Know how you feel Sandgroper - hope the track is OK, but there is some rain predicted for the weekend.
Like you (from what you have posted) I seldom invest when tracks are no good and subsequently potential profit is also reduced. Been betting mainly on eastern states races of late, doing OK but do much better on the locals. |
Don't forget Free At Last in the Craiglee

I'll be including in my bets Sandgroper.
Boulder Cup Selections in order: Chapman had My Thornbird way too far back last start. Ridden a bit closer and should get the bickies. Priceless Matt has come to hand very quickly. Winning form's good form, hard to beat. Again winning form's good form for Blevvo. Might be getting back to his best. Lightly raced Ca Cao will be suited by the extra distance. |

I can see Matilda Bay taking on Double Jewel for the lead. With small field might suit Mr Callahan. |
All starting in the O'GRADY LEFROY
Track FAST  But rain predicted  _________________ All the best from the West Sandgroper  [ This Message was edited by: Sandgroper on 2004-09-04 10:15 ] |
According to this mornings West Australian, Northerly to start in the welter next Sat here, before heading east.

Yeh good work demister jay.
Mercedario did manage a place. |
Cheers Paddy and Geez. Didn't think My Thornbird would pay that well. Got the tri (yes included Mercedario Geez, thanks for the input) missed the quartet (a carryover).
Just checked Sandgroper's overview and he did give it a mention - rats! Had right idea re O'Grady Lefroy Geez, did make me stop and rethink, thanks. |

Being a big softy really, I like to give credit where it's due, so to demister jay, and Paddy, VERY WELL DONE! wish I'd taken the hints!!

Not far off the mark Geez. Last on turn, ran on well for 4th beaten 1.5lens at 20/1. Matilda Bay leading Double Jewel, both finishing unplaced. _________________ May the luck of the Irish be with you! [ This Message was edited by: Paddy on 2004-09-05 09:55 ] |

Not far off the mark Paddy. Stood to make a nice profit if it ran a place (************ 4th nothing worse)

WATC handicapper has said that Northerly could expect no less than 64kg for next Saturday's welter. The last horse to carry that sort of weight (and win) was Detonator who carried 65kg to victory in a Belmont welter way back in 1978. Subsequent to his trial run Northerly has had a hard hit at Belmont. Reported Fred pleased with the gallop. |

Should be a great race Sandgroper with speed to burn with Eastern Standard and Ellicorsam in the race and both drawn wide.

Sure should be MyHatMyCoat.

Not done the form yet but has to be huge ask for Northerly to win, which I wouldn't think is Fred's intention. Might be good value race though, with no doubt sentimental money going onto the champ.
|
Yeah it really depends if he is going around to win or just for the run. either way if he is 9/2 I wont be able to help myself having a little nibble.

Big chance Northerly - even 3/4 fit and lumping 12.5kgs over the limit. Doesn't put up a great show, wouldn't bother going east at this point in time.

Agree with umrum would back only if EW odds or better - with some savers! |
Was just thinking the hannans may have been a good race for Northerly to kick off in. Maybe the weight on a hard track would be too much.
|
The trip to and from Kal probably not in best interest, especially if immediately followed by a trip over east.
|
Great to see a WA thread, keep up the good work guys. Just moved over from Sydney a couple of months ago. Love a punt, just a hobby, have a lot of fun. Over time most likely losing but that’s entertainment! So intend to tune-in and provide my input here and there (if you don’t mind). From what I seen on this thread and the whopper over the page, I’m sure I’ll get plenty of food for thought. Cheers.

Northerly has a problem with winning races in WA these days, especially when good horses are getting a smeg load less weight, expect a solid run midfield somewhere, best finish probably 5th or 6th But thats not to say this little black duck wont be willing him past the post in pole position of course  [ This Message was edited by: Sovsy on 2004-09-08 18:01 ] |
Great news – Fred Kersley has just been inducted into the Australian Harness Racing Hall of Fame. Congrats Fred!

Good luck to Fred (and his family), certainly has put a lot into harness racing over many years.
Apparently they got him over to Melbourne on the pretence someone else was being inducted & he was just a guest for the ‘pretend’ induction. |
