yeah, actually a new method this week. Look at the team list and see how many names i can recognize!!! :D Geelong 1-24 (3) St. Kilda 1-24 Collingwood 1-24 Fremantle 1-24 Sydney 1-24 Port Adelaide 1-24 Essendon 25+ Bulldogs 1-24 BTW If i tipped Geelong by 3, and the Demons win by 1, do i count as neing 4 away? |
Quote:
West Coast 25+ rabbitz ! & I tipped Freo :( |
Quote:
Well, you ARE 4 away, but you CAN'T get the 2 bonus points for getting closest to the correct margin. The 2 bonus points goes to the tipster who is closest out of all those that picked the winning team. If nobody picked the winning team, nobody gets the 2 extra points. |
GEELONG 1-24
KANGAROOS 1-24 CARLTON 25 + * W/COAST 1-24 BRISBANE 25 + * PORT ADEL 25+ ESSENDON 25 + W/BULLDOGS 25 + Sportz, just 1 question, did you pick the margins, 1-24 & 25+, instead of 1-39 & 40+ to make it harder or easier ? |
To make it more even and more of a challenge. If we had 1-39 & 40+, people would simply pick 1-39 most of the time, whereas a margin of 24 points makes you think a bit more.
It's also a better comparison to the Union & League margin of 1-12 & 13+ points. If you look at the odds, in most games 40+ is quite a bit longer in the betting than 1-39 points, whereas in League & Union, the two margins are reasonably close together in the betting. |
OK, thanks sportz, fair enough, sportodds has those margins and the tab has the other margins, but we cant use the tab on our bets, just wondered, thats all.
cheers |
I've wondered for a long time why they use 39 points instead of 24 points or even 30 points which seem to make more sense to me.
By the way, so far in two rounds of our AFL tipping comp, it's 10-6 in favour of the 1-24 margin. Had we been using 1-39 points, it would have been 13-3. So you see it just makes it a bit more even. |

Well done BJ. You get the 2 bonus points. Weren't too far away from hitting the jackpot! :) |

Just thought I'd put them up nice and early, so you've got plenty of time to think about 'em Paddy. :D |
It "LOOKS" an easy round next week, wonder if it will turn out that way
|
Gee would have been a good round to bet. Most of the favourites were massively underquoted. The only team that were a fair price were Port, and look at what happened to them. Looks like some good value again next week too...
I'll put my tips up later in the week.. Have to decide if I have the heart to go against my Sainters.... |
The way they're playing at the moment, perhaps you should decide if you have the guts to go WITH them? Pretty disappointing. Reiwoldt can't make that much difference surely.
|
It's a long way to go and we all get caught up in early season form. I remember a couple of years ago both the cats and magpies won there first 5 games and didn't even make the 8.
Believe it or not I reckon there's come great signs for the saints. They are playing crap footy and still either winning or just losing. Hammil is in great form and when Riewoldt, Kossie and Gehrig get full fitness and are up and running who will teams match up on him then The saints are the real deal and will still go mighty close this year and yes Riewloldt does make that much difference. It's like asking was Carey important when North was at the height of there powers. I can guarantee this, North have no hope of winning the flag. They are playing 100% to there potential and most of the big guns are firing at about 75% ie Saints, Power and Brisbane. On what ive seen this year and knowing the room for potential these 3 clubs have they look like the only premiership hopes for mine. I still reckon the Dees will be suss when these teams become fully fit. West Coast have no gun forwards bar Matera and the Cats may be not quite as good as I first thought. The Swans would probly have a flukers hope if Roos actually coached like he did in the last quarter and give them there head to actually play free flowing footy. They are great to watch when they are up and running like that but why he is so defensive i'll never know. |
Hope you're right in your assessment. Just doesn't look all that great at the moment for a couple of the big teams.

Round 4
Kangaroos 1-24 Brisbane 25+ West Coast 1-24 Essendon 1-24 Port Adelaide 1-24 Sydney 25+ Fremantle 1-24 Melbourne 1-24 (24) Getting in early, double shifts all week:) |

It has been said that those that needed to know, added up all the winning margins within a certain period and divided by the number of games and came up with 40. |
Quote:
Remember that you put your tips in early last week and you went from bottom of the ladder to the top! |
Quote:
You come up trumps with much of your reasoning last year Mugsy, but your credibility is certainly on the line here. Let the Saints go my good man. They peaked last year!.And still weren't good enough! |
Quote:
Never easy for yours truly  |
YES i'll post my tips early again .Dont want to ponder this round too much .
round 4 Kangas 25+ Brissy 25+ West C 25+ Geelong 1-24 Port 25+ Sydney 1-24 Freo 1-24 Melb 25+ (26) |

Yeah, I thought it would be something like that. Well, I still don't really agree with it. I think some REALLY huge margins in some games tend to skew the results. For example, Rd 3 was one of the closest rounds you could possibly imagine. 5 games were decided by 8 points or less, yet the overall average margin was 20.3 points. So I can see that in a normal round with not so many close finishes, the average probably would be close to 40. I still think that a margin of 24 or 30 points offers a better balance between 'under' & 'over'. I know we've only had 24 games this year so not a huge amount to go on, but it's 19-5 in favour of under 39.5 as opposed to over 39.5. |

Not a bad idea marko, not pondering too long. |
will Hird play this weekend?
Sheedy says no :( Hird says yes :)
Time will tell! |

I think they are starting to find a bit of form. If it was just Riewoldt, I would not be that concerned, I believe Kositchtzke could fill the gaps. But he is gone also, and Gehrigs fitness basically puts him at about 70% effectiveness. Leaving a forward line with few targets. Our focal point will be Hamill who would be struggling to be 6 foot ? However, I think the midfield will now be more likely to fire a few more shots towards goal themselves. They are all capable, and I think the best way to beat Melbourne is to make their midfielders accountable, and put them in a defensive mindset. Also, Moloney out will help. With that in mind, here are my tips...... Round 4 Kangaroos (1-24) Brisbane (25+) West Coast (25+) Geelong (1-24) Port Adelaide (25+) Sydney (1-24) Richmond (1-24) St Kilda (1-24) 19 And Moeee, remember, the Saints played that way last year having to rove to the opposition. Now they have a capable ruckman, although he is no Spider Everitt, but capable and quite mobile all the same. Don't write them off just yet. |
