My horse placed and I didn't get paid?

Just looking at R4 at Canterbury:

This doesn't make sense?

darkydog2002 27th June 2007 03:14 PM

They only pay for 1st .2nd on races with less than 8 horses.

Cheers.
darky.

westman 27th June 2007 03:15 PM

Beat me darkydog2002, yep only 7 starters!

Since there were fewer than 8 runners this event didn't pay 3rd placings.

You placed a wager for "Place" where places were limited to first and second only, live and learn.

Bon 27th June 2007 03:18 PM

Ah !@#$, I didn't know that. Thanks!

I never said it did, if you don't believe me read my post below....perhaps you are delusional -there is supposed to be a laughing icon here but this is something I am still learning, can't figure out how to do that_
Welcome to the world of punters.....isn't there a particular American expression you use for such occassions....what was it now....OHHH, that's right....DUH!
As I said, Live and learn!

Bon 27th June 2007 03:47 PM

lol, nice edit job mate ;)

But yeah, live & learn! I'm only using small money, I don't expect to have anything going that can consistently make me money until around 18 months or so - that's been my time frame with the market and mixed martial arts, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer with the horses.

The reason I use money instead of paper trading is because nothiing hurts more than losing money!

crash 27th June 2007 04:10 PM

Only 18mths. to start making a profit. Piece of cake.

Boy, you gotta love an optimist! lol. lol :-))

There is an exception Darky:

When a race originally has 8 runners but is reduced to 7 with a late scratching. In this case a place dividend will still be paid for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

diogenes 27th June 2007 06:05 PM

Yup. Delusional.
Welcome to the world of punters, I do believe you have found a home...lol

Bon 27th June 2007 06:18 PM

I'm not interested in losing money. If I find that's the case, then I'll pull the pin and stick to my MMA & the market. Simple as that.

crash 27th June 2007 07:32 PM

Bon,

Most of the punters here have been at it for more than 18mths. Many more than 18yrs. How many of them do you think make a profit and they [most]are by no means slow witted people? About 5% profit makers would be a big call.

They do love the game though and if you don't and aren't prepared to put in a lot of very hard yards, you have no chance whatsoever. There is no easy money to be made in Racing.

Usurper 27th June 2007 10:04 PM

With regard to the Late Scratching and No Third Div, mentioned earlier --- what defines a late scratching? Anything after the initial declarations in the morning? 5 mins before the race?

Good to know a Late Scratch will still pay 3rd Div though, useful, cheers.

partypooper 27th June 2007 11:51 PM

Crash, another anomaly, I had a bet once for a place 5 runners (i.e. 1st & 2nd) there was 2 late scratchings, my horse finished 3rd, and they ( I won't say who) counted my bet as a loser. "OFFICIALLY "TWO PLACE DIVIES WERE RETURNED"

After reading their rules, they stated that any less than 5 runners, that all bets for the place were VOID, now; as I'd had $500 for the place I pursued this rule, and was duly re-embursed the $500 PLUS a free $50 bet because of their mistake!!

I was exstactic, and it cemented my account with Sp, ah, you'll have to guess!

crash 28th June 2007 07:18 AM

Party,

The last time I saw an SP bookie [operating out of his boot] , was up in Dampier when I was working at the mines up there back in the early 70's.

Yeah, I was with that Sp.... mob for awhile. They have a bit of a bad rep. for cutting off accounts apparently.

Userper,

A late scratching is any scratching announced after official scratchings. Usually at the barrier though.

Ade 28th June 2007 06:32 PM

is there any online betting calculator that can calculate the bet cost/value of each bet?

for example, if i was to have a trifecta consisting of 2,4,3,5/4,3,5,6,7/4,3,5,6,7,8

is there a calculator I can use to help me calculate the cost?

downbylaw 28th June 2007 06:38 PM

Use a calculator duh!

Ade 28th June 2007 06:40 PM

whats the formula?

downbylaw 28th June 2007 07:02 PM

C2+b1=(d3* blah blah blah)

4 horses x 4 horses x 4 horses = 64 horses etc etc.

Under my selections, it will cost me $120, right?

4*5*6 = 120

Ricardo8 28th June 2007 09:36 PM

Ricardo8 28th June 2007 09:37 PM

I think scratching time is 0830 local... anything after that is a late scratching..

As an aside.. I think betfair will pay 3 place divs provided the original field was 8 or greater... I think all the way down to 4 runners... I may be wrong, but that is how I interpret their rules..

Cheers
