Post Your Blackbookers Here

Hi All,

not sure if anyone is interested in a thread like this, but given that we quite often forget other peoples tips / selections or the close 4th of 5th place getters that are tipped, why not place them here with a comment after the days racing. I rarely have the time to review taped races, and can sometimes miss the good mid-week runs. Would be great reference and could take a lot of the workload off those of us who keep individual records, and quick to key into a online blackbook such as the racenet one. We are then alerted by email

Other than thoroughbreds, I especially like to black book on the dogs. I dont know how many times I've backed a dog at $8, it gets checked while charging home, and then wins next start at $30. Of course it will be racing at Dapto race 12 at 11pm and I havent seen it!.

So if your willing to tip, or see a great run, post it here!

For today, I liked:

Ideal Ben:

Should have been in the top two today, but a wet track would be preferred next start also

Matthew's Pick:

Huge run giving the second last runner 5 lengths at start! Beaten a head in the end.

Nobragnow:

won easily as it should of. Was a big top rater and could continue to go through its grades.

Nowayhosai:

made up ground to finish just behind the placegetters. Likely to be double figure odds again next time.

Look forward to seeing some others

maverick1993 22nd August 2005 07:26 PM

Deranged.
travelled well in the run 2 back on the fence..Jockey tried to get alittle wider but was boxed in ..Jock had no choice but to stay along the rail in unsuitable ground..still in it along way down the straight ..only beaten a length..fantastic run..
Fuji Kid.
Alot like the above comment..battled hard along the rail ..finished close up..
only 3rd run back and will be fitter..maybe over alittle more ground will suit nicely..

I thought alot of runs of the winners are a bit flatering ..winners came down the middle or wider all day ..anyone caught to close to the fence had the disadvantage..

Mr ed 22nd August 2005 11:52 PM

Same race as Matthews Pick,

Boys of Summer sweated up badly before the race and was trapped 3 deep the whole way, he was jumping 2 classes and had a big weight, he did a great job to finish less then a length away 3rd, after looking gone around turn.

Vatana - Finished strongly on slow track (Bendigo 11/8 1600m)

Superficial - Needs a touch longer than last start (Taree 9/8 1004m)

Stepping - Flew home along inside, got too far back (E/Farm 13/8 1000m)

Desi 24th August 2005 08:36 AM

Red Hannigan (1300m Belmont) strong run for 4th on slow track carrying 58kgs in second run up. Will be better for it and prefers a good track and loves the 1300m distance.

Desi 24th August 2005 08:51 AM

Hey Stix, noticed Vatana is racing today in R7 Bendigo...how do you think it will go...I actually have Bodecker blackbooked 'good run Cl 1 1600m slow track' same race as Vatana...S Vella has the ride on Bodecker this time around.

Stix 24th August 2005 09:23 AM

Confident

Hi Desi

I think Vatana is a very good chance today although he does come up against some horse who have been running up in class and drop back down to the CL1 today (Sacred Secret, Boys Of Summer), but with Captain Zero scratched, she comes in nicley especially when had 65.5 in the Jumpers Weight race last start and has 53.5 today.....

Don't recall Bodeckers run, was too busy watchin Vatana.

Hope to get at least 10's..... Good luck Desi

Stix

Stix 24th August 2005 04:15 PM

Desi...

Vantana was a good run, disappointed she couldn't finish it off.

Adios Dapper - Was drawn very wide and after getting back Flew home @ $36. (had him 1x3 = happy ;^)

Tenacious Spirit 25th August 2005 02:12 PM

Huge win..but alot of the fancies were on the inside bashing each other..i had Rautias warrior and all he did was play smash up derby with them..
still a very strong win..

SNICKS ..missed the start by a mile..had the nerve to actually finish close up..
with him being declared a nonrunner he'll run around short next time..

QUAD QUEEN .. didn't get a crack at them..Fighting Fund with the very experienced Bowman on board kept her boxed in...purton had heaps of horse that he just couldnt use...given a riding lesson by Mr Bowman one of the best around..

Binding showed up boldly on the weekend.....had to see anyone beating Dizelle over a longer distance as well after last week - except perhaps the Diva

Pay to follow chilli smoo in adelaide. Getting fitter every run and was powering home yesterday. Win not far away.

saratoga samchaz 28th August 2005 12:39 PM

A Stix Blackbooker running tonight eh? Just in time as I need to get a little of my Saratoga stake bake tonight. Not a terrible day but some thirds that could have been 2nds to put me over the top. ANd Sportz likes as well. Lets get 'em boys!!!!! DEREGULATE and HEADTURNER scare me a bit in there but a three horse box will fix that fear!

