Group A
Doomben R 7 St Basil $20 win

Group B
Doomben R2 Hit The Road $10 win

Sportz 9th April 2005 01:06 PM

Well done with Hit The Road, Kiwi.

Sportz 9th April 2005 02:37 PM

....and other good winning tips today have been Zingam, Zariban and Candy Vale.

Extremely well done with Candy Vale, Mr Ed. I must admit I probably wouldn't have even considered it if not for your tip.

Paddy 9th April 2005 02:53 PM

Yes, very nice results so far kiwi & Mr ed :)

Sportz 9th April 2005 03:25 PM

Well, Mr Ed and Chuck are on a roll.

Rudolph 9th April 2005 03:31 PM

When you mentioned Candy Vale Mr ED, had a look and thought it was worth a bit EW, thinking i would get around $15 in a good race. Ended up only paying $6.30 on S-TAB and it won in convincing style, Great Tip!

Mr ed 9th April 2005 03:48 PM

Cheers Fellas, Yeh your not wrong $21 in Herald $26 in the WP, but he was exceptional when had no luck on debut and went straight out for a spell. Come back with a devastating win, and judging by his win today, he looks future group class, nice big horse too.

Mr ed 9th April 2005 03:55 PM

He's a she

sorree

Raw Instinct 9th April 2005 04:15 PM

Sportz I was going to annoy you and ask to change Merlot Now to $20 for the win but thought better of it :( ofcourse it would backfire.

Sportz 9th April 2005 04:31 PM

Has anybody got a placing today? I've been thinking that perhaps I should change that rule.

With this comp we are after all trying to pick future winners, not future placegetters, so does anyone have any complaints with cancelling out all the each way bets today and making them all win bets instead??? I've noticed that there's been quite a few each way bets today which have won, so I think those people would be agreeable.

What does everyone think?

Raw Instinct 9th April 2005 04:34 PM

lol ofcourse I am up for it but don't take what I said the wrong way though I was only mucking around.

Mr ed 9th April 2005 04:38 PM

i'll always be going win so sounds good here.

Sportz 9th April 2005 05:45 PM

Yes, I think that's what we'll do. It will make things much simpler.

All group A horses are $20 Win and all Group B horses are $10 Win.

Mr ed 9th April 2005 05:52 PM

Not that it worries me, but is that retrospective Sportz, or from here on in?

Sportz 9th April 2005 06:52 PM

Retrospective Mr Ed. I've worked out today's results and it didn't really hurt anyone. In fact it helped most.

Still one race in Perth to go, but I can tell you that you are in front overall, while Chuck is in front on a P.O.T basis.

Well done guys on the first week. Some great winners tipped and every single person got at least one winner. Overall, all 11 people's bets added together produced a profit of $270 or 28.1%. Not bad. Could have been even more if some of us had done a bit better though. :o

Chuck 10th April 2005 09:08 AM

it would have been $122 more in the bank if Zingham hadn't firmed from $11 into $4.80 !!!

he was a certainty in my book after his last run...missing the start and screaming home...

it was a bit risky only having 3 horses running today...especially seeeing Gallic breakdown (or near to it), but i guess it payed off...i just hope none of mine aren't going into spells!!!

Thanks Sportz, well done to all.If I could have included Calveen it would have been a better result.

However i backed both in NZ and also collected on the Calveen trifecta.:)

Sportz 10th April 2005 09:54 AM

Yeah, sorry about that, but I thought I'd better draw the line somewhere for this first attempt at our comp. So I decided to keep it to Aust metro races on Saturdays and Public holidays. I assume Calveen will be heading to Adelaide or Brisbane???

Yeah, well I assume Gallic will probably be spelled now. How bad was it? I had him picked out for some of the staying races in Adelaide. At least that makes the decision of which horses to replace next time easier.

Some people had as many as 10 or 11 of their stable runners going around this week. Hard to see more than a few of those backing up next week, so they might find it a bit tough to add to their tally. Will be interesting to see how many selections we have next week. It was easy this week by comparison because at least we had the fields to go by. There's a couple of horses in my stable that I'm worried about because I thought they might have been in this week and they weren't. Hope they aren't injured or out for a spell.

I guess O'Sullivan is targetting the Stradbroke. The horse could be anything it has a relaxed galloping style and while the others are gut busting just lopes along.

Starcraft 11th April 2005 08:31 AM

Who the hell is Finito? And are there any General Nediym horses racing?

Sportz 11th April 2005 06:13 PM

You can mark all of these down for this week:

Cianara
Dane Shakira
Landloper
Portland Singa
Raid The Royals
Reannag
Sorenstam
Willy Leica

They were all horses I was strongly considering for my stable but eventually I left them out. I see they're all nominated for this Saturday. You watch 'em get up now. Especially Raid The Royals which is one of my current favourites, but I left it out because I thought it might have gone out for a spell. :(

Chuck 11th April 2005 06:29 PM

GO THE SINGA...in my group A

great last start run

Sportz 11th April 2005 06:36 PM

I know, but as I said, I could have picked 20+ horses and that was one that I eventually decided to leave out. Probably a big mistake. It's nominated for the same race as Dane Shakira.

