Okay, well it's time to choose our horses. As I said, I'm going to do it a little differently this time. Here's how it's going to work. We're all going to rank horses in 5 different categories (3YO Fillies, 3YO C&G, 4YO H&G, 5YO+ H&G, 4YO+ Mares). Then when we've all done that, it's going to come down to the luck of the draw as to which horses we receive, through a draft situation.

I'm going to organise the draw so that different people have top picks in each category. That way, one person doesn't have a huge advantage by getting all of the top horses. Of course, only 5 people (1 in each category) are going to get to have the first picks, but depending on which horses we choose, there will almost certainly be more than than just those 5 people who get their first choice. I guarantee that I will try to even things out, so that there is a good spread of talent among the stables.

Here's how it will work. Let's say that the draft says that you have the first pick of the 3YO Fillies category. We'll simply look at your first choice in that category and it's yours. But let's say the draft says you have the 6th pick in the 3YO C&G category. It is unlikely, but still possible that you could get your first choice. If none of the other 5 people to go ahead of you have chosen that horse already, then it's yours. Otherwise we just go down your list in order until we find a horse that nobody has chosen yet.

I haven't worked out the draft order yet. Once we've all ranked the horses, THEN I will draw the numbers out of a hat, and we'll see which order we go in. People who've been part of my comps before should realise by now that I'm completely fair when it comes to this sort of thing and there'll certainly be no funny business with the draw. You have my guarantee on that.

Okay, here are the lists of horses. What you have to do is pick your top 15 choices in each category and rank them in order of preference from 1 to 15. It is VERY unlikely that you will end up being stuck with your 15th ranked horse in any category. You'll probably only need 10 at the very most, but seeing as it is theoretically possible, I ask you to rank them from 1-15.

There are probably some horses which I haven't listed here that some of you will want to choose. If that's the case, then you certainly can. Just make sure that you include the horse in the right age and sex category (remembering that they became a year older on Wednesday) and also make sure that you spell the horse's name correctly, so I can find it and I can include it in the competition blackbook. I have only included the very top overseas horses on the list, but if you want to, you can select others. It would be a risk though considering there's no certainty they'll even come out here.

When you send your lists, you don't have to go to the trouble of typing out the whole names if you don't want to. You can simply post the horse's number and an abbreviation or initials. Something like:

Group E
1. 31 MF
2. 30 MA
3. 20 GE

But make sure you don't make any mistakes.

Another important point.

Post the various groups in order of your preference of first choices. In other words, if you want to have a greater chance of getting first pick in Group B, the 3YO C&G category, then put those selections first, and if your next preference is the Mares category, Group E, then put that second, and so on. I will then organise the draw so that you have more chance of getting the first pick in your category of choice.

But I don't expect that to be the case. So as long as you've all sent your selections by early next week, that'll be okay. Then we'll start the comp on August 18.

Sportz can I make a suggestion regarding how to work the draft order out you can use this Web Dice program and use say 2 100 sided dice the 1st number being the rolled number the 2nd being a tiebreaker get them all emaled to yourself and also one sent to there own emal address

Okay, thanks for that. Sounds a bit confusing but I'll have a look at it.

I have just sent a dummy roll through to you so you can see what I mean basically you get 2 dice 1 roll and they are 100 sided die with nothing dropped or subtracted you could say the lowest number picks 1st the highest picks last you could do it for each category. you could count the 1st roll whether it is the highest or lowest that is the main score and the 2nd score can basically get used as a tie breaker I can sort it all myself for you if you like

Anyway, don't worry. I'll have a look at it. Should be able to get my head around it.

But in any case, people have to send in their selections first. And that'll probably take a week.