AIRSTREAM made a nice run and looked sure to finish first but you could see the legs begin to get weary or maybe HEADTURNER is really that good. It was a great exacta over here paying $60. I would like to see Airstream catch a speed favoring surface next time against some under priced closers. Thanks Stix. I wish I had ridden out Sportz' tips last night but they closed after the Airstream race.

Blackbook today

29 August 2005
SUPERFICIAL PORTMACQUARIE R5 No.1 (1212m)
Racing over extra distance today which will suit beautifully, drawn much better in the 4 and finished 2nd to The Rub, which is good form for this. Hope to get 3's

brave chief 29th August 2005 06:59 PM

For the Americans that visit this site, I spotted a horse at Retama Park 20/08 by the name of Mr Question. It ran 2nd beaten 3 lengths, but a nice gap to 3rd. It raced 3 wide with no cover from gate 12, and the jockey seemed to have the hand brakes on down the stretch.

saratoga samchaz 30th August 2005 12:05 AM

Thanks Brave Chief. I'll put Mr. Questin in my stable mail. Speaking of which, I have about five black bookers in today at Saratoga and getting short on funds so do yourself a favor and play 'em. That's when they win. 3rd Saratoga: #5 Swap Fliparoo should get nice stalking trip and good price
#1 Halo Humor will get bet with Bailey and Asmussen
#4 Saoirse Cat-Mott Storm Bird 2 yo fillie will battle with Halo (why couldn't they have all been entered in different races?

5th Saratoga: #1 ILLUSTRIOUS KISS/ #1A June the tiger

6th Sar: #1 Speedy Deedy-trained by Graham Motion(Better Talk Now+ Film Maker and ridden by his main man Ramon Dominguez)
#5 Sacre Via-closed a ton to get 2nd in first turf try at 30-1 winning 6 horse photo for place and setting up a $430 exacta. Had Dominguez not given the ride of the meet to the winner that day (Princess Dee 7/2), this 3 yo f. would have won it all-LONGSHOT SPECIAL
Both horses take huge steps up the claiming level but you can't tell what level they really belong at until they try it now, can ya?

7th Sar: #3) Trippi Appeal ran 2nd to best 2 yo in America First Samurai in AUg 7 allw. will be on lead
#4) Privat Vow-Asmussen/Bailey 2 yo- Need I say more!

saratoga samchaz 30th August 2005 12:24 AM

SARATOGA TURF COURSE LISTED AS GOOD
main track muddy and sealed

BAllston Spa scratches #2 Path of THunder, #13 Capeside Lady, #14 Ender's Sister #15 and # 16 draw in but don't pose much of a threat

Saratoga 9th) #1 Continental Reins- steps up condition after winning on inner turf in July- My first black booker of Saratoga meet finally runs back
#5 Gryffindor- not a black booker but traine dby my personal favorite-turf genius and steeplchase trainer extraordinaire Tommy Voss who has not won a flat race at Saratoga this meet. He AlWAYS does! THis horse looks very game and is 3-1-1-1- over the Sar. Turf with his last race being a game closing 3rd to next out stakes winner DAVE. Voss usually uses Jean-Luc "On the Green" Samyn who is getting a little long in the tooth, but today uses, who else but turf master Ramon "Dominator"(just penned that one but he needs some kind of nick name if he's gonna ride with the big boys) Dominguez. It tells me Voss (of John's Call fame- oldest horse to win a grade 1 at Belmont and a game and troubled close up 3rd in the Breeder's Cup Turf that same year at 9) is ready to strike

Just the one..... (speculative)

BELLA'S LASS GRAFTON R5 No.12 (1200m)

Take on trust..... speclative blackbooker. Forget last run when drawn in the Grandstand (18), ran third when drawn inside 2 starts back. In the (8) tomorrow so much more suitable. Don't know much about the opposition. The (1) Percy Sequalo and (5) Suredan look to be the dangers.

Both ran today. Decided to back Matthew's pick as it was running over same distance and in same class in the last at Benalla today. Many thanks Tarbs.

