I usually back them to "take out" a certain amount using my price (if shorter than Tote) or Tote Odds (if VV, but don't usually take what I consider to be under the odds).

To arrive at the nr. of units to bet I simply divide the amount I want to "take out" i.e. collect, I just divide the takeout figure by the expected dividend.
For example, if I want to take out $12.50 and the ****. divvy is $3.90, my stake would be $3.20, or $3 when round to the nearest 5o cents.

The take out figure is winnings & stake.

Eagle farm Race 1.

Our only (equal) top pick, Yass River, which won on the day, & it was @ odds on, whereas we rated it a $2.40 chance.No quinella or Trifecta joy either as the second horse rated 7th.

Randwick Race 2

Our top pick Ausbred King only managed 3rd. but paid evens the place ($2) so was good each way value as we rated it a 6/4 chance.

Morphetville Race 2

The winner rated rock bottom by us so no joy again. 2 of our tips filled the placings.

Morphetville Race 3

Our 3rd pick Londo won @ $4.20 and top pick ran 2nd. Quinella paid a skinny $7.50. As a matter of interest my top rated 4 filled the "First Four" placings paying $368.00

Moonee Valley race 4

Our best 3 (nrs. 1,6,3) ran 3rd, 4th. & 2nd respectively, with the winner (2) rated 5th. Quinella a more respectable $12.80, and the "First Four" paying $325.70.

Moonee Valley Race 5

Our top pick (3) ran 3rd and we found the quinella, only $8.70 but something anyway, and believe it or not the "First Four" were rated by us in 2-5-1 & 3rd. positions, in other words in the top 5, & paid $187.50.

Eagle Farm Race 6

Didn't have the winner in our post but it was rated 5th., and 2nd, 3rd, & 4th places were filled by our 1st, 3rd, & 4th selections respectively, in other words, another "First Four" in our 5 top rated horses. This time it paid $594.00.

Eagle Farm Race 8

Found the quinella which paid $25. No "First Four" this time though, our top pick ran out of a place.

Moonee Valley Race 8.

A complete wash out this one, not finding a placed horse in our top 5. Mares races can be like that.

Caulfield race 4

Our 2nd rated horse won & the two we gave the "***" winning chance filled the quinella $22.80 and the trifecta $205.90, so off to a good start.

Caulfield Race 5

Our top two were the only ones we rated as having a winning chance and couldn't run a place between them. The winner rated in 4th. place and paid $15.10.

Morphetville Race 4

Much better result here with our top rater winning @ $3.50 (our price $2.60), the quinella paying $13.20, the trifecta paying $149.40, and would you believe the 4 we gave a winning chance filled the "First 4" paying $647.co.

Caulfield Race 8

We had Haradasun on it's own to win, but going down to a horse like Miss Finland was no disgrace. No value in the quinella, and missed the Tri.

Caulfield Race 9

With the late scratching of Let's Go Thommo ( Our Top Rater ) the amended ratings ( posted to this blog only ) bought in Here de Angels as top rater & now a winning chance, as well as Ticklish, Gold Edition, and Devil Inside, so our top rater won @ $4.20 and our 3rd. pick ran 2nd, the quinella again being no value.

I don't have to tell you that EI has the gallops in turmoil at the moment so it may pay to cuddle your bank and wait fot the Spring Carnival.

Eagle Farm Race 2.

A good start, finding the winner with our top rater Malta which paid $2.70, our price was $1.70, so a nice result. Dipped out on the Quinella & Tri, pretty sad in a 6 horse race !

Morphetville Race 2.

The good start continued in this, with our top 3 finishing in rated order. The winner paid $2.80, not bad seeing we rated it a 1/10 chance. Quinella paid a skinny $5.40, exacta $8.60, and the trifecta $22.30. As a matter of interest, the horse we rated 5th. ran into 4th. place and the "First 4" $78.20.

Newcastle Race 6.

Our 3rd. rater won paying evens, well under our price. No good for the quinella or trifecta either.

Moonee Valley race 6.

Quinella with our 2nd rated horse (El Segundo) pipping our top rater (Haradasun) and the quinella paid $1.90, less than the winner paid for first, so no value there. There was nothing between them & it could have gone either way, and isn't that what Spring racing is all about?

Moonee Valley Race 7

Our 2nd rater ( and *** ) won paying $2.70, but we missed the Quinella & Trifecta.

Moonee Valley Race 8.

Our top rater Devil Moon won and was $1.40 over our assessed price paying $3.70.
Good result.

Morphetville Race 7.

Right on the money here, with our 3 top horse finishing in that order, giving us the winner paying $2.80 (assessed at $1.80), the quinella $20.60, exacta $41.70, & the trifecta $145.10

Eagle Farm Race 9

Our 3rd. rater (but not ***) Stage Shaker won paying $10.90 and we found the quinella which paid a handy $30.20.

Moonee Valley Race 9.

Best we could do here was 2nd with one of 3 *** chances, but no luck with the quinella.

got it last week with picks rated 3rd-1st-1st-2nd. Suggest take the top 3 raters in each leg plus any "winning chances *** " if they rate lower than 3rd. this would give us

Hope a few of you got something out of the "Fat Quaddie" as tipped yesterday. The 4 winners were rated 2nd-1st-2nd-1st and paid $1094.30 on Vic TAB.

Hi, Gerry.

I've just now read your posting "Fair Go Vic Tab" - that's unbelievable!!! How could they justify it??? It makes one think that it is not improbable that Vic Tab might have other "stuff the customer" rules.

As a matter of interest, the Quaddie paid a whopping $10,700 here in NSW (I had 1% of it). The big difference I presume was that Master O'Reilly was the sub in Vic whilst Maybe Better was the sub here. So if Maybe Better had won then the Vic and NSW divvy would probably have been reversed. I also wonder if the pools had been combined as they most likely will sooner or later be, then which horse would've started as the sub? As it is, I'm certainly not complaining.

In my email to "The Desperates" i.e. those mates of mine who are addicted to the punt, I suggested that "the quaddie should pay well today".

Paid almost $1.2 million ( or $1.2 miyyon if you're name is Eddie McGuire ) so either only 2 live units, but more likely heaps of flexi bet takers.

Hope you were among them !

Not a bad result for ratings on the day with Zavite ( rated $8.40, paid $13.60 ) & Montechoro ( rated $8.30, paid $21.20 ) saluting at good odds plus the hot pops Extend & Miss Andretti both winning & paying over the rated odds meant a return of 38.3 units on an outlay of 17 units ( 1 unit on each " *** winning chance" ) or a profit on turnover of 125%.
