Well The Fighting Tigress broke the track record (1:08:52) today set by the great Asian Beau back in 1979! Don't mind admitting it, brought tears to my eyes. The Fighting Tigress ran 1:08:29!! WA has a new CHAMPION!

Cereiza and Moodometer (1st), Lord Plantagenet (2nd), Maximum Force (3rd), Nostoc and College Dean (5th), Great Beau (6th) and Norfolk Song (7th) make up the grey brigade at Albany today.

Not in the least detracting from Miss Andretti's performance (it was SUPER!) but considering that Star Laser equalled the old record it suggests to me that the new (look and feel) track had a lot to do in setting this new record and there should be others to come over the summer carnival.

Albany today

I like a few today, all EW.

(7) ENTREGA in the 2nd. This lightly raced 4YO mare is long overdue her first win and gets her chance today. All the better for for 3 runs since a spell.

(10) TITCHERMAN in the 4th. To be ridden by the fish. Although racing well above his class today was backed and beaten in a stong class 6 at Pinjarra Park last start. Had excuses that day and where there's smoke..!

(2) CENTURY METAL in the 5th. Racing a little above class today but win at only start was impressive and should be well ridden by young jockette Leanne Howlett once again.

Well it was a slow track at Albany which was something I didn’t originally factor for.
ENTREGA was well fancied but failed to place, TITCHERMAN also well fancied and won in good style, CENTURY METAL was scratched.

grey matter wrap-up

Not a bad day for the greys yesterday at Albany with a couple of winners including the nicely priced Nostoc - Cereiza (unpl), Moodometer (1st), Lord Plantagenet (unpl), Maximum Force (unpl), Nostoc (1st $23.80 / $5.00), College Dean (unpl), Great Beau (2nd) and Norfolk Song (scr).

Apparently they had a fair bit of wind assistance as well at Ascot Saturday.

1:08:52 is still a great time regardless. A trip east (perhaps spring next) would be on my longer range plan for Miss Andretti!

On the subject of new records, Rescuer ran a new race record of 1:27:73 to win the R.J. Peters which was a tidy effort. The old race record was held by Sister Patricia of 1:28:08 set back in 1999. Sister Patricia after setting that record went on to run 2nd in the Railway. The track record stands at 1:27:40 set by Gilt Patten way back in 1973.

Perth Cup

From a Perth Cup perspective there were a few good runs on Saturday.

Our Grey Halo of course. Interesting to note that from only 2 starts over the 2400 (the furthest he's gone) he's won both.

Dundally who ran 2nd to Our Grey Halo Saturday. Just the 1 start over 2400, the Group III Queens Cup back in July 04 which he won, coming from well back in the field.

Universal Warrior who showed a return to form Saturday. Ran 6th in the 2005 Cup and although well beaten that day was running on strongly at the business end.

And Free At Last who was beaten just 0.5lens in the 2005 Cup and ran 4th the previous year.

Kevin Forrester

Word is that Kevin Forrester will keep the ride aboard the Trevor Andrews trained Rescuer in the Railway despite being found guilty of careless riding on Saturday. Kevin has lodged a request with stewards to defer the commencement of his suspension to allow him to ride Rescuer on Saturday. If approved Kevin will have to forgo the ride on Miss Andretti in the Colonel Reeves. What a predicament!
