I am going to try the Don scott ratings as they seem to work quite well sometimes.

I will use several rules:

There will be 3 Markets followed:

1. All Selections
2. Selections higher then the rating price
3. Selections with a rating at least twice the rating price.

I don't want to be negative but sometimes, not very often, "he" gets it very wrong. I've also laid some of his "unders" but without success.

As a matter of interest, when a horse is scratched his market is not adjusted.

I have to admit that I've never really focussed on his top selection. Hopefully today's very good results will continue and that it will prove successful.

I'll be following this thread with much interest as I've always been a fan of his.

Ricardo, yes. Im not going to work them out myself. :)

Wes, are they the final ratings as on the worksheet, or do you use some of your own thoughts ? IMHO I think that the condition penalty for first uppers can be a bit misleading. They penalise them 6 kilos which I think gives some very false ratings on occasions. I have finished trying to work out a neurals method as it is just to hard to come up with something consistent, and have now moved back to the more traditional weight ratings. I'm going to try and post some past results using the don scott ratings but with my own style applied.

call me a sceptical ************ but i think that web site that gives you those neural thingies is flawed ,,,i must admit i thought for a while there that neurals were a good thing but i have now seen the light?? why would they give something away for free .... my guess is in this game you dont give an edge away free therefore dont bother with them you will allways lose in the end i think.there fore iam ty..

find it too hard to keep data, well accessing data actually. cant go further back than a week or so.

These ratings seem to work better mid week then weekends.

6 kilos is not accurate to apply across the board, some horses are better first up than others.

As far as the ratings go on the aap site, I've found it best just to ignore all the bonuses and penalties and just go with the base run figure.

even if their system worked for a fine, over time it's probably going to lose as more punters would be using it and without good prices any system is doomed!

those R&s guys have a powerful database but they seem to tip a lot of losers. maybe they incorporate too much info in their analysis.

The old KISS principle is best

some horses fly first up and shouldnt be penalised at all. they should be given a bonus if anything.

horses need to be rated individual on runs which close match todays contest.

so if a horse is firstup rate it on it's last 1 or 2 first up runs.
