Matilda 8th October 2007 05:16 PM

I will give Haradasun another chance as I think he lost to the barrier and wide all the way in Turnbull. Zipping and Douro Valley a goodie for Mel Cup and Caul Cup.

ijuandaQLD 8th October 2007 07:22 PM

tough race and one you could call made up of out of form horses after the turnbull. many looked to have chances excepting Haradasun with his tough trip 3 wide the whole way. it just seems to me superstar horses still win from such runs. Devil Moon showed that this prep she is the real deal and showed that her form last prep in adelaide was just the beginning.

cox plate definitely revolves around haradasun, miss finland and devil moon. el segundo was disappointing but always shows up for this race. he needs to win this one and no F.O.O this year. divine madonna i like to i think she could give this a real shake but i dont like her at moonee.

use the ol eeny meeny miny moe technique of picking the winner

Raw Instinct 9th October 2007 06:21 AM

I was huge on Efficient and to be honest I don't know what to make of his last run supposedly he pulled fairly hard as he never got cover or atleast this is what I heard being said by Steven Arnold, I still feel he is as good if ot better than the horses that contested the Turnbull on the weekend the inside was a complete no go zone by that race on the weekend and he was there all the way, I really wonder whether Haradasun was truly disadvantaged by travelling deep in that race as it would have been better to be out there covering some ground than it would have been to be on the fence look where the 1st few across the line came from all down the outside.

syllabus23 9th October 2007 08:48 AM

I was a bit miffed about Efficients performance too.

I spent fifteen years in merchant ships trading worldwide and am no stranger to vaccinations, they invariably make you feel lousy.I think that we are going to see a raft of odd results in the near future.

go4it 9th October 2007 10:24 AM

I find it hard to fathom the big "push" for Efficcient last weekend. It must have been a street corner tip,as every man and his ****** were barking it.
Steve Moran & Alf Matthews both tipped it as a special.
What rot these highly paid morons dish out to punters in the guise they know what they are talking about.
The Turnbull(on paper at least)looked to be a race of many chances,so how anyone could possibly tip any horse in that race as a special is beyond me.
Bryan Martin said(just before they jumped)"this is the race that shapes the Spring."
God help us then.
IMO Efficcient is not and never will be a 2000mtr horse.
Williams has said all along it is being set for the MC,so IMO that wa s a fitness run,any $ picked up would have been a bonus.
Barrier 1 didn't help,as all jockeys knew(it was R7)that the inside was a no go zone.
Steve Arnold had no chance of getting out from that draw, and if you like it for the Cup,forgive it that run.
Sack it at your own risk.
Marasco is obviously sore, but couldn't win a Cox anyway.
Only has a 400 mtr sprint at best, and to win a Cox you have to sustain an 800 mtr run.
Haradasun to beat Miss F for mine.
Devil Moon likely leader, and whilst she is on fire, she aint no Sunline.
Off pace runners usually win the Cox,throw in El SEgundo(forgive his run too, wasn't that bad)I think the winner will come from those 3.
No fancy odds though, especially if Miss F wins this weekend(as expected.)

crash 9th October 2007 10:54 AM

Hard not to agree about Efficient. The horse comes from behind, the race had no pace and the nag ran accordingly. Wait for longer for sure. Devil Moon's owners are paying the $100k fee to get into the Cox and it only has to run 8th [should be there abouts I reckon] to get most of that back.

The pace will be on in the Cox [a truly run race] and a lot of these 'stars' will be nowhere to be seen in the sprint home. Segundo still looks the goods to me as very few mares ever win the Cox which will be a big ask for Miss F.

Marasco will come near last as he's proving to be useless beyond 1600m!

stugots 9th October 2007 03:27 PM

wouldnt think the turnbull will be much of a guide to anything with the track bias playing havoc with many performances

dont fancy haradasun at mooney vally tho, miss f to give em a spanking

this race is looking more and more open everytime a WFA race is run none of these horses are unbeatable in fact i wouldn't confidently back any of them if i had a horse going anywhere near well enough to be there I would make sure I paid up which I guess is why they are going to pay up for Devil Moon

maverick1993 14th October 2007 10:00 AM

Zipping at 21's the only value i can see...I havent jumped off El Segundo yet and wonder if i can better than the 6.50 on offer at the moment..

ijuandaQLD 14th October 2007 09:35 PM

im confused with miss finland's defeat. she battled to the line well and was obviously never going to win. it looked as thoiugh she just couldnt sprint as quick as maldivian at the end of the race. what oim wondering is what horse has the actual ability to win the plate. on that run she can't. maldivian was many classes above. i think divine madonna has improved with every run and at this stage she would be my tip yet ive mentioned before i dont like her at moonee. i agree with the call on sipping he does look the value and although still decent odds madonna was odds too before yesterdays win. honestly i think Niconero is the horse that is getting set at the right time. but if anyone can confidently tip a horse to run a place you r full of it

