You're kidding!!! Wow.

I just had a quick glance at all the tips after the game finished and I guess I didn't look that far back. Anyway, well done Chuck. Not bad for guesswork. ;)

Here was me thinking we may not even get one 8 point bonus all year and it's taken just one game. Well, that's an incentive for the rest of us.

By the way, notice that Chuck didn't originally even pick a margin and only tipped 23 after I reminded him. Hmmm, not sure I should have done that. :D

Sorry guys. I should have had a more thorough look at the tips before getting your hopes up.

Well done fellas! Great start to the long weekend!!

I'm sure I'll get a chance to congratulate you guys (for real) at some other point in time during this comp :)

Jack Daniels 25th March 2005 07:29 AM

If only the doofus that hit the post with a minute and a half on the clock had have slotted it through for a six pointer instead of a behind it could well have been a 24 point margin.

Well done Chuck, thats going to be hard to top this year!!! :D

thanks Sportz!! i guess it was that brilliant database i HAVEN'T got

Sportz 25th March 2005 08:44 AM

Perhaps it was just that you didn't think about it too much. My ratings said Brisbane by a few points, but when I put my tips in, I just had a gut feeling that St Kilda would get over the line in this one. Stupid gut feeling! :D

rabbitz 25th March 2005 10:01 AM

A tea spoon of castor oil is great for the guts
How far Brisbane with black ,brown etc
Riewoldt was a loss for st kilda, but I think Brisbane would have still won by about a goal.
I was at the tab before kickoff and thought about Brisbane 20-39 @ $4.25
but decided to just watch it without any money on.Im in about four tipping comps around the place, took Brisbane in three of them and my mate who im going halves in one of them, picked St kilda
Cheers

When we reach April and we have all our competitors finalised, I'll introduce something new to the Punting comp. Will be an enticement to stay around as long as possible.

Cut the tease Sportz, give us all a hint!

Sportz 25th March 2005 08:41 PM

'Free' $100 bets.

As from the start of April, everyone that's entered the Punter's comp will be entitled to make one $100 bet and it doesn't come off their balance. The same thing will happen on the first of June and then also on the first of August. You can use these 3 free bets whenever you like. You can use them as soon as you get them, or you can save them up.

We'll also be entitled to two more free $100 bets to be placed on the AFL and NRL Grand Finals. So, if we're still alive in the comp at that stage we'll have had 5 free $100 bets.

G'day Sportz,
We get one game live plus a highlights package.
My brother is in Melborne and follows the Western Bulldogs.
I belive the ruckmen run a half marathon every game.
The game is a lot faster than union and league but those games are a lot faster than when i played back in the sixties and seventies.

After week one:

18 Chuck
10 Victim2005
10 moeee
9 Tenacious Spirit
9 Desi
9 marko
9 kiwi
9 Dr Ron
8 BJ
7 Jack Daniels
7 Paddy
7 Goldmember
7 Sportz
7 rabbitz
6 Testarossa

Okay, Chuck's shot to an early lead, but still a LONG way to go.

moeee 28th March 2005 06:21 PM

Well done Chuck.
Thought you actually had 16 points.
Don't want to be a spoilsport, but I'd really like to win this one.
Sportz,I'm sure You paid Chucky the mark for tipping the pies by 25+

The edit is because I thought Chuck got 10 points for the Brisbane game.
Did he actually get 12?

Sportz 28th March 2005 06:35 PM

Yes, 18 points is correct.

Chuck picked up 12 points for correctly tipping Brisbane by 23 (2 for correct team and margin, 2 points for closest to the exact margin and a further 8 points for actually getting the margin spot on). That might seem like a bit much, but it's no easy task to correctly pick an AFL margin to the exact point. As I said, I didn't expect the extra 8 bonus points to go off so soon, but it just shows that it can be done and it's an extra incentive to the rest of us. Also means we've got plenty of time to catch up to Chuck and there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do that Mo.

Chuck 28th March 2005 06:35 PM

beat me...i though it was 3 for winner and margin!

moeee 28th March 2005 06:42 PM

Well themz da rulz!

Sympathies to Jack and Kiwi who had missed the correct margin by a solitary point and ended up with only 2 points.

Come on round 2.

Sportz 28th March 2005 06:44 PM

All matches
Pick the winner but get the margin wrong: 1 point
Pick the winner and get the margin right: 2 points

Match of the week
Be the closest to the exact margin: 2 points
Get the margin exactly right: a further 8 points

Yes, I agree that's certainly unfortunate, but when you think about it, isn't sport like that? One point can make a huge difference. You lost your bet in the Punter's comp by one point and it was the difference between a $117 profit and a $20 loss.

Sportz 28th March 2005 07:08 PM

Ooops, sorry about reminding you of that.
