Computer issues
Yesterday I had problems all day when either refreshing, looking at dfs, trying to put a bet on etc etc.
The problem being that 80% of the time it goes to an error page. I then have to close the site, open it and relog in. I was hoping it was a hiccup only yesterday, but I just went to log in and get the same thing, it won't let me just goes to an error page. Anyone out there experiencing the same???? |
yes mate yesterday i had the same problem. ive had enough so ive now joined unitab. also thinking of joining ias but not sure just yet. ill still keep the nsw one open because i like the dfs form. honestly for such a big company they are a joke and one guy on the radio said that the past the post divvies will not be final until the problem is fixed sometime in the coming months!!! your got to be kidding, how can they take that long??? i wouldnt buy shares in the company for the simple reason is i hope they go broke and someone with a bit of brains can get in their and fix this garbage up once and for all. i know that them going broke is a virtual million to one but i hope they do. these top blokes are useless and there getting overpaid for doing nothing.
good luck today chika regards breadman |
thanx for that info on ias. ill give that a miss now. betezy is where i do win and quinella betting but they have no multi options. so i really need a site that can provide that. unitab pools are too small for multis in doubles and quinellas. trifectas are ok. anyway i thought nsw and vic were combining their pools?? whens this going to happen. suppose cant ask for too much they cant even get the simple things done properly yet, god only knows what would happen if they combined the pools as well. probably wouldnt be able to put a bet on full stop. anyway mate hope things get better for you. im also wondering whats going to happen at carnival time in melbourne this year. nsw cant handle it when they were by themselves whats going to happen now there a joint venture!!!

What an amazing corporate joke.
They should have known there were going to be problems with any tests that one would normally run. This tells me that non were done based on average day of oporation. Only hyperthetical testing . Its hard to beleive that a multi-million dollar enterprise is so inept at what they are paid very handsomely to do. You could pay those guys $100M ,the result would be the same. They are the wrong dudes for the gig. Maybe they should be running a parrallel system to iron out any bugs. Maybe they should use the same system QLD TAB uses & scrap theirs , its written off with deprciation anyway. One must have rocks in their head ,to think that new components to a system should be run with no saftey net. I feel NSW TAB has been allowed to run its resources down so low that it cant cope with the extra work load. Look how slow it has always been & complicated ,compared to UniTAB. Thank goodness that they were not allowed to get their bumbling hands on UniTAB. I feel if the problems they are having will take a few months to fix , maybe every one should move up a grade & just open up a QLD UniTAB a/c for a few months , that should fix their problems. No punters - No Problem. You see, if there werent all those needy punters out there using the system , they might be able to get some work done. Try not to remain a victim of anothers ineptitude , there are other options e.g. UniTAB , this has always been easier & faster to use anyway. If every one did this , they definitly would loose $10's of millions in turnover. Lets see if human nature does what phsycologists say humans will do in these circumstances , which is ,humans do not like moving out of their known comfort zone , no matter how bad it gets. e.g. Banks instead of Credit unions. I dont feel they think there is any rush to fix anything , it might get sorted in a few months , it might not ... so what! ... I have still got a job.. dont rush me ..they dont pay me enough to worry about such minor things. Riddle. Q:How many NSW TAB Members of the Board does it take to fix a flickering neon light bulb. A: Non , theres nothing wrong with it the way it is. Cheers. |
The ONLY good thing about the current site is the live video streaming.
I find it really annoying that to see the results I have to go off the normal page, (can't just refresh to see the dividends). Of course you can hit F5, but you risk an error page :( The Account balance is very annoying also. The balance sits on the top of the page and you can't refresh it, unless you place a bet, or you go to "my account", but that brings up a ************ pop up. I don't want it that way. Why won't they listen! Bhagwan, the more money you pay people, the more they take the job for granted and don't care. More money equals more stuff ups. |

The biggest problem I had with the site the other day, was when I pressed submit for a bet. The error page came up. I then tried again, and the site just came up with the normal page that when you can't access a website.
Once I finally submitted this bet. I suddenly realised that it had deducted the money from my account from the other bets that they said didn't go through. Im only thankful I was trying out the "Flexi option" had it been a normal bet selection and gone through three times for a loss. I would not be very happy. And there was no-way to show that the bets went through as my account balance didn't refresh. And if the page comes up with error you only presume that it didn't go through, as there was NO information to show that I had placed the bet. They say to print your bet slip - but I was deprived of that option. Its a real pity its happening. |

