Boy am I interested now  |
Are we on track for 13 gold medals (that was the mark set by betfair "over /under")I didnt have a bet but thought over 13 wasnt a bad bet
|
Read and noted somewhere that some expert predicted the USA to win 93 medals, followed by Russia (83), China (57) Germany (55) and Australia (54).
He predicted the same 5 countries to win the gold medal race with a slight change in ordering, USA (37), Russia (29), China (27), Australia (14), and Germany (13). Interestingly he left out Japan, who are going pretty well at the moment. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: 4theboyz on 2004-08-20 07:08 ] |
Think I read same source 4theboyz.
A couple of professors from memory. Made a copy of their predictions. Predicted Japan would get 6 gold only! |
We should go close to that 13 golds. Depends on our Cyclists and Rowers. There's possibly 2 or 3 more golds in the swimming. Can't really see us winning any in athletics though, so the 2nd week certainly won't be as good for us as the first!
Jodie Henry is my absolute favourite, so although I thought she was brilliant value at $3.50 pre-games, I didn't dare back her for fear of jinxing her. Bad luck for Liesel last night. It was a good performance and she went so close. [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-20 10:18 ] |
Who do you reckon they should choose for the relay, Liesel Jones or Brooke Hanson. Brooke finished .01 secs ahead of Liesel in the individual race, but Liesel is the world record holder and I'm sure she'll be so damn determined to put in a big one. Then again, Brooke's faster starts might be more suited to relays. Don't know about that one. Anyway, we'll probably be about 1 to 1.5 seconds behind the US after the backstroke, so it'll be up to Petria Thomas and either Brooke or Liesel to give Jodie a chance to mow them down in the last 100. I reckon the world record will probably go in that event. I just hope that it's us.

Gday sportznut. I hope they pick Liesel. I reckon she shut up a few of her critics with that gutsy swim last nite. I was gutted 4 her, but, I reckon she's probly actually a better swimmer than Brooke and I reckon she will swim a bottler in the relay

have to be liesel

Womens 3km Indiv Pursuit(Cycling Track) -Gold Medal
Sarah Ulmer (NZL)- $1.28 Katie MacTier (AUS) - $3.40 Katie MacTier broke Sarah Ulmer's old world record in her first hit-out leading up to the final, only to see her time subsequently bettered twice by Sarah Ulmer. SILVER at least to Katie. If GOLD goes to NZ I certainly won't begrudge it. Good luck to both girls. |
Unfortunately, I think Sarah Ulmer is a pretty good thing, but I hope Katie proves me wrong.
Speaking of good things, what about the U.S Softball team? Before tonight, they'd scored something like 41 runs to nothing, and they are currently thrashing us for the 2nd time in the tournament (and we're the 2nd or 3rd best team in the world) [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-08-22 21:13 ] |
Yes. Not a bad looker sportznut.
Imagine winner will set a new world record to boot  |
Yeah, you're right Paddy, but I wasn't actually commenting on her looks. I meant that I thought Sarah Ulmer was a pretty good thing to win the Gold medal.

Don't know what odds the greek girl will be after the semi but she looks a great bet.
Easily the best time and did it easy. |
Thought Jana and Yuliya Pechenkina a lot up the sleeve in their semi. Fani Halkia most impressive in her semi. Likely tri?
