Gday Chuck... I think he was saying he was in the minus? |
Gday All
I kinda enjoyed that comp yesterday.. kept intertest up through what in fairness was apretty tough old day... I got a bit lucky and picked a couple of winners in the high lighted races.. I assume they are worth double points... Even though the turnout from our forum was not big, the competition was very very good, not too far between any of the players, which makes for a good comp.. Keep it up see if we can encourage some more to join... Very enjoyable As an aside How close was I in the WA Oaks... I thought I was home with lust in the dust :( |
Week one:
POINTS 172 Goldcoaster 169 xptdriver 154 Testarossa 148 mecurial 140 Sportz 116 kiwi WIN P.O.T +19% Goldcoaster +14% Mecurial +10% xptdriver -27% Testarossa -32% Sportz -71% kiwi If anyone else is reading this, why not join in with us and have a go next week? It would be good to have more than just the 6 of us. At least 10 would be nice. :) |
Okay sportz, I'll give it a go.
How about today launceston r7:2 Brown eyed boy (dump the bank on him) Giddeyup |
Hi Xpt and chuck.
If you check out the Daily archive on R&S it is possible to get big POT from all the bets: eg 22.03.05 i got 327% POT from 16 bets two meetings that day, i enter as pembroke. 31.039.05 i got 115% POT from 33 bets. Unfortunately my score this time was MINUS -71%. The neural settings i use are good for provincial and country meetings, they are useless for city meets and my attempts to develope some for the city meets tend to have huge reversals as happened on saturday.:) |

didn't i get a look in? i had 148 pts with a POT of 35% |
Nah. Sick and tired of you winning our comps, so I completely ignored you. :D
Seriously though, I must have just missed your scores. I thought we only had 6 in the comp. :) POINTS 172 Goldcoaster 169 xptdriver 154 Testarossa 148 Chuck 148 mecurial 140 Sportz 116 kiwi WIN P.O.T +35% Chuck +19% Goldcoaster +14% Mecurial +10% xptdriver -27% Testarossa -32% Sportz -71% kiwi |
i personally think POT is more important than some silly point system, don't you Goldcoaster ;)
|
Yep Chucky....all comes back to whats in the pocket.....but points is still good
|
Congratulations to Goldcoaster and xpt first and third in sundays daily challange. You guys sure know how to pick 'em.I hope you did well on the tote as well. Both of you finished with a plus POT also .This is a challange when you need to pick a horse in every race.
Did you know if you go to players' selections you can display your picks? I only got 4 winners today but finished -1% POT on win and 0% place, so as Chuck says it quality selections ultimately that build up the POT and keep you in front at the Tote.:) Chas |

Gday kiwi, thanks for that... had a pretty nice day today.. I don't know that i could survive on backing just the one horse tho... we had some nice winners around the place today that weren't my "on top" raters.. I use the on top horses in the daily challenge, as they produce a few winners.. and score points.. I was happy with Orange Cup winner tho... upwards of 12 bucks is always nice.. POT is important, but the thing about the challenge is the POT is calculated at flat staking... ( I don't wanna start a flat V progressive staking argument here).. Personally I don't bet that way.. I am a bit of a chaser when need be, and for me, thats why the number of winners is important.. But chasing isn't for everyone and can at times get a bit ************ scary... I always draw a line at the end of each day tho.. start afresh tomorrow.. and it works pretty nicely for me .. each to their own I reckon... I always display my picks because they are on display here (being the forum) on most days, so there is little point in me "hiding" them... I like to try and steer as many as possible into a winner or two if I can.. for me thats the name of the game |

This is where I'm going to have problems in this comp and I don't really expect to do all that well. I NEVER back just one horse per race. Always 2 and sometimes 3 and even 4. Whatever it takes to finish in front. I too had that Orange Cup winner today (amazed at the price), but I only had it rated 2nd. I didn't go in the Daily Challenge today, but if I had, I would have picked Juerga instead which finished 2nd. On Saturday, so many of my 2nd selections won it wasn't funny. Proved frustrating in the comp, but I still managed to do okay with real money because I was betting 2 or 3 runners per race. :) |
Another difficult points scoring day on the DC.
However from a strike rate of only 21% I still managed a win POT of 6% again proving it is the value of the winners not the quantity that keeps you in the black. There was a high % of favourites winning and the other standout was the number of TABonline 100 raters that won.:) |

Yeah. Nice. |
Successful day in the Daily Challange for me tuesday, 28% SR 2nd place and a win POT of 103%..
Would have had the $36 winner of the last at Mackay also.No 17 was my original selection and No 15 my next choice but worked a double shift and couldn't get the scratchings.Number i7 was a PPM with a replacement jockey.:) P.S XPT, did not bet today because of work, but when i do i use the Retirement Staking Plan, which is target betting, with moderate success. |
Has everybody got their tips in for today's challenge???
|
Yes Mummy :)
|
Good boy. :D
|
I'm off to another SHOCKING start. :o

