Ruzaini Supien
 

Apprentice jockey Ruzaini Supien has had 6 months added to a ban by WA stewards after he admitted (last Friday) to drug offences. Has since flown back to Singapore. WA stewards have advised they will reduce the ban by 2 months if Supien undergoes drug counselling and rehabilitation whilst back home.

Had a nice win on the grey :) Understand the Winter Championship is next on the agenda.

The ease of the win surprised me a bit. Doesn't mind soft tracks (as confirmed Sat) so the winter championship would suit.

The size of the div [pleasantly] surprised me, even if it was a few points shorter on the WA Tab!

It's a shame! Has more than average ability, as a jockey!

The Railway Stakes, worth $750,000 last year, will be one of 3 prestigious Group 1 races which will comprise the inaugural running of the Australian Mile Triple Challenge — the $1m Emirates Stakes at Flemington on November 10, the Railway Stakes at Ascot on November 24 and the $700,000 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on March 1, 2008.

This year’s Railway Stakes will carry a record prize money of $1 million. There will be $4 million in stakes and bonuses, including a $250,000 bonus for any horse which is placed in all 3 races

The conditions of the Railway will be changed from a handicap with no top weight limit to a quality handicap with a maximum of 60kg, the same conditions as the Emirates Stakes.

The minimum for the Railway will remain at 52kg, but 3YOs will be able to carry 50kg, a clause that was removed from the conditions of the race several years ago.

Disqualified for 10 years
 

As a result of finding electrical devices at a South Hedland (WA) training complex on Saturday, 19 May 2007, local trackwork Rider Mr C. Bellette pleaded guilty to the following three offences under ARR.175(hh):

..being in possession of a hand-held electrical apparatus
..being in possession of a Heriot Agvet cattle prodder
..using an electrical apparatus on a horse in a training gallop at Broome in 2005

RWWA Stewards have disqualified Mr Bellette for a total of 10 years!

Stewards were satisfied that Mr Bellette had acted alone in committing these offences.
