Tab dividends

How good is this? In all of yesterdays racing there were 19 money back place dividends paid on Unitab. There were also 2 dead heats for places that paid money back but that is to be expected. So in all, punters had no chance of winning in 19 races on certain place investments. Someone once said to me that "if you can't win you can't lose". Doesn't seem to apply to Tabs

think it might be hong kong where they guarantee a minimun divy, equiv if $1.05 or so, absolutley no excuse for that not to be the case here

Beagle 2nd May 2007 12:39 PM

I don't bet for a place but as there seems to be string of place betting topics on the forum of late I thought it fitting to mention the poor dividends paid out by Unitab. Hope nobody is placing their bets with them.

Vic. TAB pays the best overall.

Bhagwan 3rd May 2007 12:34 AM

I was told by someone that Spotsbet was the best place for place betting.

$1 min bets

Can't be bothered working it out on those 19 that Beagle was talking about, but it very often happens that when one tab pays money back or 1.04, another tab pays 1.30, 1.50, so surely you have to bet at BEST TOTE (Sportsbet)

Merriguy 3rd May 2007 10:55 AM

But Sportsbet only offer that on Metropolitan meetings!

partypooper 3rd May 2007 01:45 PM

Merryguy, that's true , for Country meets it's still best of NSW & Supertab, chances are that the highest of the two will beat Unitab, or at least be better over time.

Another approach though, is to bet half of the stake at Unitab and half at Country best (NSW/Supertab) that way you always have AT LEAST half your stake on the highest payer and sometimes all your stake and sometimes equal.

Find a few decent longshots to back for the place. You'll go broke on all this $1 plus a few cents business!

partypooper 3rd May 2007 05:00 PM

Crash, maybe, but a 20-1 shot finishing 7th doesnt' pay a divi, by the very nature of things 20-1 shots will win one race in about 25 or 30, and place somewhere around one in 10 or so (don't have the exact figures around) so not much point getting a $5 divi is it?

Hee hee, keep yer pants on Crash, just stirring!! hahah!

crash 3rd May 2007 06:28 PM

Simple, pick the winning/placing longshots only!

partypooper 3rd May 2007 11:13 PM

Shucks, didn't realise it was THAT easy!!!!! hahahah!

partypooper 4th May 2007 10:31 AM

On the question of Best Tote, a valid point sent to me by e-mail is that if you place 2/3 of your bet at Country Best (= best of NSW/Supertab) and 1/3 at Unitab then you will ALWAYS beat the average of the three......

exacta betting

if there is 10 horses in the race and for example and you wanted to bet $14 , you could for example bet $4 a win and $10 a place or you could bet your selection at $4.50 a win and take your selection with an exacta - the field first and your selection for second, cost $9.50, now if your selection comes
second instead of first , i have struck some amazing dividends. often an outsider comes in first , and even if the second placegetter is only around the $2 mark the exacta return can be very high . if you pick the right races and the second placegetter is paying much lower price than the winner, the returns can be extra good , a few weeks ago in a 7 field trot race ,where the second placegetter was in the market, the exacta paid over $400 while the quinella paid only $19 so if you are good at picking second placegetters, I believe the exacta offers the better bet over place bets.just about every race day my selections get home second and the exactas have paid between $200 and $1,5OO.The exactas offers no value when the the lowest priced horse gets home first. how many times have you seem a short priced favorite get beaten on-the -line by a real outsider.? often in maidens with first starters.

partypooper 6th May 2007 10:39 PM

Well there is no law against having half your stake exacta a,b, and then have half your stake b,a. PS when I've tried it I've never backed so many 3rds in my life!!!! hahahah!
