The Race
The straight course at Ascot underwent complete reconstruction ahead of the course’s reopening in 2006. Ascot now has an uninterrupted straight mile course following the elimination of the road crossing and a completely new drainage system has been integrated. The King’s Stand Stakes is run on the final 1200m (last 1000m) of the straight mile, with the course rising gradually throughout from the start to the winning post.

G'day pharfromoz :) being northern hemisphere located, any thoughts on non Oz horses, anything from the states nominated?
|
Benbaun (IRE) - just beat by Takeover Target in last years race..,,runner-up or winner all 4 starts since including a first-up win over 1200m at the Curragh late last month..,,has to be a top chance this year
|
Dazed and Amazed has done little most recent starts..,,still to recapture his early age form..,,at $7 happy to risk
|
Quote:
If you fancy Benbaun then you'd have to give Desert Lord a chance! A real speed machine over the 5 furlongs. Just pipped by Benbaun when last they met. |
...one of my bets last year was Tax Free..was up with them for the 1st 700/800 but slowly dropped off to be beatan about 5 lens..won 5 races since so perhaps better than that run..got 15/1 last year (from memory) 6/1 currently not very attractive..if he drifts a bit might have a saver
|
would be great to see the aussies finishing 1,2,3,4 :D
could happen! |

Would be VERY nice ;) |

Trainer Mark Wallace believes Benbaun to be a better horse than last year. Contemplating running Benaun in both the King's Stand Stakes & the Golden Jubilee Stakes. |

Didnt get beaten far last year & getting back to form following a spell |
All aussies gallopers reported fit & well. Trainer Joe Janiak reckons Takeover Target is in better condition that he was going into the race last year. Lee Freedman has indicated that Takeover Target is the one he is most worried about. Gai Waterhouse has stated she feels certain Bentley Biscuit will be a stronger chance in the Golden Jubilee Stakes than the King’s Stand Stakes.

Rumour floating around that all is not right with Miss Andretti. Hope it's just a rumour!

Lee Freedman has moved to dispel rumours doing the rounds in Australia that all is not well with his star sprinter Miss Andretti. There had been reports that the mare had a poor blood count, but Freedman has set the record straight and revealed she simply had a low potassium level - an issue which has been rectified. |
Bit of rain around Royal Ascot which will only enhance the chances of Bentley Biscuit and Magnus. Of the fancied locals Dandy Man, Benbaun and Pivotal Point have all drawn well.

Hi mad. Just spotted your newly created (Royal) Ascot thread. Good luck with your selections tonight / tomorrow morning. What do you fancy in the Kings Stand?.
|
Hi SPORTZFAN, and thanks for the well wishes's. I'm still debating which way to go to be honest. I'm not a big fan of the "hype" horses, but in Miss Andretti's case it not all hype as she is quite deserving of the praise she receives. That's putting me off her a little. Similarly it's difficult to judge if all the travel and strange evirons will have an effect and then you have to include the fact that she'll be up against TT and Bentley. Tough one...
Certainly open to suggestions from others. Hows about you, any thoughts? Just watched Benbauns last run at the Curragh in Ireland. Wasn't blown away but the i-r-i-s-h conditions might have played a role. He'll prob win now, LOL. |
Go the fighting tigress!
|
I have been trying to work out some of the english form over the last day or so and I must say they are a very close bunch of horses in this race, The aussies might prove to good but they have to settle in and handle the conditions these pommy horses already do that I'll be back later with some tips as I simply haven't finished going over the form yet.
