Yeah. I had a feeling that you might have been confused by that when I saw your tips, and I was going to say something. I really wish I had now. Sorry about that. :o

This is from page 3 of the thread when we began tipping each week......

Isn't it a bit silly that you can pick three horses from the highest rating race? Just think it would be a better comp if it was one from each race, especially on a 'big' race day i.e CC, CP, MC.

Sportz 17th October 2009 08:41 PM

But it's not just a straight tipping competition. It's a fantasy style competition based on trying to earn as many points as you can while still staying under the salary cap. And picking 3 horses in the Caulfield Cup is no guarantee that you'll do that. After all, several people did choose 3 horses in the cup today and scored absolutely no points at all, whereas they could easily have chosen horses like Typhoon Tracy, Hot Danish or First Command and been pretty much assured of at least getting some points. See, that's the strategy involved. The different points for the horses are all based on their chances of winning each race and also how many points those races are worth. It's up to each person to then work out if those horses are value.

hi sportz..still trying to come to grips with the way the scoring works..with this comp..can you please explain..say with your score..as todays winner..cheers..

Well, yeah, I can understand that confusion if you're only looking at the 3 horses and jockey I chose this week, because I got no points at all from them!

BUT at the start of the comp, I chose Roman Emperor and Vigor as two of my 3 stable stars. And stable stars earn double points. So they got 24 x 2 (48) and 12 x 2 (24) for a total of 72 points.

Your stable stars run for you for the whole duration of the comp and earn double points. Also, the trainer you chose at the start of the comp stays with you for the whole of the comp too. Then each week, we choose another 3 horses and a jockey, and any points they get are added on to what the stable stars and the trainer get.

The stable stars you chose were Master O'Reilly, Mic Mac and Cats Whisker, and your trainer is David Hayes.

Regarding the points available for each race, I post them each week when I list the points for all the horses. For example.......

Caulfield Cup 2400m Open Hcp
(48,24,12,6) (24) (12)

That means:

Winning horse = 48pts, 2nd horse = 24pts, 3rd horse = 12pts, 4th horse = 6pts. Winning trainer = 24pts. Winning jockey = 12pts.

Hope all that helps.