I have never experienced a problem with IAS myself and find their service 1st class.
Cheers. darky |
Can I ask why anyone would want a TAB account these days?
You can get better exotic divs with IAS and not interfere with the pool. The win place divs are laughable. Trebles etc available on most Corporate sites. Seems the only outcome from betting with the TAB is to waste money. |

I need an account to see the live streaming I need an account to access the DFS I like to bet and be able to deposit and withdraw anywhere straight away. I don't posses or want a credit card. Sometimes the dividends are actually better than offered elsewhere (in certain cases). I also use my TAB account as a bank - no fees, easy access ;) |
easy in, easy out, same as Chrome, i use it as a bank, take funds out when you want some from the local, its great, but the site,...........my goodnes,............please nsw tab read this,..............please fix your site,............it is pretty bad !
easy d |
Hi Guys, I hate to sound like I am jumping on the IAS bandwagon :P I just wanted to say that I use IAS ALL the time (too much really) and it has never crashed for me at all.
I also find that 9 times out of 10, I will get better odds then i would if I were betting with my NSWTAB Account... Although i do use the NSW tab account for DFS.. but if you want something better, go to ozhorseracing.com.au and pay the dollar per meet - it gives you the last 15 starts which is a major bonus. Oh I also love that IAS allows you to deposit ANY amount - rather then the minimum $50 that NSWTAB allows (yaaahh for the big spenders i know!) :P I do have one annoyance with IAS though (which you are all going to think is really stupid) but they gave a bonus recently of $100 and put it directly into my account, which WAS great at the time... When the bonus was spent gambling though, along with a large amount of other winnings i had accumulated in my account, I added more money ------ After i won, tried to draw out my big win of $101 roughly but it said I could only draw out $1 - because i hadnt met the requirements of the bonus... After calling them I found out i had to turn over $2000 to get the free $100! So now I am basically betting and hoping to win alot more then $100, so it doesnt cut me so much when i have to forfeit it too take it out... I just seem to put money in rather then take it out though! Anyways to cut a long story short :P - if they put any money in your account - find out what the requirements are for it - and then get them to take it out if you dont like them!.. Its easier to lose it before you spend it! I know its only $100 ... but I am not the worlds richest gambler! - not yet anyways :) DQ |
I use a Vic. TAB account because I win money [make a profit].
Try that with Betzy, IAS [I've had both] or any other account except the TAB's and see how long it takes to be seriously restricted or have your account canceled. Profit comes from a prize pool with the TAB, not their bottom line ! |
I can't believe there are punters out there who still use Internet Explorer as their browser [or firefox for that matter]. It is the worst security threat on computer and bandit programs are written especially to exploit it's [leaking like a sieve] vulnerabilities.
The best ......? 'Avast' ...it's in the 21st century. |
Quote:
Gday Crash avast is just and anti virus??? I am confused as to how that relates to browsers.. I use firefox and Opera... I agree IE is rubbish, but a lot pple use it.. Cheers |
Sorry, I meant Avant browser, not Avast.
Why? Unlike IE and firefox to a much lesser degree, Avant doesn't contain ANY functions or codes to help other people or programs to access your computer. The only think wrong with Opera [an excellent browser] is the ************ great big magnifier square in the bottom right-hand corner and dosn't have anywhere near the customize ability of Avant. |

