Caulfield Guineas Day

Fields are up the Saturdays racing. Looks like there are going to be a few short priced runners in the big ones.

One first look I think that Sonic Quest looks the one in race 2.I think he must win this if he is to live up the wraps that have been put on him.

Gold Edition must be a special in the Schillaci. The only problem being that you will have to take the $1.6 (thats for as long as that price lasts).

The Yulumba is pretty shallow. Miss Finland will be short, has already been bakced $1.6 into $1.55. I think she should win but the price is a bit short to back staight out for me.

Toorak looks an interesting race. I think i'll stick with Bon Hoffa here, he hsa been good to me so far. The obvious danger is Divine Madonna. She will be flying home and she gets in reasonably at the weights. One to watch for is Wonderful World, goes very well at the track and Bart will have her in top shape.

The Guineas, well what more can you say other that Weekend Hussler. Should win but you have to be prepared to step into the shorts.

I think the Winning Edge is the race for Master O'rilley to prove he is up to the cups. The worry here is the lack of pace and getting too far back. Don't think this will stop him though. The price again is the worry.

The best option for the day will be to have these shorties in multi bets. I will probably back gold edition straight out though, can't resist (have always loved this horse).

Will post more as I go through the form.

Post your thoughts on this meeting.

whats the rain gonna do..has it started and will the track be down graded
bon hoffa's trainer says she'll probably scratch if track rain affected $3.20 on fixed at mo
Divine $3.80
WW $6
What about the other shorties..What's MF like in the wet..Rubiscent goes well as does maldivian
GE doesn't mind it

These factors will be important as will resultant track bias..just look at Flemington last Sat
Cheers

Only light rain so far tonight. Caulfield staff said their radar only showed light rain between now and Saturday while the BOM has forcast thunderstorms and hail tomorrow. So staff at Caulfield have irrigated teh track today applying 6mm. This could be very important if that forcast rain does come then I would say we would be racing on a slow track.

Real Deal 12th October 2007 01:28 PM

i live within 10 mins of the course and can confirm it was 2 good solid downpours this morning.

Both bought about decent rainfall.

I would suspect a dead 5 or 6 to start day and upgrade if no more rain.

PS. Wonderful World lined my pockets last year-can he do it again?

jefff_12 12th October 2007 02:16 PM

There was some solid rainfalls this morining. However as I speak there is now sunshine (has been for the past few hours), and also a nice drying breeze. It will depend on the rain over night.

Definetly think that Wonderful World is a good chance. Word is that he has been working well during the week. Goes well at Caulfield and Bart is sure to have him flying.

Incumbent looks too good in the first. All the others are desperetly out of form.

I am begining to think that Sonic Quest is one of the best on the program if not the best. Should do well if you multi up the first two selections.

If you are greedy like me combine these with Gold Edition. If you are even more greedy, like me, also consider adding into the multi Master O'Rielly. You may also like to consider Miss Finland for the multis however I don't think she is a good bet tomorrow. Although I am not brave enough to back against her she is at $1.60 and was beaten fair and square last start by Rubisent last start. There isnt alot of pace in this race so I think that Maldivian is a big show. If you can get closer to $4.5 it might be worth considering.

In the last we have your typical mares race (wide open). Only good thing about these races is that you can get a good price, that is if you can pick the winner. Laura's Charm goes well at the track and at the distance and Freedman is happy with her. If you are taking a quaddie make sure you take the field here.

crash 12th October 2007 02:54 PM

Can't see a good track.

Weekend Hussler's price in the Guineas will be a joke considering his wins were in weak Hcp. races. Takes on some Group race toughies tomorrow like Husson Lightning and Shrewd Rhythm [Scenic Blast needs a paddock]. WH is certainly on the up and who knows, but at those odds?

Devine Madonna in the Toorak would be my bet but the horse hates the track. Bon Hoffa to get rolled by Niconero or Wonderful World.

Master O'reilly in the the 8th would be the lay of the day. It's looked good against joggers. Reggie, Dolphin Joe or Cancellelle will be all over it!

maverick1993 12th October 2007 05:37 PM

I'm banking on Divine Madonna to break the hoodoo tomorrow,,,the smaller field helps her and she doesnt run badly at the track,,i also think Rodd would have worked her out by now,,,(personally i'd rather Dunn on board) shes well weighted and a big show..I've taken the 4.20 ,,and if she blows out from that i'll have some more,,

Master Orielly gets the speed in this race he needs,,heard that Tacit agreement horse will be bowling along up front to try and sneak into the money so he can start in the CC..
I think the horse is flying and a great MC chance,,,2.50 ias was nice overs i thought for tomorrow..
Cancanelle is another thats just flying without mmuch luck,,,distance ??? but at the 15's i'm having something on..

Sonic Quest is going along nicely but with this rain about i thought Amery king could race well ,,,gets some weight off Sonic tomorrow and the extra 200m will help aswell..i couldnt resist the 12's,,

Goldie should win this and easily..cant have her at 1.70 though,,to short for me..
i'm having alitle e/w on Reshuffles and maybe a exacta with these 2..

