G3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup

Well, the highlight of my racing life is fast approaching. Having a runner in the Gold Cup, naturally I am interested in everyones thoughts on it.

Wild Queen is going to make another good run and goes in as our biggest threat. Leading Bid also looks a big danger, along with the kiwi Juerga. Other than that, knowing my horse, I dont feel threatened by the rest of the "current" field.

County Tyrone is old, and failed in all 9 starts at this distance. Currently out of form, and has a poor 2nd up record, so he would rate as my lay of the day in this one.

Ideally, we want an inside barrier (1-4) so she can jump straight to the rails and burn up no fuel getting there. And she WILL get a rails sit. Jeff never misses it. She has never done the full 1600m before, but we arent about to let that worry us because we know she is capable of it.

Naturally, I am not going to think that she is a big chance in this, but it would certainly be welcome if she kept the Cup Local.

So anyway, enough from me. Whats everyone else think?

hey lady

whos ur runner??

Shaun 29th November 2005 01:20 AM

I would say the name says it all...lol

Lady Frisco 29th November 2005 07:24 AM

LOL Shaun. Yes. She isnt Wild Queen, and Jeff Penza has the ride.. Chances are very good it's Lady Frisco. Only other Mares in the race are Frisco's Harem and Piculet.

Anyway, yes it is Lady Frisco. She is a good mare, all too easily written off by many (all the better for my pocket ;) ). Up in class (but since when isnt a group race up in class for most horses), but that never stopped her from dinting peoples exotics before. Someone keeps forgetting to tell her that she isnt supposed to run a good race :D ...

Barriers today *fingers crossed* and more rain at the moment too. So much for Dead 4 on Thursday..

The horse drew barrier seven.

Yes.. could have done better, but a couple of dual nominations may work to our advantage. 7 isnt an unmittigated disaster. That would have been 13. Will get the jump on most of those inside her. Leading Bid jumps well, but then eases off, so he will open up the rails for her.

Rain rain rain... Hope it stops now.. abandoned would be very bad! Although the nasty weather isnt helping the form searching. Opens it up more and throws in a lot of unknown contingents.

Blah, just gonna go watch, and see what happens.. She made it to a G3.. I am happy with that for now.

Good Luck Lady Frisco ...
looks like alot of speed..i wonder if Cateclipse will take on Wild Queen up front...should suit your mare who should take the sit off them.
i like Leading bid in this aswell..
and with the likely speed i wouldnt be surprised to see Verb or Sam Sung a Song running on late ..
my tips
Leading Bid, Lady Frisco
Sam , Verb , Wild Queen
Cateclips , Frisco's Harem..

not sure of the track,,,,??

tough race ..but shes in with a chance...good luck :)

*looks out the window* Not raining. At least, not yet. However, calling it overcast right now would be an understatement.

Given the state of the track, I cant see the back markers making a lot of ground in the straight. We have had no extra rain over night (In Penrith), but its not offered a heat source to dry the track out either.

I would say we are looking at Heavy.

Well, I would have been here sooner, but I felt like I had walked to sydney and back when I got home and just wanted to crash!

What can I say. By 4:50 my nerves were shot to pieces... But what can I say. Wild Queen is one hell of a horse. Wet, dry, Long, short. Handy barely covers it. Cataclipse held on well for 3rd and Verb was a bit of a surprise getting up there.

But, I had to watch all that on the replay, as I didnt even know who won the race when it was over. I was naturally watching my horse.

With My BB, 9th is even better than I could have hoped. She was certainly not shamed on the day, and I just couldnt be more proud of her right now. What can I say. She was taking a step up in distance. This is the first time she has seen a muddy track, and she was coming to the end of her prep. A mile in the good may have been easier, 1200 in the mud may have been easier, but she slogged it out with the big boys yesterday. She put in everything she had, and then some, refused to quit even when she probably knew she should. She may not have won,or even run into a cheque, but she once again proved she is more class then people give her credit for, and more heart than style.

When Jeff brought her back to the saddling yard, she was completely wasted. Even after race 10 was run she was still sweating up and wound tight. She just refused to quit and pushed herself too far, despite Jeff trying to ease her down in the straight because he knew she couldnt take it. Lady is going out for a spell now, and for her own good, wont see the 1600m any more. She gave us every sign she could handle it, but on the day, showed us it was only because she point blank refuses to quit, whether its good for her or not. I will let ya'll know how she has pulled up today when I hear from the manager, and I hope she, or I, didnt kill any bets. But she put everything into this race, and did better than I had dreamed.

So refreshing to see an owner who loves his horse so openly. She sure did you proud and she'll reward you with a few winners cheques soon enough.
Good Luck and i'll let you know when mine are running around the place,,

Merriguy 2nd December 2005 09:52 PM

I'll second that.
