Tennis Discrepancy
There is an amazing discrepancy with the Lapentti/Przysiezny tennis match at Estoril that closes-off at 18:00 tonight. NSWTAB currently has Lapentti at $6.50 yet he is the fave on Betfair at $1.20, and Przysiezny is the outsider at $2.60.
According to the world rankings, Nicolas Lapentti is ranked 126 and Przysiezny at 319. There is another Lapentti, initial G, who is ranked at 292. It would appear that the TAB has got it terribly wrong. |
hey michael,
they have now suspended that game......wonder why???? hehehe |
They weren't quick enough in suspending it. I had a bet on Lapentti.
|
Got him at $6.50. I'm hoping I don't get notification they cancelled the bet even though I don't think they can????
|
Yeah, it's still suspended.
I don't understand it. It was obviously a mistake in setting the prices, and I don't just mean getting the two Lapenttis mixed up. After all, according to what you said, the lower ranked Lapentti (292), is still ranked ahead of the other guy (319), so he shouldn't have been $6.50 either. Weird. Are you sure there's no injury involved here??? |
Hi, Sportz.
That thought passed through my mind, but one would assume that the Betfair punters would also be aware of it and that it would be reflected in the market, or if he was injured/couldn't play that Betfair would also have suspended the event. It seems the TAB has permanently suspended the match. Instead, why didn't they recalculate the odds and reinstate betting? |
who is actually playing, nicholas or giovanni lapentti?
|
Hi, Chuck, it is Nicholas.
The TAB now shows the match as N. Lapentti vs. Almagro instead of Lapentti vs. Przysiezny, and have suspended it. Betfair still shows the match as Lapentti vs Przysiezny. Who is playing who? Maybe its the TAB playing with us??? |
|
michael
Really who cares? I just hope you get the cash, you deserve too and ill be cheering for ya mate. Go you good thing!!!!
|
game on
lapentti 1-0 of to a nice start
|
Hi, Chuck. Thanks for the website, it'll help to know who beats who.
Breadman, my concern is that the TAB's records have changed and are not showing the game I bet on. If I win will I be paid? I seem to think that there was a situation some time ago when they changed a tennis player's opponent after betting had opened and there was a bit of a furore, because someone had a bet thinking that the two players shown were playing against each other. He wanted his money back because he claimed he would not have had the bet if the TAB had listed the two correct players at the time of his bet. I think the TAB eventually refunded his bet. |
i think you will be paid

Im pretty sure you will be paid, is the bet you had on record??? like do you have a copy of the bet obviosly placed over the net. i always print my sports bets out? Anyway im sure it will cool. |
Live Tennis Site
Hey Michael if your up tonight and want to get updated scores try this site
www.livescore.com thats what i use and it seems to be ok for me anyway. |
Thanks, Breadman. A very handy site. At the moment its one set each. I checked my bet history with the TAB, and the bet is recorded. Here's hoping Lapentti wins.
|
Hi, Bradman. Lapentti won.
Did the TAB pay me? NO. They refunded my money. I've sent them an e-mail asking why they did not honour the bet. |
Had a feeling that would happen.
By the way, one of the websites I look at for Tennis scores had G.Lapentti, not N.Lapentti. So it's obvious that there was a lot of confusion regarding this match. |

That's Soccer. |
Theres tabs along the top of the page Sportz ......

Michaelg
Hey mate,
Sorry to hear about that. If you ask me thats a load of crap, I BET if you made a mistake they wouldnt refund your money. I dont know how much you would have won or whether it would be worthwhile to seek further advice. Maybe give a current affair or today tonight a call. I just wouldnt be resting on it thats all. Gees mate im so ????ed off and I didnt have money on either, but I hate it when smarter people than the tab get some value and then they just try to screw you. Good luck in whatever happens about this sad situation. Thanx Floydyboy for pointing out that to Sportz, im sure that will be a big help for him in the future when he wants some live scores. Maybe we could start a petition on the forum for michael (just an idea). cheers and good punting |
Why did they wait until after the match had been played to refund your money? Is it safe to say that, had Lapentti lost the match, your money would not have been refunded?