gday crash thanks mate I will have a look at it Cheers |

Gday crash I have had a look and downloaded the browser... where have they been hiding this lil gem... man is it fast or what? Thanks for the tip Cheers |
Fastest browser [and safest] in the world.
A little trick I just read about is to remove the splash screen [like I said, it's very customisable]: go to tools/ Avant browser options/miscellaneous/..and untick 'show splash screen when starts'. There is also a very active Avant user forum worth a look: http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewforum.php?f=4 |
We have all heard: "Firefox is Faster, Firefox has Lower Requirements, Firefox is Secure, Firefox defends me from all Spyware, etc."
How misleading is it? Apart from it actually being slower than IE, read on for the truth about these myths [especially about it's security].... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Suppo...refoxMyths.html |
Crash,
You seem to be the man that knows about these things, so could you recommend a site that reviews (independently, if their is such a thing) 'puters, accessories etc. Am looking to upgrade some equipment and would like to read a little background on my options, if i could. Thanks. |
Hi Mad,
I've been building and/or setting up computers locally for quite a few years now [make a few bob to bet with]. It might be a good idea to let me know what you have and what your upgrade ideas are and any particular purposes you have in mind. I might put you on the right track toward final decisions and what direction to look in and probably a few things worth considering that you might not have even thought about. If you know what you want to do and need no further advice, here is one of the Tech. forums I am a member of that does a lot of genuine reviews etc. [among other things]. One of the best sites around that won't put you wrong: http://www.rojakpot.com/articles.aspx You can contact me here or if you like: behn_scenic AT Yahoo.com.au |
Good man crash, thanks for that.
Essentially i am looking to do one or perhaps a few things. First up i was looking to review some notebooks, as an addition to my desktop. Nothing hectic as i have a desktop for grunt work, although their isn't a lot of grunt work. Just want some mobility whilst running a program or two (e.g office) and perhaps an internet connection via wireless router. Perhaps in a year or two i'll upgrade my desktop, currently Dell, so it's always good to know where to look for reviews of equipment. Didn't want to use these "PCMAGS" etc as often their reviews are based upon amounts of advertising revenues derived. Finally i may or may not have use for some higher end equipment, and that will depend on the success of something i'm currently working on. However it may well require a reasonable amount of storage capacity, video editing, servers perhaps??? with a website established. However that may or may not eventuate so i'm a little vague on the requirements there myself. |
mad,
A common problem with electronics is to buy not what you need now, but might need in the future and also to buy features and power etc. you might never use and probably won't need. Considering the speed of digital development and the rapid price slide of all things digital, it makes no sense to buy anything you actually have no concrete plans to use right now or the [very] near future. Think of the [unwise] early adopters of over pixeled cameras, HD video recorders, and too powerful [and heavy] laptops that all cost an arm and a leg a few years ago that can now be bought at often a quarter of the price with much better features, performance, weight etc. etc. Same goes with computers. I run 2 rigs here. One is a real grunt-master with the video card alone costing more than many computers and an AMD64 3500 processor sitting in the motherboard that cost about $350, 4g of 'matched' ram and a screen costing around $500. The UPS power board alone cost another $350 and the whole rig is a continuious work in progress. It even has water cooling ! The other rig is a Pentium 2 that I cobbled together for less than $100 from second-hand parts that still has a 60g hard drive with 1/2 gig of ram and a pretty quick processor. It does everything most people would ever use a computer for and a lot more it will never be used for. One is used for high-end gaming and photography editing and the other for almost everything else. Look at the notebook reviews and work out exactly what you need it for now and in the [very] near future and then hunt down the best price. Don't take advice off a computer salesman about anything and never ask for their suggestions. I would go small and light with the features you need, Look at battery cost and the time it lasts before re-charging. 1/2 the usage times claimed for it [about right] and check the ability to change it yourself easily when it needs it [about 2yrs.]. There have been some big advances in notebook HD's [no moving parts] which will revolutionize battery life before re-charging. HD's are the big power drain so avoid more G's than you need. Cheers. |
Avant browser,
There is a DAX error in this browser that the administrators admit they cant understand or fix.(on their troubleshooting website) A lot of people are having serious problems with it,particularly when trying to access msn hotmail. Other than that it gets an enthusiastic response from users. |
Hotmail?
What the browser is doing is to trying to block all [window based] nasties :-)) |
Quote:
Being serious, your only correct there if you haven't upgraded recently to the latest version of Avant. New users wouldn't have that problem. |
I downloaded the latest edition yesterday and as I said the administrators dont have a solution for that problem as yet. Just ask them,
|
Have you tried using Yahoo mail [a slightly better life experience] ?
|
syllabus23,
Could you please post a post link to the [current?] problem you are talking about ? Thanks. |
This is the one I used.DAX error with hotmail.
|
The browser is great,,,but this error is a pain in the azz.I asked the moderator yesterday and he said that they were working on fixing that problem.
|
This may be the answer.
After the above problem, I checked for more updates and added the following: KB904942, KB829019, and KB891122. Avant now works fine with no DAX error. I'm pretty sure the first one listed is the patch that fixed the problem. It has to do with authentication problems. Good Luck |
The MSN hotmail problem was fixed in release issue:
Avant Browser 10.2 Build 39, Released: 04.02.2006 [2 releases ago]. if you are having that problem with MSN hotmail with the latest issue, I can find no posts from anyone else with the problem and nor can you it seems. If there is any posts about this issue please post a link as previously requested. I suggest you put your problem [in detail] to the Avant forum where it can be investigated. Not much use putting it here [?] |
Been doing some research.
Would like to get your thoughts on this crash, if you don't mind. http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index...3;pid;1480;pt;1 |
Mad,
Toshiba Tecra A7 ComputerWorld: $1794.00 or [both are good]: Toshiba Tecra A8 Notebook [check review here:http://www.mobilised.com.au/content/view/579/77/ Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83G, 80GB, 15.4"WXGA, DL-DV... Sale Price: $1795.00 [Computerworld] Both priced at: http://www.cworld.com.au/product_info.php?ID=120371 XP needs re-installing about every 18mths. as it slows down ...and down .... SO..... You want to specify: to have the HD formated for 15G primary partition [drive C: for XP OS and for all program installs] and and the rest [Drive E:] formated as a Dynamic partition [not extended-primary] for all you files, data and everything else etc. That way, when you wish to re-install windows XP [or it crashes for some reason], it's a simple mater of re-installing the OS and programs on drive C: leaving all your data and files etc. untouched still on Drive E:-) Whatever you buy [I'd go the A8], DO NOT let them install the free 90day Nortons software [it's very hard to get rid of] ! I've recently reviewed and upgraded my security combo and I can recommend this little lot for complete no-fuss and non-intrusive security [download them to disk for instant installation to new laptop or whatever]. All free: AGV free version anti-virus [covers your mail too] http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 Sunbelt Kerio Personal firewall [replaces Sygate] http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm Ewido anti-spyware [it's free after the 30 day trial but you lose a couple of features which you will not need]. http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Hope this helps, cheers. |
Add Win Patrol [free process protector] to the above security combo:

