Gday Crash

I read that article about ratings from that other site... I am afraid I use something more like Benford to make my price lines, rather than the other way and it has served me well.. the other way seems pretty convoluted to me.. What do u reckon?

crash 21st November 2005 11:30 AM

'Convoluted' is about right. Interesting read though. I like the Benford approach too. I only use my ratings as a base line anyway, looking for peaks and other things on top of those before selections. Even intuition plays a part:-)

Lismore R7/9 Bunger and 10 Watch your step [wins only, but havn't checked the PP]. With my other 2 tips, that's me for the day and I haven't put too much work into it. Bit ************ed from the w/end.

Good luck.

TheAvenger 21st November 2005 01:10 PM

Thanks for the tips, XPT, Crash. Hard fior a yank to get much information on a (Sunday night) Monday.

Regards,

Glenn

crash 21st November 2005 05:55 PM

My [very brief] handicapping ************ed it today. Long weekend for me [we have just moved house] and my eye was well out. Watch Your Step missing the start didn't help.

Cheers.

crash 21st November 2005 06:30 PM

Oh me-o-my. Why didn't I just follow your tips today XPT? I was well out of sorts.

Very well done mate. Very impressed.

Sportz 21st November 2005 06:44 PM

I hadn't seen this thread before now. When On The Take won, I wondered if you had it xpt, because I remembered that you liked horses which were the only one in the race with a C next to their name.

Gday Sportz...

if there is one very important thing I have learned over the years.. it is simply put... horses tend to repeat...

Hi XPT,

Lets see if my eye is in better today.

Townsville race 1/4 Miami Vice. Ran the 1200m at this track in 1.08.19 in a C1 [won]. Up in class to a C4 but a !.08 is a 1.08 and that would win a city handicap!!! Nice barrier and will do me for today's bet.

The 68.19 is a 68.91 from where I sit. Nearly 1 second's difference.

The preceding race was 69.19 for a CLASS 6.

Furthermore it only won by 0.2 lengths.

Enough evidence to discredit the 68.19.

Imagele 22nd November 2005 11:45 AM

just out of curiousity, checked the form of Miami Vice.
Seems it's a 21 year old mare.
With the cart horses being dragged out of the woodwork all over the country these days to feed the insatiability(is that a word?) of wall to wall racing, It would not surprise me.
Would the horse be Miami Ice by any chance?

xptdriver 22nd November 2005 11:50 AM

Even though I dont like Miami Ice in the race we are talking about.. there seems to be some confusion about its form.. My form is the cyberhorse punter form and it says :

MIAMI ICE

won a class 2 race at Townsville by .2 on 27/10 with 54 kg 1200m 68.91s
won a class 3 race at Townsville by .2 on 11/11 with 54.5 kg 1000m 57.18s

Interesting drop in distance

Today it is going around in a class 4 with 55 kg. 1200 m.. It has had 5 goes at the distance for the one win, no placings.. It has had the same Jock as today for the last 4 starts Its career reads 19/4/2/0 and was 2.5 on the NSW TAB when I looked.. seems a bit short for me.. but will probably win by panels :)

I am in no way knocking this horse.. just presenting the form that I have.

Sportz 22nd November 2005 01:16 PM

An interesting one at Sale today. Race 3-10 Aisle. Don't know an awful lot about this horse, but I know a lot about the name.

I've been betting for ages, since the late 70s in fact. However, I only really decided to start taking it seriously and start studying the races properly in early 1989. Well, the very first horse I ever put in my "blackbook" of horses to follow was a Victorian horse called AISLE and guess what - it duly came out next start and won the Victoria Handicap at Caulfield in March of 89 at nice odds. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Well, here we are, 16 years down the track and I almost feel obliged to have something on this one today. I'd probably look at saving on numbers 15 and 12 though, and maybe throw 16, 1 & 6 in for multis or something.

Anybody with an opinion on this race???

Imagele 22nd November 2005 01:58 PM

5/14 btn 2.4L Sale mdn. 1200m at 1st and only race start might be good enough reason to support it regardless of the name.
Interestingly the horse that beat it that day, Splendid Fellow, won it's last start, C2 at Toowoomba.
Currently $9-10 on supertab.

Yeah my opinion is it is a garbage race... Full of non performers for mine.. having said that something has to win..

I would think betting around 15-12-1-6 you should be able to find the winner... (13 and 16 for the multis)...It is a pretty low quality affair.. not too many place getters amongst them, and a couple of first starters, but there has to be a winner and they pay in aussie currency if you can find the winner

Good luck with it.... I think u may need it :)

mad 22nd November 2005 02:09 PM

If that is the same horse, and it's age is correct, the owners, trainers and jockeys should be ashamed of themselves.

A 21 year old mare is far too old to be racing in any race.

mad 22nd November 2005 02:19 PM

4 y.o gelding by my reckoning.

Chrome Prince 22nd November 2005 02:27 PM

Yes, I couldn't see it happeneing, although it has happened in the past.

Also AISLE is second up today, not the same horse Sportz backed way back when.

I don't understand how they can let horses have the same name ever.

In 20 years, it's going to get very confusing, what if this horse is something special and wins the same feature race. Or a Melbourne Cup, what pray tell, do they do then?

Any historian is going to have two horses with the same name winning the same race 20 plus years later, or a horse not capable, winning a Melbourne Cup 20 plus years later.

Just does not make sense to me.

I just might go and buy a yearling and name it Phar Lap, reckon they'd let it through?

:D

Pretty fitting Sportz. You got to enjoy your first blackbook winner over again, a bit uncanny it was his first win today..... It was enough for me to jump on.
Well done

Well, I thought it's form was okay, but I must admit the name had a fair bit to do with backing the horse.

Had a nice little bet on it and a saver on the 15. I didn't take a trifecta, but I did have a quinella and any2 including the 8, so a nice result.

Imagele 22nd November 2005 02:39 PM

Sorry to lead you astray Chrome.
The horse racing today is Miami Ice I believe, not Miami Vice.

Gday bj,
I think that mugwump might be hard to beat here. Won first up at this track last time, and I dont see any reason why he wont again.

mad 22nd November 2005 02:54 PM

OMG, a Unitab late mail selection just got up paying $15.90.

Thanks. Not the name I was thinking.
Just had a look at the totes and don't know if my tip will be worth much anyway....
Will wait til the fixed odds come on board....