Gday Sportz, Yeah I know what ya mean.. I wish they had included NZ racing :) |
I have this terrible problem. I tend to change my original Friday selections on Saturday morning and it never really does me any good. I've now missed out on 3 straight winners in Sydney because of that. :(
|
Well, it's official. I am HOPELESS at this game:
121 points 0% POT |
Quote:
Gday Sportz, dont let it worry ya... you are in good company :) Today 7 Winners 8 Place getters 147 points close enough to square with 3% POT |
I think I take these things far too seriously instead of just treating it as a bit of fun, putting my tips in nice and early and then forgetting about it. I cost myself 4 wins today because I changed my Friday night selections. Oh well, never mind. I actually did quite well on the punt today. Notice some of the winning barriers in Brisbane. And I had a couple of very good priced winners with Classic Karla and Graduated. :)
|
8 Wins - 6 2nds - 3 3rds.....165 pts
i know i came 2nd overall in the comp for POT and SR, but how do i know exactly what it was if i'm trying to look at it via the daily archive??? it just has everyone at -100% |
8 wins 4 seconds 3 thirds 133 Points
Have no idea about % & Positions as it looks like the site is playing up & they are not displayed |

Yeah Chuck, I know you were right up near the top POT wise, but for some reason it seems you have to look at it on the day to get the right POT figure. We'll have to forget about the POT. Bad thing for you as you would have been well in front. We'll just concentrate on the pointscore. Looks like there's not a great interest in this comp anyway, so it might last for just one month. :o |
Hi guys the Archive will update soon.It would pay to check at the end of the day for your POT.
I had another crap day. 5 wins 7 seconds 4 thirds 137 points and from memory minus 32% POT. Perhaps you can update the results monday, the Archive should update by then. You will find saturday is difficult because there are usually 3 or 4 good chances in each race. Any POT around 0% is good and that achieved by Goldcoaster and Chuck is admirable.Golcoaster has been very consistant all week. My neural experiments are an abject failure at the mo' but dioing the neural algorhithms it pays in the long run not to stay with the same settings too long.:) |
Okay, I've decided to call off this comp due to lack of interest and because of difficulty some are having getting their POT figures. I guess this was just another one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time. :o
From the two weeks results we had, I think I can proclaim xptdriver a narrow winner over Chuck on points while Chuck was the winner on P.O.T. Well done guys. Those that do have a go at the Daily Challenge each week can still come on here and say how they went, but we won't bother tallying up scores competitively. |
i thought it was only competitve on Saturdays anyway?
Nevermind...i think the stable challenge is taking up most people's thoughts at the moment BTW is it still called that? Because there seem to be an awful lot changes going on there |
Yeah. :o
We were only using the Daily Challenge on Saturdays, but it's just that it was pretty obvious there wasn't a great deal of interest in it and also we had the problems with people not being able to check their POT etc. |
Is the Daily Challenge not working today or is it just my computer???

Yep it's down Sportz.Used the neural setting Tim 3 JA 3 TA 3 JT3 on friday and came up with a 71% pot 9 wins 9 places 5th place.Did it in 10 minutes while working a double shift.Couldn't hang around in case i was caught. Usually have at least 3 settings for class and distance and it can take up to two hours to do. The result was ironic heh? Could be a good setting for minor meetings!?:) |
Have you done any research with the neurals on what combination seems to work best? How did they go today?
Hey Kiwi, I got an $86 winner yesterday in Townsville R5 with that barrier thing I was talking about a while back. My top pick was number 1 from barrier 1 in a field of 16, so I also had $1 EW on number 4 from the outside barrier. The horse was only $11 pre-post, but it hadn't even had a run before and it was coming from barrier 16, so everyone pretty much ignored it. They actually ran the quinella too which paid $125, but I only had an any2 which paid $30. It's amazing how many times the inside or outside barrier bobs up at good odds in big fields (14+). Even if I don't back them individually, I always like to have them in any2s, quinellas, trifectas at least. Take a look at Melb R6 & 7 and Adel R6 today. I could have possibly even had the $5095 trifecta on Melbourne R7 if I had been willing to outlay more on that race. :( |
Quote:
Do you mean they were the only 4 settings you used? |
Quote:
Yeah, just those Sportz.I will use the same settings today (sunday) the only problem with neurals as they tend to fluctuate in their efficieny and i'm not sure how comparitive friday and sunday racing is. Yesterday I managed 6th place, unusual because i usually stink on the stronger race days. The neurals i used varied according to the strength of the fields and distance. The many upsets probably contributed to my better performance.I don't always go for favourites or high raters. It is POT i am concerned with achieving. My Auzzie punting was 4 bets 4 losses. Backed a NZ winner on looks only yesterday ( it did a good prelim, looked muscled, threw its legs straight, bent it's knees perfectly and was prancing at the barrier all good signs)That paid for my days punting with a 47% profit. Only 3 winners overall from 13 bets but the price about the winners was good enough Well done on that big winner a brilliant return on investment, your barrier system is a beaut and i have won off it before. As you have said you do not need much on to profit big from an outsider. The only problem if you cover all bases ie the Melborne and Adelaide race too it dilutes your overall POT should you miss . In my case i never punt more than 10% of my bank each day and spreading the outlay toowide i could reach that limit too quick. |
I would be HOPELESS at going by looks for horses. I could tell when a horse is overweight or something but that's about it. Apart from that, I must admit that all horses look pretty much alike to me.

Weigh the ************s! just like they do for greyhounds. |
Agree Paddy, weigh 'em, i think they do in Hong Kong.
Heavy track at Sunshine Coast today Sportz so will use WT 5 DIST 3 and DLR 5.This setting has come up with lowest saddlecloth numbers and widest draws too.One was paying over $100!?I can't back it as we do not get the early Auzzie races to bet on NZ. |
This could be a day for the 100 raters, a couple of good results so far!