Mr ed 12th April 2005 12:04 AM

Have been very impressed with Raid the Royals sports, he really motors home. Just thought we might have missed the boat with him for this comp, as his odds will no longer be flash, and he'll start to creep up in the weights. My tip for the straight 6 will be Mcarthy's Bar if he gets a run, will almost certainly be on the minimum and was a monster finish first up for nearly a year, i wish i took him instead of Gallic.

Also thought Sonic Royal's next run will be in town after three absolute huge runs @ Cranbourne (the videos need to be seen to be believed) again i thought first trip to town so perhaps some odds. I have no doubt he can win in town, but he's instead been nominated for a poxy C4 @ Cranbourne Thursday, which he looks an absolute standout in. He has been winning them Showcase races so actually dropping in class for demoralising them last start @ ridiculous overs. He's getting up in weight so might get better then even money for him, in which case he's a must have.

Hopefully Sassbee runs this weekend Sportz, he's a real talent and can't wait to see him back @ the races.

Sportz 12th April 2005 06:41 AM

Yes, I was going to include Sonic Royal too, but I looked at all the nominations last week and saw he was down for that Cranbourne race. That's the only reason I left him out. He's won all of his last 3 races at Cranbourne, so they obviously like running him there.

This Stable comp idea is a bit experimental. It probably would have been better to include all races on any day of the week and allow people to update their stable weekly. I just thought it would be a bit easier the way I've done it and we'll play it out this way until the end. It will be a real challenge.

For the next comp we do though, I'll probably use the following rules:
20 horses
Update weekly
Any TAB races

Chuck 12th April 2005 08:49 AM

i'm not sure about that...it you update it weekly then isn't it basically a tipping comp? Just pick the horses you think will win on Saturday! Maybe 2 trades weekly but no more than that...And isn't 20 horses a bit too much...agreed that there were a lot more horses we could've put in isn't, but that is part of the game!

Sportz 12th April 2005 09:06 AM

Yeah, it would only be 1 or 2 changes each week. Of the 20 horses, 10 of them would be horses that you MUST keep in your stable all the way through no matter what, while you could replace 1 or 2 of your other 10 horses each week. Maybe not 20 horses, perhaps 16 or something like that.

Anyway, don't worry about that now. We're not using those rules on the current stable.

Chuck 12th April 2005 09:43 AM

BTW

are we calculating the final rankings on POT or Winnings? For example who would be winning this week if we have a different person on top of each ladder?

Sportz 12th April 2005 09:50 AM

It's calculated on overall winnings (sorry Chuck :)), but I include the POT table there just as a reference.

After all, it would be possible for somebody to get a huge POT by having just a handful of runs and getting one or two good results from those. This comp is about selecting as many future winners as possible, and preferably at reasonably good odds, so overall winnings it is.

Chuck 12th April 2005 10:06 AM

oh well...2nd's better than 7th eh Sportz!

Sportz 12th April 2005 10:24 AM

Yeah. :o

Mr ed 12th April 2005 10:28 AM

I think 12 horses is plenty and maybe just be able to change 2 a week would be good so then we could add our specials. I also like the idea about any tab races, because as we all know getting a 4/1 winner in the country is exactly the same as getting a 4/1 winner in the Melbourne Cup, and Victoria country meetings is where i do best.

Would suit me! One of my stable is a possible starter at Kalgoorlie on Sunday!!

Great  I'm already one down :(

Sportz 12th April 2005 11:52 AM

OH, WHAT THE HECK! Geez, I'm easily persuaded! Okay guys, here's what I'll do.

We haven't had a horse run around yet at a midweek or non metropolitan meeting as far as I know, so no reason why we can't change that rule. I agree about the fact that a winner in the bush is just as much a winner as those at City tracks. (disagree with that comment about the Melbourne Cup though Ed)

Also, I agree that it would probably be better if we could make changes every single week instead of every 3 weeks. That way, you can quickly replace horses that are injured or going out for a spell etc. Also, as we will be making changes every week, it's not necessary to have a Group A & B as we'd just be able to change them every single week anyway. So for pure simplicity, I think from now on we'll just have 12 runners in our stable, no Group A & B. I'm sorry, but I'll also adjust our results from Saturday accordingly.

So here are the new rules. Everyone that's in this comp please read them:

Everybody to have 12 horses in their stable.

During the period of the comp, you'll be having hypothetical $10 win bets on all of your stable horses whenever they start at an Australian meeting covered by Unitab.

Each Friday, you'll be able to replace up to 2 of your stable runners with new selections. If you have a stable runner racing on Friday, you must wait until after they've run. Otherwise you can make your changes any time on Friday up until the cutoff time of midnight.

It is up to you to post all your stable runners on here when they are down to race. Probably a good idea to use something like the 'Racenet Blackbook' so you don't miss any of the selections, especially as we are now counting races at out of town tracks. http://www.racenet.com.au/blackbook.asp

There. Those rules are MUCH simpler. Why didn't I just do it like that in the first place??? Anyway, as not everyone is likely to read this before tomorrow, can we have volunteers to go through all the stable lists and check for runners. I'll have a look but I might miss one. I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be any running today, but there might be a couple tomorrow. I know that Kylikwong is down to run and she's in a couple of stables. Also Mr Ed mentioned Sonic Royal which might run on Thursday.

Okay, that's it. No more rule changing from now on..... :o

Paddy 12th April 2005 11:55 AM
