Dracs Back
I don't recall any reference on this forum to the amazing performance of a little horse called Dracs back at Ararat, Nov. 11.
Having it's 3rd race start, Dracs Back carreered away to win a C1 handicap over 1600m by 9.5L in a time of 1.33.8 secs carrying 56kg. Silver Birch the same day ran 1.34.9 in the open handicap carrying 54kg. Dracs back is engaged in a C3 hcp.at bendigo today. It's performance will be watched with interest and if it is set to repeat, it would have to be the bet of the century. |

I'll be watching with interest........... big claim - can only beat what they put you against! How well do you think Aarat form stacks up against "The Nursery Of Champions" form @ Bendigo...? I note X has it rates at 32 (next best 23 #8)..... hmmm, worth a look, but IMHO I wouldn't take any less than 3's (quoted $3.20 Pre-Post) Thanks for the heads up Imagele, wasn't really looking too much today - as slow day at work today - and that usually means too much time to bet outside my selections which = Undisciplined betting.... Good Luck Fella |
Hmmm, the form on the Unitab website says 1.32.66!!!
|
1.33.8 came from Ozeform.
|
One has to be careful with some country tracks, a 1:32:66 at Ararat is not the same as a 1:32:66 at another track.
Take Sunshine Coast for example, they have some outstanding times run their which just don't stack up anywhere else. Having said that, B Rawiller is engaged again, and the horse is proven at the distance. If he is more than 2/1, he's a damn fine bet. |

G'day Chrome You might notice that I compared the time to that run by Silver Birch in the open handicap. It would be interesting to know what the track record is for the Ararat 1600m. |
I don't have the track record for 1600m, but this is very interesting....
Silver Birch ran 94.23 to win the same race in 2002, which is the fastest time I have at hand. Giddyup. Edited: The same race that Drac's Back won at Ararat that is. Well it might not be the exact same race name. because I've just found out there are a number of 1600m races at Ararat named China Bowl....talk about confusing!!! |

As I recall, Siver birch was going very well at that time and 2 starts later ran 3/20 G2 hcp. 1600m. at Randwick. Sort of francs the time Dracs Back ran the other day regardless of where it was. Seems that any expectations of odds better than 6/4 might be a bit fanciful. Dracs back is a lightly raced 4yo of course and whatever problems kept it from the track for so long might be lurking again. |

Might be lucky to get evens. |

I reckon you are more savvy on racing than me. would you like to elaborate. |
I watched the pumping Dracs back gave them at ararat and also the previous start and both times he was within a couple of lengths from the front throughout the run. Now why did B. Rawiller take him out the back and post him 3 wide (it was bad enough to be back but 3 wide...)? did he think he was riding Makybe Diva?
Sure i am speaking through my pocket and i take nothing away from the winner he was too good on the day. And to all those that read this, win lose or draw after watching the run i was going to give the rider some flack. If darren Weir nows what is good for him and dracs back he will put on a proper city rider next start. |
What happened? I didn't see or hear it, but I have to say the odds about Shinko Blu sure were very generous!!! And the trifecta paid a lot more than I was expecting.

I watched the race and smelt a disaster as soon as they left the barriers. A pretty tidy effort and should have won. |
Oh okay, you've just explained what happened. Thanks.
Well, yet another reason to look for value I guess. |
Race 5 – McCAIG AIRCONDITIONING COUNTRY SHOWCASE CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1600 metres: On jumping away Holidazzle knuckled and shifted out and hampered DRACS BACK resulting in that gelding losing ground.
Near the 1100 metres Hurricane Hunter which was over-racing slightly, almost fell after clipping the heels of Holidazzle which was also over-racing slightly and being eased off the heels of Shinko Blu (D. Gauci) which eased at that stage after shifting in. D. Gauci was notified that in future he must ensure he is sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground in similar circumstances. DRACS BACK and Poseidon’s Secret were hampered in consequence. They find a way of being beaten. Particularly when anchored in a leg of the quaddie. |