Raw Instinct 15th October 2007 06:00 AM

I am happy enough to be on Efficient e/w at $14 he probably won't start at that cox plate day anyway I can't pick anything in the race now anyway so this will be my only bet in the race I feel

go4it 15th October 2007 08:04 AM

I tend to agree with Weekend Husslers trainer, horses that win a Cox Plate are specifically set for the race, not as an afterthought because they are going well.
Williams has said all along that Efficcient was aimed at the MC,not sure about Zipping.
Hayes also said after the weekend defeat that he was dissappointed, but to remember she is being trained to run 2 miles.
You would think that Devil Moon and/or Maldivian(if it runs)will set a good tempo, which could set it up for Haradasun or El Segundo.
Unless Marasco turns things around,I can't see him winning.
I,m going for Haradasun to beat El Segundo.
Roughie
Blue Monday@$151
Good luck whichever way you go.

sportzfan 16th October 2007 07:11 PM

Anyone give the kiwi Magic Cape a chance in the Cox? If a wet track I'll be including.

WAOS 18th October 2007 07:13 AM

Magic Cape

Only lightly raced..best distance 1600 but has been placed longer.. excels in the wet as you've suggested..tough ask this class

westman 18th October 2007 01:27 PM

Doubt if the 11/2 will still be available for Maldivian after the CC this Sat

Northern 18th October 2007 02:38 PM

I like El Segundo for the cox plate im going to load up big time on the current place price of $2.28 it loves the valley i cant see it not finishing in the top 3?

maverick1993 18th October 2007 04:13 PM

I agree Northern....i just got 8's for El Segundo for the win and i'm already on Zipping at the 21's...both like the course and have a great chance in this..

StaggerLee 18th October 2007 08:19 PM

i got on way back..,,regardless of how he goes this sat is a great chance in this..

diogenes 19th October 2007 08:55 PM

I reckon he has a better chance in the Cox, number of runs backing up might beat him tho. Maldivian.

Both looked good in track gallops yesterday..,,,Efficient looked soild aswell..

Raw Instinct 21st October 2007 11:27 AM

Sounds like Efficient will run in the blinkers for the 1st time in the Cox Plate not sure if this is a good or a bad thing only time will tell he did work well in them yesterday certainly kept a nice straight line which was what they were looking for.

jefff_12 23rd October 2007 10:34 AM

Barrier draw this morning...
1. El Segundo Colin Little Luke Nolen 7
2. Lad Of The Manor Simon Stout Greg Childs 9
3. Niconero David Hayes Brad Rawiller 10
4. Marasco Fred Kersley Michael Rodd 11
5. Zipping Graeme Rogerson Danny Nikolic 12
6. Haradasun Tony Vasil Damien Oliver 4
7. Efficient Graeme Rogerson Steven Arnold 5
8. Wonderful World Bart Cummings Nash Rawiller 6
9. Magic Cape Shauen Ritchie Blake Shinn 13
10. Divine Madonna Mark Kavanagh 2
11. Miss Finland David Hayes Craig Williams 1
12. Devil Moon Mark Kavanagh Hugh Bowman 3
13. Eskimo Queen Mike Moroney Craig Newitt 8

I think that Devil Moon will get a good run here. Can't see what will apply the pressure here. Although i'm not too sure weather there will be pressure as it is a Cox Plate as there always is, or will this not be the case with a weaker field lacking visiting horses?

Haradasun will be a good run in behind the speed.

And I think Efficient will put in a much better run this time. He is a zabeel with the blinkers going on and has been working really well during the week.

I need some rose coloured glasses for this one and they are hard to find!

Haradasun is doing better than El Segundo [needs blinkers].

Horse Whisperer 23rd October 2007 05:12 PM

really like Haradasun in this, seems to be going pretty good.

Ill give rough chances to Wonderful World, Niconero and Lad of the Manor.

Raw Instinct 23rd October 2007 05:24 PM

Haradasun, Devil Moon and Wonderful World will probably go forward Zipping wouldn't shock me either if it goes forward in this as I believe it has around his distance range in the past. This will not be a hard run race but the last 1000-800 is usally intense enough to give everything a chance to run on, Efficient might suffer from this but I still feel he is good enough to win this race and drew the perfect barrier for him gives him the chance to pull to the outside without being cluttered up behind horses I just hope Arnold is patient cause it is amazing how many times horses get run down in this race when they go for home to soon

Chuck 23rd October 2007 05:43 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6It079ecPU

great clip, has just about all the Cox Plates in the 70s and 80s... some absolute classics in there....surround, kingston town, dulcify, bonecrusher, red anchor etc.

mjr 23rd October 2007 06:10 PM

I too like Haradasun, but I think his biggest problem will be Oliver he doesnt seem to be steering to well at the moment, just hope he gets back to his brilliant best on saturday.
