PARLAY QUADDY
Today they're all at Riccarton in NZ. Very ordinary horses going around there today. It's a matter of those with fewest convictions. R2 no3 Night Life R3 no1 Counter Punch R4 no3 Nana R5 no 1 Striding |

Great spectacle today with five jumping races. Good to see that some people who know what they're talking about have taken the lead here. Well meaning amateurs with more say than their knowledge warranted caused many of the problems they naively thought they were fixing in the preceding season.

Have to put these up early. I feel confident. Don't know if this will help the horses though. Watch them closely, you will see them trying their hearts out. They are noble and stoic animals. I like the idea of removing the last jump on the second round. The horses are very tired then. I'd like to see the last 600 metres or so of these races without an obstacle. The last steeple at Oamaru is a horrific jump, even for a horse that isn't tired. Would like to see it removed on the last lap. Don't know if there's any research on which jump claims most horses (i.e. last, 2nd last etc).

Terrible results yesterday. Magical Sunday was, ironically, the only placegetter. Hope I can turn things around today. Small is beautiful when taking these bets. I usually just put on 50c win and $1 place for the parlay which costs $46.50. If individual selections are a good price I'll usually have a bit extra on them win only. Jumps showing nice returns but disastrous yesterday. Still, if you're going to have a disaster a small one is the best kind.

Good result yesterday. Place quaddy paid $203 for $31 outlay. Only unplaced runner, Peninsula, led over last fence and finished 4th. Had he hung on for 3rd it would have been a major payday. Two good winners ($9 and $7) with Pactus and Yamanaura running second. Again, just missed a good pay out but made an acceptable one.

Yeah Crash, I just have a small amount on them and dream about them all getting up. Hasn't happened yet but I'm working on it. Still wearing the cloth cap, braces and cardigan at this stage. As a gilded youth I remember in the early editions of Guiness Book Of Records seeing pictures of old codgers (like myself now) smiling grimly after having won millions of pounds for a penny. I'd like to be able to take on an 8 leg parlay for 1cent but the smallest amount you can put on is 50c (I've tried) and this turns into a big outlay thanks to the laws of mathematics.

Using the local library's computer today. I wonder if it makes any difference. Anyway, this one works (probably because it's not Vista). OK, enough of this hateful invective. Time to get down to the business at hand.
