What a shocking lack of class for a listed race!! 3 x maidens, 1 x class1, 3 x class2, 1 x class3 and 1 x open class? (2 wins)!!

sportzfan 22nd December 2005 10:14 PM

Not much of a betting racing either!

Modem 22nd December 2005 10:22 PM

Ascot Saturday

Yeah, apart from a couple of races, the meet looks more like a mid-weeker! :(

sportzfan 22nd December 2005 10:27 PM

Trying not to be too negative Modem but I can see only 1 race that's anything like a 'weekend' race!?

Mav3000 22nd December 2005 10:29 PM

Beat me to the punch sportzfan ;)

Mav3000 22nd December 2005 10:33 PM

Just had a look at Mondays meeting, better than Saturdays but still lacking.

sportzfan 22nd December 2005 10:35 PM

I think you'll find similar other states this time of year, not just WA ;)

sportzfan 22nd December 2005 10:48 PM

Just take for example the poor quality fields at Canterbury tonight! I got to the stage of just backing the roughies for a bit of an interest... nil return until the last 2 then managed No Name For A Lady ($19.10 & $3.50) and Ghaliah ($8.80 place) and Kadazan in the last $132.00 & $24.30  The interesting thing was that the last winner's best performance (based on my ratings) was over same course & distance back on 10 Aug 05 against much stronger class, so would have been a value bet under normal circumstances!

Mav3000 22nd December 2005 11:00 PM

Good luck to you sportzfan :) I've not invested on a night meeting for about 18 months, doesn't grab me and wasn't doing too well anyway, don't know why?!

Modem 22nd December 2005 11:04 PM

Been talk in the past re night meets in Perth. Given the generally very hot summer and WA's outdoors passion could be winner if it ever happens.

Mav3000 22nd December 2005 11:06 PM

Very happy to come out of 'no-night-meeting' retirement if that ever happens :)

sportzfan 22nd December 2005 11:09 PM

Hmmmm not sure...would make it a LONG betting day for those in the east!!

Modem 22nd December 2005 11:14 PM

LOL Can't see it would be any worse for easterners than the 3 hour time difference we already 'enjoy' in the west during summer..our betting day often starts at 9.30am and goes right through to the last WA dog or trot race for the night!

sportzfan 22nd December 2005 11:17 PM

Yeah! guess you're right Modem lol

Biggest price winner I've ever had was 80/1! would have been nice to share your success with Kadazan sportzfan, but was not to be. Always tomorrow!

AdrianLee 23rd December 2005 12:30 AM

Sorry I havent read all the posts, but can someone fill me in as to why Saturday's meeting starts at 10:45am and finishes at 3:20pm?

Is there a race course in the eastern states called Ascot? LOL!

Anyway, shame about the lack of class in each field, doesn't give me too much confident to go out and buy TAB-Form unless it also contains Mondays racing too.

Have we ever had a meeting that started around 10:45am/morning?

I can not really think of it.

puntersteve 23rd December 2005 05:09 AM

Xmas eve - guess early starts eg. DOOMBEN 11.35 SANDOWN 12.10 to allow all concerned an early mark to enjoy ;) Assume TAB outlets would also close a littler earlier as well.

Today from Ascot comes a very exciting historical race card. Not very often do we have Ascot racing starting at 10:45am, the middle of the morning! That is right, Ascot races will be starting from 10:45am and the last event kicks off at 3:20pm.

Stay tune as we see how much money we can bankroll in order to purchase christmas presents for our family and friends.

I’m sticking with the early favourite NARRNOO. Very impressive winner at first start who spoilt chance next start with slow getaway. That preceded his last start top effort in the Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic.
