First-up over 2000M after a 4+ months break? Just proves (as I'm sure a lot of fellow forumites are already aware) that nothing beats race fitness, no matter how much better you really are, especially if racing first-up over a bit of ground. Not one of Paul's better rides, and was surprised he got as close as he did. IMO this race had the makings of a 'no-bet' race. A lot of punters got burnt.

Hi partypooper. Selections posted are based on my own ratings (very much still in tune-up mode) filtered by my own personal assessment (or ‘gut feeling’ as many on this forum put it). In the case of Local Legend it was actually my 2nd rated horse, but my gut feeling let me down big time. Thought he wouldn’t run out the distance, based on his last race performance, where stepping up in distance, he was ridden off the pace but showed no zest last bit, so I left him out of my posted selections. I did however have a little saver on him in the end as after all he was my 2nd rated and was representing overs.

Watsonnek, re Local Legend, yes I see your point, though my observation was badly hampered last run, and I got the impression "too late, never mind next time" and as finished "just" within the magic 3.5 lenghts from the winner, it was still on. But like you I relax some of those "rules" sometimes if I think there waere excuses etc etc. anyway , keep it up!!
