On A Jeune my top early fancy. Set for this race after running 2nd last year & goes up only 2kg on that run.
|
Early tip TAWQEET. Has already found his northern hemisphere (top) staying form in the southern hemisphere, which is a rarity. 2 miles will suit him to a tee.
|
Often rains Cup day? might be worth considering wet track form!
|
I had a bit on Railings at the $34 they offered the first weekend of betting and that is the only bet I have had for the cup this year it is a tough race to sort out so far this year in years past I had a fair idea what I was backing for the cup a month or so before hand this year might be a that day decision they are a very even bunch of horses IMO whoever gets the right run will probably win if they can stay at all.
If someone held a gun to my head and asked for selections I guess I would go with something like this Railings On A Jeune Tawqeet Pentane Art Success |
only bet I've had so far in this is Yeats (like many other punters already)
concerned with the off-again on-again intention of running in the big one as well as the procrastinated trip to get here also the jockey saga.....I've looked at Railings (great chance in CC) but his 14th in last years MC has put me off...On A Jeune, Tawqeet do look genuine chances...although Art Success is a 2 mile winner the MC will be a huge class rise on that win...will have some on the lightly raced Pentane his Auckland Cup win was outstanding and in addition he is a son of Pentire, who is also the sire of Xcellent who ran 3rd in last years MC |
I am going for Activation. Aspect him to run well in CC. Going for double on Pop rock-Activation and OSJ-Activation.
|
Have liked HEAD TURNER and TAWQEET for sometime now,not going jump ship now, they will stay all day.
|
The enzedders Pentane & Zabeat!
|

Don't worry about Railings last year he got blocked that many times at the top of the straight he had no chance was one of the few you cou8ld have made an excuse for last year the other was the runner up On A Jeune who got the run that Railings was still trying to get after being held up for about 100m |
new to the forum,so here goes. PURDE, 80-1 tab fixed odds. only about 50th in order of entry but i reckon it is a great each way chance if it gets a run.Great run last week in the Winning Edge behind stablemate Growl.
|
The Japanese pair Pop Rock & Delta Blues are reportedly the best to come down to Oz from that country. Have been set for the big one with both racing today in Caulfield Cup as a lead-up race. I've already backed them both for the MC just in case either do well today (and the odds come in).

Glad I got in when I did! Pop Rock has firmed from 25/1 to 6/1 & Delta Blues from 40/1 to 7/1! Had them both ew yesterday - $32.50 for the place Delta Blues! thank you very much :) Delta Blues (3rd) didn't sprint with them when the runs started to come just before the turn but got going again & he went home well - it was a great Melbourne Cup run! Pop Rock (7th) didn't look to handle Caulfield all that well & will be better off at Flemington. Bring on the big one!! |
I just backed Activation ($5.00) and On A Jeune ($5.50) for the place on betfair, pretty good value i think. i also like Lad of the Manor $11.50 is nice in the cox plate
|
i've just had a look at the cc a few times and Pop Rock's run was very very good...i think it will really be suited by the 2 miles at Flemington and have taken $11.00 about it...delta blues at 12s looks ok too
|
im sticking with our smoking joe and doing a rain dance from now till the race jumps :P
might have the $20 ive bet with a bloke at work that osj will beat sphenophyta in the mc, on the new odds being offered. (sphenophyta wont run, its been sent for a spell for those that dont know) |
I'm sticking with 3 of the 4 i liked in the Caulfield Cup,Activation looks like it wont get the distance so its Tawqeet,Delat Blues and Pop Rock at this stage.
Yeats has to be respected and i liked the run of Jagger the other day, does anyone have an opinion on Jagger, could it be the bolter?. I really cant understand how anyone can consider Our Smoking Joe,it has had 45 starts and and has never won a group one,to think it can turn it around it the cup is laughable. The cup is almost always won by the classiest horse who has yet to reach its peak,OSJ has no chance. |
Wouldn't be surprised if connections have given up on Jagger tackling the MC. They were really counting on him winning the Winning Edge Stakes earlier this month (wasn't a bad run) and he'll likely get a penalty should he win a remaining lead-up race.

im not gunna argue the point with you guys about wether he will make the 3200 or not, but all im gunna say is, if your that sure he wont do it, then go lay it on betfair for me at 50-1. you can take my money off me if your that sure it wont get there :)
|
Tawqeet has received a 2kg penalty for winning the Caulfield Cup.
Will now carry 55.5kg in the Melbourne Cup. |
Bensley just said on Sky racing news that OSJ is out of the MC.
|
well that sucks!! damnit :D
|
Dizelle
I like the run of the Dizelle on the Weekend im looking forward to the MC now?

NO. Not a hope against rtw and el segundo. I think they have way to much turn of foot for him. Really didnt think he was any hope in the caulfield cup either. I thought he was looking for the 3200. I really liked his caulfield cup run, he was plugging on well in the finish and from what i saw was getting some ground back on A.D., and the check from Tawqeet cost him prob a length in the finish. If you watch the replay, and the above shot it really highlights that. Im not saying he was gunna catch A.D because he definitely wasnt, but he would have finished closer than the end result. Oh well, i guess back to the drawing board. HAHA thats racing tho isnt it. I know alot of ppl here didnt regard it any hope in the cup, but i guess its the case of if you like a horse noone can convince you to get off, if you hate it, you couldnt be convinced to get on. |
Just read this:
Monday, 23 October 2006: Sydney mare Aqua D'Amore will be there but Caulfield Cup failure Our Smoking Joe and the three-year-old Excites will be missing when the final field for the $3 million Tattersall's W.S. Cox Plate is declared on Tuesday morning. Lee Freedman today ruled out the Cox Plate for Our Smoking Joe but has nominated the stayer for Saturday's Cathay Pacific Cup following his sixth in the Caulfield Cup. |
Quote:
Thought more chance Cox than the Cup but the Cathay Pacific Cup probably a better option than the Cox. |
now they are reporting he is a definite starter as was said earlier with beadman aboard and is still definitely in the cup.
|
Are you sure HW?
Bensleys info is usually spot on. |
yeah i know it is go4it thats why i didnt question it. i saw the article on racing and sports.
the article origianlly said he wasnt goin to the cox plate but was still pushing to the mc, but then the owner called lee freedman back and said well run in both. |
Most surprised Nash Rawiller lost the ride on Delta Blues for the Melbourne Cup. Thought he rode that horse a treat in the Caulfield Cup!
|
Whats everyones Roughie for the MC cup? I did like Ice Chariot b4 it ran on Saturday and turned in a shocker!
|
Cheda,
think it's just the Japs wanting one of their own on it. |
Quote:
Being one that had 1st and 3rd in the quinella and Delta Blues each way i thought he cost it victory,he was 4 or 5 wide most of the trip and only pulled the whip when it was too late, the way the horse responded to the whip told me that if he went earlier after a cosier run it would have won by two lengths. Thats taking nothing way from Tawqeet,it has a brilliant turn of foot. |
Quote:
Did you take him in a CC-MC double roman? |
