I don't get this. What do you mean?

You can have banker quinellas (6 - 2,5,11,15) and (6 - 1,4,10,11) but that will be $4 each x 5 units = $20. You have to include another horse to take it up to $25.

I assume this was meant to be race 3. In any case, it was a loser.

Chuck 1st September 2007 12:35 PM

yeah it was

i'm having a shocker, its front runers all day. got a little back with mixxer ew in the last.

i'm pretty confident about Rubiscent and Haddle McDaddle in the next though

Yep, made a mistake on the price Sportz. A unit is $6 for a 5 horse quin with 1 rover not $5, so its 4 units on each quin. @ $24 each [4x6=24]

I thought Haddle would at least come second, if not 1st. Rubiscent was a big risk horse today [way unders] after the luckiest win I've ever seen last start. Great day for the Bookies so far and a total farce for punters.

I'm sorry crash, but you've still got me totally confused. How can you have a roving banker in a quinella?

In a quinella, your "banker" can already finish either 1st or 2nd. And then one of your other selections simply has to fill the other place in the first 2. So, if you have one horse as a banker from 4 others, then surely that costs just $4, not $6.

Sportz 1st September 2007 02:27 PM

Good win with Scenic Blast, Usurper. Who knows? Maybe you can come from the clouds and finish in the top two.

5 #7 place -> 6 #6 place -> 8 #7 place -> 9 #12 place

Closing balance: $0.

That was supposed to be Caulfield race 8 #6, not race 6, #6. If it's too late to change, I understand.

Race 9 I mean!!! GAwd. Sorry Im all over the shop today.

Sportz 1st September 2007 02:33 PM

Yes it is. I'm sorry. :o

I can certainly understand what you mean, but no, you can't change it now that race 6 has been run. Bad luck. In future, try to put the name of the horse as well as the number.

Usurper 1st September 2007 02:35 PM

Yeah my bad, lazy, not a problem, cheers :)

Well it's the first time I've ever had a roving banker quin. in my life, so whatever you reckon. I thought the cost was $5 or $6[?]. If the cost is $4 then that's 6 units for $24? I don't think I can have 6.25 units for $25 can I ?

The NZ quin won.

Sportz 1st September 2007 03:01 PM

Well nobody else would have had one either crash, because as I said, it doesn't exist. When you have a banker in a quinella, it already IS a "rover" in as much as it can finish either 1st or 2nd. Then one of your other selections has to fill the other place in the top 2. And yes, it does cost $4 for 1 unit, so you can have 6 units on the 2 quinellas today.

I'm being very fair here, because this could cost me a spot in the top 2.

crash 1st September 2007 03:13 PM

Well I'll be fair too Sports. Like I said those 2 quins were my first 2 RB quins but since I put them up I've had another one at my local TAB. It reads:

RACE 3 - 12.35
QIN 6RB,1,4,10,11 [that exactly what's on the ticket]. It cost me $6 for 1 unit.

Apart from that, I read a 2 page article on Roving banker quins. last night in an Australian glossy punting mag. If they don't exist what are they talking about and what about the ticket? A Banker quin?

As it was discribed to me in the mag. No. 6 would be my RB [must come 1st. or 2nd.] and any of the other 4 for either 1st or 2nd.

Anyway your the boss, I'll go by whatever decision you make Sportz.

1st too, doh! I'll have to make my move earlier next month.

Sportz 1st September 2007 03:24 PM

Well, I don't know what bet type that is that you've got, but it's not available on Unitab. On Unitab, they're just simply "banker" quinellas. You can't have such a thing as a "Roving Banker" quinella. As far as I can see, it's exactly the same thing though, so I don't know why you should have to pay $6 for it. It's $4 on Unitab and that's what I'll put down for you, so 6 units on each quinella.

crash 1st September 2007 03:28 PM

Ok, RB quin in Vic., Banker quin in NSW [cheaper too]. Same thing different name it seems.

crash,
That quin you have in the post is a BOX quin.

4 selections which is 3+ 2+1 =$6.

Sportz 1st September 2007 04:31 PM

Okay, I've still got a race left, but it won't make any difference to the order, so here's the leaderboard:

Bank / Tipster / Amount spent

$1056.85 . Syllabus23
$747.50 . Sportz

$727.80 . crash
$638.05 . feather
$630.00 . Usurper
$300.00 . Wise One
$245.00 . Goldcoaster
$226.30 . Maverick1993
$217.80 . Spartacus
$161.50 . Raw Instinct
$54.00 . Rabbitz
$21.00 . Chuck
----------
$680.80 . Horse Whisperer . ($480.00)
$610.00 . Panther . ($450.00)
$505.50 . Magivor . ($326.50)
$427.50 . wesmip1 . ($250.00)
$75.00 . Longshot . ($425.00)

So Syllabus23 and myself are the two tipsters to progress to the finals from this month. Bad luck to crash and bad luck to Usurper as well.

We will start off with a new $500 bank and a new 4 week comp next week.

Nah, I don't think so. I'm not sure what it is that he's got, but I don't think that's it.

I checked at the TAB. The quin was A 'Roving Banker' Quin [QIN 6RB,1,4,10,11]. Know in NSW as a Banker Quin.[horse No.6 can come 1st. or 2nd.]

Sportz 1st September 2007 04:51 PM

Yeah, I can understand the name of it, crash. The bit I can't understand is the cost. It makes no sense that it costs $6 in Victoria when basically the same bet under a different name is $4 up here.

crash 1st September 2007 05:01 PM

I don't understand the cost difference either Sportz but I'll find out. Meanwhile to put to bed whether the Roving Banker Quin exists:

If you go to the Stab racing site: http://www.tab.com.au/Racing/Default.aspx?State=1
and click on a race, then click on bet type Quin, one of the option boxes you can then tick is 'Roving Banker'.

You don't need money in an account to do the above [only if you wanted to process the bet].

Finally on th Quin subject Sportz. I think you might be wrong there about Roving Banker Quins not being available on Unitab. PeterPan put this on through his Unitab account and it's called a Roving Banker Quin:

01/09/2007 19:06 01/09/2007 PERH 3 1r2,3,4,5 (ROVING BANKER) Quinella 1 $4.00

I'm yet to find out why the same bet on Stab costs $6 though!

Sportz 2nd September 2007 08:00 AM

Well, I don't want to keep going on about this. But I use the Unitab website and I can guarantee you that it is simply called a banker quinella on there. I just put a bet on to make sure I was correct and I was.

In the info section of the website, they mention 4 different Quinellas - The standard Quinella, Box Quinella, Banker Quinella and Multiple Quinella. And here's what they say about the Banker Quinella:

BANKER QUINELLA
If you feel there's a 'sure thing' in a race that looks certain to win or at worst run second, then a Banker Quinella is a perfect type of bet. Your 'Banker' would be the 'sure thing' and you can group it with any number of other runners in that race. Providing your 'Banker' runs first or second and any one of your other selections finishes first or second with your 'Banker', you win the Quinella. The more 'other' selections you take the more combinations you get. For example, if you took a 'Banker' with six (6) other runners you would get six (6) combinations. This bet would cost $A6 for a $A1 bet and $A3 for a 50c bet.

In any case, no matter what it's called, for the rest of this comp, the bets you made yesterday would cost $4, not $6.

crash 2nd September 2007 09:12 AM

Well I've just found out that PeterPan's bet was through a Stab account, not Unitab.

Strange why the local TAB ticket I bought cost me $6! I'll have to look into it and find out why the difference in cost.
