was no input from the punter with the spinner bet, unlike the duet..

I love quinelllas they are my favourite multi bet form. I reckon they are always fair value...

system 17th January 2005 01:42 PM

i think the any 2 pays way unders compared to quin

Chrome Prince 17th January 2005 03:40 PM

Personally I like running doubles, they seem to offer the best value with overlay selections.

16.80(irish crusader) x 4.20(youth) RD=$72.80

Could easily have got it in a 5x5 bet, outlay $25.00 return $72.80

Gday Chrome...

I agree with ya there, when I have been in VIC I have taken em and they are a great bet... I usally go 4*4.. Unfortunatley.. we don't have em here,, but that may change... I know people say ya can have all ups, but i like the running dubs better..

But there's 3 divs instead of 1 and they don't have to come 1st and 2nd. They can come 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd. I got an Any 2 yesterday that paid $156. If I had taken a quinella I would have got nothing because the horses finished 1st and 3rd.

Hi!
If you are betting on running doubles it means you are sure your first horse is going to win?! Am I right?
If so then if you would have put $25.00 on your first leg and as it happens it won, you would have got $420.00 back
and no worries about the second selection coming up!
Did you ever consider that???
Cheers!

Shaun 18th January 2005 09:58 PM

Sportz is talking about having 5 selections in the first leg with 5 selections in the second....cost $25 not just an allup on 2 horses

Sportz 18th January 2005 10:26 PM

Hey, wasn't me. It was someone else's idea!

Shaun 18th January 2005 10:36 PM

Sorry about that...I think it was Chrome....any ways just clearing up what they were actualy betting

DR RON 20th January 2005 01:41 PM

Sportz, How about races 5 and 7 at Sandown for this weeks challenge??

Sportz 20th January 2005 04:10 PM

Yep. That's what I was thinking. There's a couple of good races at Rosehill and one at Eagle Farm, but I think those two at Sandown are the races best suited for the challenge this week.

Point allotment method

Sportz,

Just a query on the allotment of points: do you take the actual rating values into account? For instance, Shaun and Ubetido each have 67% in the same top 3 for Sandown R5. If I come in with the same top 3 in the same order, but have them priced at say $3.50, $4.50 and $12 (total 59%) and we get the trifecta, do I get a lower score than they do? As the man doing the work, it's your prerogative; I'm just interested.

Cheers,

H.

Shaun 20th January 2005 11:43 PM

No. The scores are only worked out on the order you rate the horses, not their prices. The basic reason that we get everyone to post prices for their ratings is so that everyone can make a good comparison between different people's ratings. You see, some people work out their ratings in kgs, some in lengths, some in points, so doing it this way is simply the best way of letting people make a comparison between the various sets of ratings. Looks better too. :)

Gday Sportz,

Just out of curiostity, why are these two fairly ordinary Open Handicaps, (Race 7 being restricted) the suitable races, not complaining, just curious as to why you would pick these 2 Races.

xptdriver 21st January 2005 11:18 AM

Gdsay All

here are my ideas for the 2 races... I wont be able to adjust em for scr I will be at work all day...

Race 5 3:30 PM City Of Greater Dandenong Cup Handicap Open
1 $2.4 Red Hannigan
6 $5.7 Twisted Times
3 $9.9 Star Of St. Covet

2 $3.7 Under The Bridge
5 $6.6 Reef Beach
7 $8.8 Shady Brady
3 $8.8 Cool Trent
6 $11.5 Close Encounter

Sportz 21st January 2005 11:36 AM

XPT,

These are the general rules we're going by:
Preferably Handicap races for open or older horses, preferably fields of about 10 -14 and preferably between 1200 & 2000m. They're not hard and fast rules, but that's generally what we'll be rating. Dr Ron also had a preference for Melbourne races when he came up with the idea, so I'll give a slight preference to Melbourne too when choosing the races each week. We will definitely be rating Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide down the track though.

Oh, another thing I like to look for is simplicity for people doing the ratings. For example, some might have thought that we could have chosen the Satellite Stks at Rosehill. One of the reasons I didn't was because there were two horses in the race which were dual acceptors and this could lead to confusion with scratchings etc. Same thing happened last week when I didn't choose R7 in Melbourne. That was because one of the main chances in the race was an emergency. It was duly scratched and I'm sure many would have had it high up in their ratings had we used that race.

DR RON 21st January 2005 11:42 AM

Sportz, should we give thought to letting others choose races in the future???

Whille keeping them within the general framework.

Sportz 21st January 2005 11:53 AM

Well, the fields come out on Thursday each week, so we can certainly have a bit of a discussion on here each Thursday as to what races to pick.

DR RON 21st January 2005 11:56 AM

Race 5

1. Red Hannigan 2.75
5. Generalissimo 7.30
3 Star of St Covet 8.40
4. Sure Bet 8.40
2. Air Cololed 13.90

Race 7

3. Cool Trent 1.85
12. Hassle 6.75
7. Shady Brady 11.10
6. Close Encounter 15.90
9. Uncle Speed 15.90
