Notice in race 2 today CRIMINAL INTENT (no. 2) is starting. This horse previously mentioned on this thread per medium of a good recent trial performance. Has a good first-up record - 4 2-0-1 ;)

..and there's a couple of other earstern staters having their first start in WA today...Race 1 No. 1 He's Smokin - also has a good first-up record: 4 3-0-0 and did win a recent barrier trial way down south at Albany...and Race 6 No. 8 Go For Gold - hasn't raced since Nov 04 but does have a reasonable first-up record: 6 2-1-0

Around the place but not much joy at Ascot yesterday - Hooksy (4th), Royal Cobra (3rd), Jarnot (4th) and Miss Pavlinovich (unplaced).

Ball Lee, Cereiza and Moondance Magic (3rd), Nostoc, Silver Ambush and Norfolk Song (5th), Stormy Pleasure and College Dean (7th) make up the grey brigade at Albany tomorrow.

Perth Cup
 

The best runs on the weekend from a Perth Cup perspective were obviously put in by Black Tom who had to overcome crowding to win the Tattersall's Cup running a smart 34.41 for the last 600 AND Free At Last who ran on very strongly to run 4th in the Fruit N Veg. Not surprisingly they’re $3.60 and $2.90 respectively in the current fixed odds market.

Didn't mind the run of Our Grey Halo in same race Black Tom..only beat 1 len by that horse gave him weight and was finishing the race off at the business end as well as BT...last I looked was showing 12/1 fixed..

According to my sources HUGS DANCER is an almost certain visitor west for the Perth Cup. Hugs Dancer has been working well at Flemington in recent weeks and trained David Hayes has publicly stated that he only has to maintain his form and a start was on the agenda.

I know the Perth Cup is traditionally one of the weaker 3200M cups but I think it is very obvious from previous attempts at the distance that Hugs Dancer is NOT a genuine stayer! I’d be staying home!!

Still maintain the Perth Cup should be run closer to the Melbourne Cup. More chance of eastern state / overseas visitation and cooler weather, just two good reasons to change the date. Perhaps make it the start of the 'summer' carnival.

Gee it will have to be an extra special effort to get home tomorrow firstup after some 11 months layoff carrying 5kg over the limit against some pretty handy types like Metallurgy, Paris Raider and Rooftop Grosve. Good luck, I think you'll need it :)

Trip west for Expunge for the Perth Cup highly unlikely following his poor performance to run 7th when a heavily backed favourite at Sandown last Saturday. IMO was going to be a waste of time anyway ;)

Expunge's 3rd at Sandown 2400 in Nov was a top effort, best performance to-date imo, don't know what happened the weekend, most disapointing!!
