More Staking Help Required
G'day, all. Stumbled upon this great site a couple of weeks ago whilst trying to find if anybody else was running something similar to the system I've developed. Keep up the good work!
Now, to my question... The system I've been paper trialing for about 5 weeks is showing a small LOT overall of 3.94% from 164 bets, $1W:$6P, with a win SR of 34.15% and a place SR of 62.80%. However, the original idea for the system was to be a "set and forget" type of thing, i.e. you get up in the morning, find any horses that meet the criteria, place the bets, go to work, come home to a steadily building bank balance. Obviously it hasn't quite lived up to expectations, resulting in what'd be a slowly draining bank balance. The fault in the system is that if I pick my horses hours before they jump, I end up with a few short priced favourites that offer no value, and a couple of nags in the $8-$14 range that invariable never come in. Weeding these out and only betting horses between $2.50 and $6.50 as they jump the system shows a 20.30% POT from 87 races at 41.38% win SR and 68.97% place SR. Fantastic! Except I'm at work with no access to betting on weekdays, shopping/footy on Saturdays, and golf on Sundays. So I have no way of catching the odds as they enter the barriers and then placing my bets. Is there any way around this? (Besides quitting my day job!) I've also just tried the Retirement Staking Plan on my overall system (LOT 3.94%), win bet only, and that showed great gains, about to test the Crusher as well. Is there any way anybody can think of to modify these to bet per day rather than per race? Because again, I'd have to be able to modify my bet as each race came along. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
One way would be to target the first qualifing selection one comes to for each meeting.
e.g. one selection for each qualifing venue. e.g. 4 bets for 4 venues. What one will usually find is that the shorter priced horses seem to pop up in the first half of most meetings. Another way is to only bet your selection if it is also one of the 3-4 UniTAB selections, usually after 10.00am. That's if that suits ones time schedule with work. This should weed out a few duds. You may miss a few also ,but not many. Cheers. |
Staking or timing?
IF you were betting via WA Tab (as that is the only one I can currently access automatically) and IF you are happy to load up your selections and parameters and leave your PC running and connected to the inernet all day, I think I can provide you with the program you need.
Staking plans usually require the previous result affecting the next bet. You could keep the staking plan for better value if that is what you want, though automatic bet increases are fraught with danger. No, I am not looking for an up-front payment. Though should this be successful, I would expect some sort of commission ;-) Seriously though, if I provide you with say a simple grid (Date, Venue, Race, Selection, Bet, Lower Limit, Upper Limit) would that do it? We could call ourselves "The Usual Suspects". |
Thanks for the thought SeeDee, but after minor disaster a couple of Saturdays ago when I sat dividend watching all day and still made a significant loss, I''ve decided on another approach.
The judicious application of the right combination of filters has pumped my strike rates up significantly and I'm back to paper trialing live selections for a while to make sure my backfitted filters hold true long term. That'd been going swimmingly too for 11 days (only 2 of those were small losses) until yesterday. I thought Saturdays were supposed to be good days for the punt. |
With a strike raye like that i would dump the place bet go for the win and start betting with an online bookie that offers best tote.

Shaun has a good point, though there is another way, IAS offer a service whereby you can state your minimum odds, eg. $20 win Crossing Jordon @Top Fluc.(minimum odds accepted =$3) it won at $3.20c so your bet is on, IF it had won OR lost @$2.90c your stake would be refunded for a no-bet. can be very handy!
|
I think you have to bet on the phone for that service, but a great way to get rid of short priced runners.
|
Shaun, yes that's right but of course by the very nature all your bets can be placed with one phone call well b4 racing!

MINIMUM size bet with IAS (top fluctuation) is $50.

Staking plan help
Morning SeeBee,
I was interested in your posting from the other day. I mainly bet on the WA TOTE and would find something like this very useful as I do my own ratings and pricing on WA metro meetings. Could you drop me an email if you are happy to discuss. phippsy at iinet dot net dot au [QUOTE=SeeDee]IF you were betting via WA Tab (as that is the only one I can currently access automatically) and IF you are happy to load up your selections and parameters and leave your PC running and connected to the inernet all day, I think I can provide you with the program you need. Yes i would be interested in taking a look, i have it partialy automated with the WA tab using Excel macros and the send file system.
This should also work with the NSW/VIC tab aswell. shaun2166 at hotmail dot com |
Darkydog, good point there mate, especially if you're using a staking plan sarting with smaller amounts. As I only bet level stakes with this type of bet the $50 minimum is not a problem but it would be interesting to know if there is an alternative to IAS, offering the Top Fluc (with min. price stipulation) I remember management mentioned it at one time??????
|
Partypooper.
Just 5 minutes ago I asked IAS about top fluctuation WITH minimum acceptable price (not available aka Sarah)
Top fluctuation ok BUT not minimum acceptable price. Poor form in my opinion. darky. |
Shucks another door closed, but I wouldn't take it as gospel from one person on the front line as they DEFINITLY have offered this service for a long time before. I was told just to ask for it when I placed my bets.
Also I would ask management here if you're interested in that because they were plugging another bookie recently who was offering the same. If you just want Top Fluc, then I suppose sportsbet is best as they offer Top Fluc on the net no minimum bet amount. Digressing slightly KaiserSoze, sorry about that but hope it's food for thought anyway. |
