I once collected $3300-00 for a $12-00 outlay and have been dabbling ever since.
I don't outlay huge amounts on this form of betting hence the continuing frustration at regularly going close but almost always missing out.
Today I had Alto Adige, Erskine Bay and Balla Marie 1st leg, Kildonan Road, Grand Legend and I Do Blue 2nd leg, Danzigs Delight, Pharsna Mugwump and Beetoo 3rd leg into North Alert one out. Cost, $18-00/50c unit.
Another fixation I have is trifecta betting.
If I could show you the list of long priced winners I have had over the years and never collected a cent because of missing the places in correct order, you would have me locked up.( usually outlay $10-00-$20-00 with 2 selections to win and other combinations for 2nd and 3rd.)
I often think I will have to take a break and come back a reformed win only bettor.

Or you could open a NSW betting account and go flexi-betting........ might lower the % of the divy, but it does allow you a little wider scope for the same outlay....... just a thought.... That's what I do and I'm a Victorian (and proud of it !)..... only thing is I have to wait to go fishing at Yarrawonga to make a withdrawal..... but that's a good excuse to go fishing (not that I need one to sit on the Mighty Murray River bank with a can in one hand, races on the radio, form guide on the lap, line in the water....... and no bait on the hook!).

Actually going fishing next week...... 1 December is the re-opening of cod season..... see if I can build the bank a little bit more before then - so my week away doesn't cost me a red cent - love it when the punt funds my lifestyle..... :D

Good Luck fella.

Tenacious Spirit 23rd November 2005 09:24 AM

I just recently opened a NSW online account and it is the best thing i have ever done. The flexi bet option a ripper, you can snare some OK divys for tiny outlays. The first four in the last at sydney on saturday was not hard to get at all and i only had it for 5% and for an 80 dollar return, not bad.

Stix - you don't have to go to NSW to withdraw do you? Can't you just transfer the funsds from your betting account to your bank account?

Cheers,
-TS

I see where you are coming from. I love fishing. Have a boat but the snapper arn't treating me too well this season.

gazman 23rd November 2005 09:52 AM

hey ts

i've never understood the hoo ha about snapper to me they are a mother in law fish, great to catch but crap to eat...i did catch one around 17k last year it was a big mean looking ************(it would have given mike tyson a run for his money)
but i let the big ************ go so he could go out and find many a fair maiden to make more reef busters...we are pretty spoilt were i live,,,dhu fish are our target fish, and a sweeter meat you'll never eat..........cheers.gazman

G'day Stix
I've been waiting patiently for flexi betting to come to Supertab due to the merger with NSW.
I reckon there are some big punters around creaming the exotic pools who do not want flexi betting on Supertab.
This type of betting might make it less lucrative for any type of race fixing that might go on in relation to exotic betting, particularly the quadrella.
Still can't get over the run of that maiden in the last race at sale yesterday at 100/1.
The favourite in a very ordinary race out of the place.
Wonder what the opponents of betfair have to say about that.

Tenacious Spirit 23rd November 2005 10:02 AM

Big snapper i don't like but the pan size ones a nice. I fish primarily for sport anyway. If i wan;t a feed, it is the fish market for me.

Gday gaz...

u say u target dhu fish... Are u a sandgroper? I might be wrong but I always knew dhu fish by our east coast name of pearlies.... But the ones in the west grow far bigger... about 6 kg has been the best i have ever landed.. that would be a baby in the west

As for reddies... now ya talking... where i live , is THE reddie place on the Nth Coast of NSW (IMHO) Like anywhere else, you need to know where to look, but we have a few grounds in very shallow water, close to shore, when the water is warm they are also great mackeral (spanish) grounds as well.. Just float the pillie back in the current with a bit of berley, no or little weight... and hang on... those big red ************s really know how to put on a show, particularly on light gear.. 17 kg is beauty, my best is about 12kg... We usually keep one or two and release the rest.. wrap a nice big reddie in foil, fill him with prawns and oysters and whatever else you wanna stuff him with and. mmmmmmmmmmmmm ..starting to drool like homer :) we usually put em on the barbie with a few beers at the end of the day and they are magnificent... and if you keep bringing a feed home it keeps the girls happy as well... I think I should go load the boat up now.... hangon there is a race somewhere today