If Beadman was on him he would of been $2.50 ,,,i rate Boss better at distance races anyway...
fantastic value .. :)

brave chief 7th September 2005 03:30 PM

Hey Saratoga,

Mr Question is racing tomorrow at Retama Park (race 9) over a mile. Looks perfect, up in distance by 300m which should suit & what looks like a positive jockey change, Amanda L. Crandall has been replaced by John Byrne, and also barrier 4 this time not gate 12. Do you rate it?

Just watched the Evangaline Downs meeting 31/08/05 today.

This Man's Darling won by 17L unextended after being pressured in the lead from the 900m mark. Obvious but a huge win. Worth watching this replay if you can get a hold of it :)

Kara's Cat Was trapped 4 wide around the clubhouse turn, found the lead then pressured by both the #6 inside & #9 outside to the 600m pole. Still managed to fight on & only beaten inside the final 100m to run 3rd with a 4L gap to 4th.

Crawfish Etouffee Led in a pretty fast pace, being pressured by the #9 to boot. After doing all that early work, the jockey took off before acceptances at the 700m mark & was 4L clear at the 400m. Tired final 200m but that was expected. Winner had a cold inside run & was suited by the early speed.

Horse Whisperer 8th September 2005 11:53 AM

RAPT IN BLUE started from barrier 10 in a 1200m race at the sunshine coast on sunday and was about 4 wide on the turn and pulled away nicely in the straight for a good win. Should be worth watching, i think its racing next wednesday at doomben.

saratoga samchaz 9th September 2005 02:39 AM

Thanks Brave!!! I asked my buddy last night to look through Retama real quick for Mr. Question, and he wasn't in. Excellent! I don't know anything about him and Avenger spotted him, but I will get the form and look it over for sure and get back to you. I really don't like the tracks in the US that run at night. Most are cheap and it's hard to follow. But there are great values to be found if you do. Delaware Park trainers will ship to Charlestown and Penn National and crush those pigs. Look for guys like Steve Klesaris and Scott Lake- they're no secret but sometimes you can catch a price. They don't ship for nothing! Evangaline is one I try to avoid in a way because I don't know a whole lot about those crazy Cajuns in LA. A little history on Louisiana horse racing: They used to have all kinds of bush tracks and that's where the great LA jocks would start as 13 or 14 year olds(Kent Desormeaux, Eddie Delahouyse, MarkGuidry, Randy Romero, Shane Sellers.....) Watch a trainer named SAM DAVID JR. at Louisiana Downs, though if you get a chance. He is very high % and has always done a great job on the southern midwest circuit. And I knew his dad. He used to own a cheap little motel next to Gulfstream in Miami and I stayed there for the Breeder's Cup in 1989 (showing my age!). Alot of the jocks and horsemen used to stay there as well. Ironically, my brother stayed at some posh hotel on the beach for BC '89 and Randy Romero was hanging in the bar the night before the races and found out my bro and co. were from Delaware and told them, "So's my fillie's owner! Mrs. Lunger owns GO FOR WAND and she'll crush tomorrow in the Juvenile Fillies. Best horse I've ever been on." and that was after he had just gone undefeated 13 and 0 on PERSONAL ENSIGN! Gotta love those whacky Cajuns! Laissez le bon temps roullette!!! Sad thing about the Creole community in LA being just about decimated by Kun...rina! Mother Nature can sure let you know who is boss.

Yea I didnt think I watching the cream of the US crop. Most races i get to review only run about 1:13 or 1:14 for the 6f, lol

I also know nothing about these horses except for what I see on the video. Obviously I wont bother with a horse that has only won 1 from 39, etc :p. But as yet I havent found a US site that lets you search a horse and view its career record for free. But the virtual stable is great for keeping track of black bookers.

cheers

saratoga samchaz 9th September 2005 08:57 AM

Those night tracks are brutal but something just occurred to me. I know Travis Dunkelberger's agent at Charlestown and he used to review the card there with me all the time. He's one HELL OF A SPORTS HNDCPR. He was phenomenal for a few years and was getting a big percentage from some whales in Vegas at the Rio and Orleans. He kinda went sour when he moved back to West Virginia and had to go off and get married. Big dummy. lol Anyway if anyone is interested I can try to get in touch with him about that card. I guess because of the time difference you only get the night tracks. That's a shame because that is usually bottom level racing, not that there's anything wrong with that... That is why I started betting AUS. It's simply the best going at night for us. It doesn't matter what the purses are, the horses are better. Do you bet alot of night tracks over there and is it the same scenario? Virtual stable is great. I hate that none of the sites over here give the form for free. If you check around hard enough you might get lucky.
