This is probably going to be the longest thread in the last four years at least.
Well done Paddy!.Our Olympic hero.

horsewithnoname 17th August 2004 10:13 AM

Between Paddy and the 'sportz team' you could be right moeee

moeee 17th August 2004 10:30 AM

I lived in WA for 12 months, and I'm positive that it's something in the water.
Come out of the shower feeling dirtier than when you went in can't be a good sign.

rarebitz 17th August 2004 10:37 AM

No probs with the water up here. Best in Oz!!

moeee 17th August 2004 10:47 AM

And the best fishing as well.Forgot that WA is a mighty big place.
Apologies bro.
Let me make it Perth and Fremantle water tastes ********.

Well done Thorpey. I haven't seen the race yet, but judging by the splits, Van Den Hoogenband certainly wasn't far enough ahead coming to the last 50. Looks like Ian swam a great race and had things pretty much under control the whole way.

Another minor medal to Liesel Jones. Unfortunately that's becoming a regular thing. She just doesn't seem to be able to swim her best when it comes to finals.

Maybe Leisel could move to Port Adelaide after the games.

Leisel Jones back to her old tricks, missing the start like that she should be renamed MANFRED

Well, I managed to get $3.75 and it WAS incredible value, but I would have much preferred an Australian Gold Medal though. Can't believe the poor tactical swim of Thorpe. He had 200m to make up just over a body length or so and he tried to do it all in the first 50. He went out so fast, he had nothing left for the final 50, otherwise I'm sure he would have finished over the top of Keller. Looks like he'll end up with only 2 gold medals and Phelps could get 6.

Yep, unfortunately spot on Paddy

sportznut 18th August 2004 07:44 AM

Current medal Tally:

1 CHN 10 6 2 18
2 USA 6 7 6 19
3 AUS 6 3 5 14
4 JPN 6 2 1 9
5 UKR 3 1 1 5
6 RUS 2 5 5 12

Didn't think it would take long. We are still ahead of Russia though... for now.

Paddy 18th August 2004 07:45 AM

Yeah spot on. ************! Cheers RJ
There’s a time to gloat & a time to mope.

Here's the medal tally that REALLY matters:

AUSTRALIA 6 3 5 14
GT. BRITAIN 0 1 1 2

So far, so good.

unbelieveable
how did great britain get a silver and a bronze!!!!
Theyll be partying all night
cheers

sportznut 18th August 2004 08:33 AM

Their Silver was in the Synchronised Diving and it was very controversial, because their last dive definitely shouldn't have scored enough to keep them above the Australian guys who finished with the bronze. What's worse is that they're actually coached by former Australian diver Steve Foley. TRAITOR!!!

Stephen Parry got the bronze behind Phelps in the 200 butterfly.

I expect the poms' medal tally to certainly increase once the Cycling and Athletics gets into full swing.

WOMENS 4X200 FREESTYLE RELAY FINAL (PRE HEATS prices)

AUSTRALIA $2.25
GREAT BRITAIN $3.35
USA $3.50
GERMANY $10.00
CHINA $18.00
SPAIN $23.00
FRANCE $35.00
ROMANIA $51.00
SWEDEN $61.00

Could be some value here with only the USA & CHINA with multiple starters in the previously completed 200M WOMENS FREESTYLE SEMI FINALS.

sportznut 18th August 2004 08:49 AM

Could be a chance for the brits here, but Melanie Marshall will have to improve a LOT on her individual 200 performance. I think the U.S are probably over the odds again.

Australia's chances depend a lot on whether McKenzie can improve on her individual swim and whether the 200 butterfly takes too much out of Petria.

Just curious about how much you preferred Thorpe to have reached the wall first. So how much did you invest at the $3.75?
And just which swimming trials did you compete at again to have such in depth knowledge our Thorpedo lacks?

sportznut 18th August 2004 10:00 AM

It wasn't a HUGE bet Mo. I had $20 on them, but I certainly wanted the Aussies to win. I simply backed the Americans because I thought it was just about a 50/50 race, so $3.75 was too good to pass up. $75 does ease the pain though.

I'm embarassed to say it, but believe it or not, I can't even swim!!! So, I guess that makes me just as bad as those people who've never ridden a horse in their life, but continually criticise the jockeys.

I'm simply going on past experience. I have watched Thorpe swim MANY times, and normally he would have just gradually eaten into the American's lead and conserved his energy to overtake him in the last 50 metres. I'm sure if he could have the race over, that's what he would do.