gazman 23rd November 2005 10:36 AM

hey x

g,day x,i heard the news the other day about some diks who put somthing on the train line and the spokesman said (and what if a xpt came around the corner at 70ks) and i thought about you ....that would be a seat change at the end of the shift......
i live 400ks north of perth and you only catch wa dhu fish in cape naturaliste its the only place in the world, but apart from that you and i would catch very much the same fish and like you and ts we let most go and just keep enough for a feed, but mind you when you get fish around the 20k mark you dont have to keep many to have good feed in the feezer......
ilove my fishing and my punting i allways check out winin...6 thanks for effort..
have a good all...cheers......gaz.....

w924 23rd November 2005 10:39 AM

Hi Gazman, xpt and co..I used to catch em mainly off Frankston Vic, and didnt chase any other species...used up to 7 rods at a time, conditions permitting...but never caught any near as big as 17kg...sounds like SA or WA territory to me.

I agree not much chop eating the big ones..but fun to catch. A 10kg one can be 70 yrs old... or more .. so no wonder they dont taste all that great LOL

we get em big here in NZ too, but they dont fight anywhere nearly as well, pound for pound, as those Victorian ones do..at least thats what I experienced.

Fishing on the Murray for Murray Cod is something I never got around to doing. I like the baitless hook idea...much less work and nothin to get in the way of studying the form LOL.

What the....

W, my friend, you are missing one of the great joys of life.... now get your '****** up there ASAP.... weather is the key.... best place (in Vic) to go fishing weather wise - all year round is usually perfect.... has been for us (touch wood)

And should it get tooooo hot as it wants to do during Jan & Feb.... we get off the water early and in to the Mulwala Servicemen's Club for cold beverage and a punt :D

You really need to get a Murray Cod on your line.... once you do that, you'll never go back.....

gazman 23rd November 2005 10:59 AM

lol

you know what they say guys====its hard for a man to stop thinking abot his rod..........gazman

A good way to look after your rod is NEVER let another man handle it :)

I believe you Stix.... always loved looking at photos and Murray Cod mounted on various club and pub walls along the Murray...Im told they pull like a bull...Used to lurk up that way in winter, and Corowa mainly..while the weather was crap in Melb. LOL

I'm pleased to hear that there are still murray cod left...

Dont you live at Mackay?

Yeah.

"I think I must be a freak. I've never been fishing once in my entire life!!!"

No..just a truly dedicated punter Sportz..and there's nothin wrong with that.

I last went fishing in FNQ a few months ago and I must say that it doesn't seem to do it for me like it used to... I'd like to see fish stocks increasing dramatically rather than disappearing. I went to the once famous Cooktown jetty to see what it was all about..only problem was I was twenty years too late LOL.

Sportz 23rd November 2005 11:48 AM

To me, it just seems like a rather boring thing to do. It's just never interested me at all. And you could be out there for hours and not catch a thing.

Mackeral, Trevally, emperor you name it.. I caught it there... A great place.. Some days i would jump in the car and go to shute and have a fish in that area.. BUT my all time fav area is Seaforth... I would love to retire there... quiet, easy access to the sea, nice backwater... plenty of sandflies and crocs tho... I think I might load the car up and head there right this minute LOL

Thats the beauty of it... it really doesnt matter if ya catch anything or not... U know how women talk about time for them.. they have like "me time".. fishing is like that for me.. time to think, reflect or just watch the world go by.. Broing it certainly isnt... it is what you make of it

Stix 23rd November 2005 11:59 AM

I only just posted a comment the other day about the dude who does the tips on the TABONLINE site and remarking how badly performed his tips seemed to be...... I also jokingly said that he helps weed out those horses you should not back (i.e. his tips :D ) !!

Modify the theory to be:
  • exclude Radio TAB tips
  • Select next best rated runner
  • cross your fingers, arms, legs.... and gonads..... :D
So I had a nibble at that theory..... blow me down if it didn't salute first of..... but I ain't testing it again! ;)
