AVENIDA MADERO
21/1 into 11/1 for the Fruit N Veg!

I was actually surprised he did so well yesterday considering his very hard first-up run! Was a promising type when last in work (albeit some time back) so good to see him returning to some form. |
Ascot Wednesday
A few racing wednesday that have been mentioned on this thread past few weeks. Namely Zoometric, Creole Spice, Hello Doctor, Dee Picked, Tip The Angel, Metal Dancer, Buttonhole and Young Paddy.
Hopefully not missed anything. |
Mapperholic
Promising effort by Mapperholic in the Lee Steere on Saturday. Having just his 2nd start since April 2004 ran on very well to finish 5th. Mapperholic you might remember finished 3rd in the 2003 Railway Stakes and looks on track for another tilt same race next month.
|
AVENIDA MADERO
Won’t be rushing out to back AVENIDA MADERO in the Railway or in particular the Fruit N Veg. One start over the 1600 unplaced. Gone no further. Admit she looks to be stronger this time around but history does suggest you need to be able to run a good 1800 to win the Railway and as for the Fruit N Veg 1800 imo will be beyond her if she starts.

Been hanging out for Buttonhole to have her next start. The 1600 on Wed should suit ideally. |
Lark Hill trials
The speedy Flying Johnson ran the fastest time over 900m to win the last heat of the Lark Hill trials today. However the 2nd placegetter Criminal Intent was the one that caught the eye, not extended to finish 1 length behind the winner. Criminal Intent was having his first hit-out since finishing unplaced at Flemington back in July. Prior to that ran 2nd in a C6 at Werribee and has also won at Sandown.
|
Adrian Lee, ditto well done , gotta admit I have backed Avenido several times but thought I'd go with my gut which was Covertly, I was wrong you were VERY right well done!

Trackside
Trackside’s effort to run 4th behind Blessed Sue Sat I thought was full of merit. Settled near the rear and wide before the turn finished the race off strongly. Be surprised if he doesn’t win very shortly.
|
Hartleys Dream
Also full of merit Hartleys Dream performance in the Lee Steere. Got back further than they would of planned after a tardy start. Flew home to run 3rd (on protest). The son of Bletchley Park has a fantastic win strike rate of 50% (11 wins / 22 starts) so you would expect him to notch up at least a couple of wins over the next month or two.
|
Chenille Prince
And finally, full of merit was the run of Chenille Prince in the last. Missed the kick and came from well back to be beaten just 2lens. Previous start good thing beaten behind Danny Blue York Stakes. Due for a change of luck shortly.
|
If you reckon Chenille Prince’s run was full of merit then you would have to concede that Black Tom’s run was as good if not better. Gave Chenille Prince a start and a beating! 2nd last on the turn beaten only 1.75L. Was the run of the race outside the winner (Master Minx) for mine. Agree Chenille Prince also a good run.
|
MAPPERHOLIC
Notice that MAPPERHOLIC is listed as a late entry for the Railway (earlier post). Not surprised given his run on Saturday but obviously connections were not that confident at the start of this campaign! Good vibes! ;)
|
Read an article the other day re the breeding of some of the guineas runners and was a little surprised to learn that Manjar and Snacking are both bred to be stayers and that they should go better at distances further than 1600m. Snacking in particular should be suited by the 2400 as her sire and dam-sire have both sired WA Derby winners. With this in mind (and the considerable amount of interference suffered by a number of runners in the guineas) I’ve dismissed their seemingly disappointing runs on Saturday and look forward to their performances over more ground.

Black Tom WAS the run of the race, last at Ascot Saturday addari! Double up next time!! ;) |
Ellicorsam
Not surprising but now official, Ellicorsam is a definite non-starter for the 2005 Railway Stakes.