Hi crash, I'm fanatical about security but expert I'm not!! I've just d/load Avant & am wondering how to transfer all my Firefox favs. Manually? I haven't thoroughly checked it out yet so with some luck, might be able to answer my own question!! Hoping ....... can't even work out the smilies!

Cinna,
This is how you do it: Open up FireFox / Bookmarks / Manage Bookmarks. Within the MB window click File/Export and choose a place to save the file to [Desktop or My documents]. After you have exported your Firefox favorites as an html file, you can import that file into IE. Once in IE, the favorites will also be available in Avant. To import the favorites file to IE: Open Internet Explorer, click on the File menu and select Import & Export. An import/export wizard will start. Click on Next / Import Favorites and then Next. Use the browse button under "Import from a File or Address", and locate the bookmark.html file you previously saved on your Desktop or My Documents. Regardless which way you are importing the remaining screens are the same. It will now ask you which "Destination Folder" you would like to save the imported bookmarks into. It is recommended you simply click Next. Click Finish on the following screens and you are done. These IE favorites will now be available from Avant. -------------------------------- For future use to Import/Export or to save favorites and anything else etc: The easiest way to transfer your favorites etc. to a file is to use XP 'Backup' available in accessories in XP Pro. If you have XP Home addition you won't have this feature but it is on the XP Home CD ....hidden. [Avant has no Import/Export utility so you cannot export favorites into Avast directly into a favorites file useing backup]. Here is how to access it and install it to your accessories menu: 1.Insert your Windows XP CD into the drive and, if necessary, double-click the CD icon in My Computer to run the CD. 2.On the Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP screen, click Perform Additional Tasks. 3.Click Browse this CD. 4.In Windows Explorer, double-click the ValueAdd folder, then Msft, and then Ntbackup. 5.Double-click Ntbackup.msi to install the Backup utility to accessories folder. 6.Remove XP CD and Re-start your PC. If you wish to export any files or setting to disk useing backup, make sure you export to desktop or my documents first and from there you can copy the file[s] to disk. Exporting directly to disk useing backup wizard is only possible if you have XP Pro. Don't click on C drive by itself when using this utility and try to backup your whole drive! Hope this is of some use. |
Thanks crash for such a quick & detailed reply. No time today but will do the changeover tomorrow with some peace & quiet! It'll give me an excuse to get rid of a few rarely used or now defunct ones!!
