Gambling is a sin

Is anyone on here a professional punter or claim to be?

crash 7th September 2007 07:20 AM

You mean there are members here who are NOT profitable professionals? Knock me down with a feather!

partypooper 7th September 2007 11:10 AM

Ark, Ark, aspiring maybe! but if you mean is there anyone here making money out of "Horse Racing" (as against punting) YES there is/are.

wesmip1 7th September 2007 11:20 AM

I am not professional ( in that not the majority of my income comes from it) but I do ok from it ....

AngryPixie 7th September 2007 11:39 AM

Winners are Sinners!!

:D :D

partypooper 7th September 2007 12:12 PM

"Horse Race Investors" (hee hee) tend to be a bit on the supersticious side, if ever we post a selection as a certainty, it falls over, or the jockey falls off, if ever we miss a bet it ALWAYS wins, if we just get on in time it ALWAYS gets beat, when we back the wrong horse by mistake it gets beat and the right one wins, if we manage to cancell the bet in time the wrong one wins and the right one gets beat, if ever we post that we've just backed 6 winners, the next TEN get beat, etc etc, so it's unlikely that you will get anyone to admit that they are a professional, as they are that only as long as they are "right"

crash 7th September 2007 12:24 PM

Most punters are far too lazy ever to make it to pro. status, This writer included!

wesmip1 7th September 2007 12:45 PM

crash makes a good point ...

The majority of people that excel in any profession ( whether it be investing, gambling, cooking or ****** poop scooper) are those that have a fanatiscm with the profession. It is these people who spend 12+ hours a day looking at form, going through their bets, checking the stats, running the odd lines, etc to increase their skill level.

But there are also those who are "smart" and just find a profitable way and stick to it but I find most of these people don't stick to it because they haven't developed the method or understand the logic behind it. It is these people who go running at the first few losses and complain bitterly.

Good luck.

i could never be a professional punter.......i enjoy it too much.......im one of those punters whose in it for the adrenaline. i love watching my horse race neck and neck with another and losing by a nose. the adrenaline is amazing. i prefer to see my horse in a neck and neck finish or three lengths off the leader with a furlong to go than in front by 5 with a furlong to go......... im one of those punters who when he sits down to play the pokies wants to be sitting there for a half hour to lose his money. if i hit the jackpot in the first 2 mins and quad my money im not happy cause the adrenaline at maybe losing my money hasnt happened. obviously money matters and it makes life and everything that comes with it a lot easier but...... as dumb as this sounds....... winning gets boring.......if anyone understands my psych analysis of my punting let me know.

AngryPixie 7th September 2007 04:25 PM

So where's the sin bit come in? That what I'm in it for.

partypooper 7th September 2007 05:12 PM

I've read somewhere that "gamblers" secretly LIKE to lose, never quite got my head around that as I hate to lose, I incorporate all kinds of safety measures in my investing to be as sure as I can that will not lose (in the long run) my plans do spread wide and over a long period.

Gotta admit though that I did enjoy some septacular wins when I was betting merely from the gut (many years ago) most noteable was a horse called Spy Net, which I'd backed at incredible odds (after a tip off ) to win the Champion Hurdle, it led til the last but got beat by Lanzarotte, It came out a few weeks later weighed down with what I put on it, backed from double figures to finish 11-2 AND WON!

Sorry! reminiscing again.......

crash 7th September 2007 05:39 PM

Ahhh, memory lane. We remember our big wins and forget our loses in days long past. A bit like our successes with women!

partypooper 7th September 2007 06:21 PM

Well, I try and forget the losses, but there is a few tales for the "pub" you know the if only ones hahahah! as far as Spy Net was concerned I ended up about even.

By the way what about this sinning? of course we all have to do some sinning in order to get saved! right?.... now, when it comes to "Fillies".... nah, better not!

ijuandaQLD 7th September 2007 11:13 PM

i think that all gamblers hate to lose and its not the fact of losing its the adrenaline that losing produces......i remember the other night i was sweating it out on a ****** race. i was at the pub having a play around and a mates ****** was in. i had 50 on it and i had a trifecta 10 times standing it out from two other runners......the ****** won....it started equal favourite at 6/4ish and was in a head bobber with the other fave but got its nose down on the line.....the other ****** i threw in the trifecta got beat a nose for third but the photo finish for third went on for what seemed like 10 mins and the whole time my adrenaline was pumping......obviously i was furious when the result came through but the adrenaline was unbelievable.