Oh, thanks for that. I always use that site for Soccer scores. I thought that was the only sport on there. |
Hi.
I received a reply from the TAB. My bet history with them has been changed, Przysiezny's name has been substituted with Almagro, consequently their records now show I had a bet of $50 on the Lapentti vs Almagro match even though yesterday it was correctly recorded in the bet history with the TAB that my bet of $50 was on Lapentti to beat Przysiezny. The Lapentti/Almagro match was cancelled because Almagro couldn't play, and therefore all money refunded, that's the reason my stake-money was re-credited to my account. I have now sent the TAB an e-mail explaining the situation, and have even asked them to refer to this thread. |
So, was Lapentti originally supposed to play Almagro, but Almagro withdrew due to injury???
It sounds like they've tried to cover themselves here after making a blunder. |
My query has now been referred to the Claims Officer. Hopefully there will be a happy ending.
One can easily question the ethics of the TAB in changing the details of any bet after it has been made and which has also been confirmed in the Bet History. I'd like to think it was just human error and not "dirty tricks" by the TAB. I wonder if anyone else had bet Lapentti to beat Przysiezny? |
I had a similar experience earlier this year with a betting agency. I noticed that they were paying Sri Lanka $9.50 to beat Bangladesh in a ODI. I put $200 on it but got an email later that day telling me my bet had been cancelled due to human error! It sucks they can just refund a bet if they think they have the wrong odds posted
|
Hi, CTO5. I presume they contacted you before the match had ended. I suppose you can be at least be thankful they did contact you because the TAB didn't in my situation. They arbitrarily changed my bet without informing me. Most people would consider what they've done not only extremely poor customer service but a complete lack of ethics.
The TAB has "settled" my query by now crediting my account with $225 in addition to the $50 when they had declared all bets to be refunded. So I have received a total of $275. But by my arithmetic, a winning $50 wager on a $6.50 selection should be a return of $325, not $275. I have again sent them an e-mail querying this. Hopefully they have made an honest mistake (I'm assuming they have made a mistake) and have not penalised me for whatever reason. |
michaelg well done congrats
well done mate, took on the golly green giant and won!!! very deserved and they will fix up the difference prolly a mistake on there part but legally they wouldnt have a foot to stand on. This is great news for the battlers on this site and gives everyone hope. Again mate congrats!!!

just wanted to say good on ya mate
good to see the little guy come out on top every now and then |
Hi.
I'm still waiting for some news about the shortfall of $50. When any of us has an online bet with the TAB we do not have the luxury of cancelling our bet even if one second second later we realise we have made a mistake. At least they should give us five minutes leeway as they do at any TAB outlet. Even five minutes does seem miserly. One can easily conclude that their philosophy is "screw the punter, but ONLY after we've got his/her money". |

I've been in that boat before with them. I had a flexi trifecta put on through their website and I mistakenly had the amount of combinations multiplied by eight rather than the $8 I intended to spend. I rang their customer srevice hotline to try and rectify the mistake, but I was told it was too bad even though the race was still five minutes from jumping. To say I was not a happy camper would be a big understatement. |
That's very poor customer relations, but then again, can we expect anything better from the TAB? They are so inflexible which can very easily lead to justified anger by their customers, as proved in your situation. Maybe if each case was judged on its merits...?
There is a good reason why they have imposed a time limit to cancel bets, and that is to avoid market manipulation which in your case would seem extremely unlikely. And we can cancel a bet within a paltry five minutes of it being placed at any of their outlets, so why then do they deny the online punter this "generous boon"? I suppose there's a good reason but I can't think of one. |
I have now received an e-mail from the TAB informing me that "my claim has been approved and the amount of $225 was deposited into my account on the 05/05/2006 after 17:00".
I have again had to explain that my winning bet of $50 was on a $6.50 selection which means that I should have been paid a total of $325 and not $275 being the original refund of $50 plus the $225 deposited on 05/05. There is still a $50 shortfall. I'm beginning to find this very amusing and am smiling even as I type this. |
Halleleujah!!! I've finally been given the shortfall of $50. It's only taken 9 days and quite a few e-mails having to explain the situation. If I hadn't contacted them they would have illegally kept my winnings of $275. Not once did they apologise for their error or explain how it happened. I used to work for a very large Life Insurance company, and if anyone there had've treated any customer like the way the TAB did to me, then heads would've rolled, and rightfully so.
What the TAB did is tantamount to fraud, and they don't seem to care. One could easily conclude that over the years they could have done similar unconscionable tricks/rorts and will continue to do so because there seems to be an absolute absence of integrity and concern. And they have the gall to demonise Betfair!!! |