Miss Finland 1.80 on Betstar...nice overs i thought..i have her rated at 1.40,,,
she lost last time but it was still a massive run..she was racing the donkey on her inside and instead of just winning the race,,you can bet that wont happen again..i cant bring myself to back them this short though..

Weekend Hussler...look i cant find anything to beat him and i've tried my best...i know this horse has yet to prove himself but hes winning very nicely and running time..i thought Husson lightning's run last week was the run of the day but 1600m ?? Shrewd Rythm ?? Davcon ?? i'm of the belief that most of these are fairly even,,except for Weekend Hussler who looks like he could be a star ....i wont back him at those odds but ill be having a go at the massive 1st4 thats on offer instead...

I'm really confident about Lauras Charm tomorrow,,,shes a class act and at the 8's i think shes way way overs...loves the track n distance good jock trainer, barrier ,,won 1stup, proven group performer, ,,heaps of ticks,,

A few others i'm looking at tomorrow
Cheltam
Gandini, Arinos
Belmont
Field Commander
Grafton
Sircolo
Townsville
Dont tell tom

still some work to do tonight..but it looks a good day tomorrow,,
Good Luck all :)

Horse Whisperer 12th October 2007 06:06 PM

Loks like its going to be a great days racing tomorrow, but im probably not going to have many bets, the only one i think is a certainty is Gold Edition, and i thought $1.65 was excellent odds. I guess well find out tomorrow. I would definitely rather take the $1.65on g.e than the odds for weekend hussler or miss finland.
The Toork looks to be a great race, wonderful world looks the big improver, and Niconero will be in the top 3 with it. The rain has to help Dr NipandTuck, and you cant rule out Divine Madonna and Bon Hoffa. What a great race.
Ill have an e/w bet on marching, as ive done so each start this prep and just seems to be so consistant, the widish barrier is a worry but ill still have a small bet.
Only other one for the day is a roughie in the last, Goldfield ashes. Have followed this horse for a while, was a bit dissapointed with the barrier, but at those odds its worth a gamble.

Good luck everyone

jefff_12 12th October 2007 06:44 PM

Where is the 8's on Laura's Charm?

maverick1993 12th October 2007 06:54 PM

you'd have missed the 8's now..but 7's Ias and Betstar if your quick,,,

forgot about Chinchilla Rose 5's tomorrow,,,this horse will be ridden back after the last start brain explosion by the trainer...
Stathi is confident and the horse should be to good for these,,,i also think little Arrow 13's will race well ,,she'll be up on the pace and will have every chance,,..i'll have to be on both..

AngryPixie 12th October 2007 07:52 PM

CAUL03-06 Belcentra

jefff_12 12th October 2007 07:57 PM

I agree with you Pixie. Think Freedman should train the first 3 winners on the program. Take a multi with these 3 i think. Then all that into Gold Edition, I can't see how she can be beaten.

The worry for Balcentra will be Chinchilla Rose. She will be riden better this time and will be right in it.

Chuck 12th October 2007 09:00 PM

great day of racing tomorrow

leaving the first 2 alone

race 3- Belcentra big chance, doubt a price. been super impressive but hasnt beaten that much. Downhill Racer was good first up, likes the distance is a hope if it can overcome the barrier. Press the Button i think a value chance, 1 from 1 2nd up, is capable and could surprise.

race 4- if Gold Edition tries then she wins, clearly the best horse. i think the danger is Royal Asscher, loves caulfield, two wins at the distance and has potential for an upset

race 5- miss finland

race 6- three main chances, i live Divine Madonna a lot here, great two runs this prep and is my bet of the day. bon hodda will obviously be thereabouts and if its wet Niconero a big chance

race 7- couldnt go near weekend hussler at that price, i dont even have it on top. such a big class rise, i'm confident it will get rolled. chances to beat it Shrewd Rhythm with the blinkers, Marching has been very consistent, Davcon impressive last start and Pit Lane if its wet

race 8- hard to go past Master O'Reilly, this will show if hes up to cups standard. chance for the upset is cancanelle

Matilda 12th October 2007 11:42 PM

I like Divine madonna and Sonic Quest with Gold Edition and Miss Finland.
On the risk is barbaricus in the Guineas.

rabbitz 13th October 2007 05:16 AM

corey brown for the jockeys challenge at 6.50
gold edition should win but imo it has been totally flogged and if youve got the time you'll see it averages one start every 15.5 days throughout its career
weekend hussler certainly has run some time so he'll either blow em away or miss the place..don't mind husson lightning or barbaricus
miss finland is working well so they say but i think its time for maybe better to step up
am prepared to lay bon hoffa due to wet track and thought wonderful world, niconero and dr nip could be good
chinchilla rose was great first up but like little arrow
sonis quest will be short but am prepared to pot it for value thought archie senior and amerryking

best
wonderful world
little arrow
archie senior

good luck lads..hope one of you can catch me in the punting comp lol

DEAD A few showers. (Max: 17) Rail: Rail in True Position. (Pent: 5.13). Dead (4).

I'm going to bet against the shorties today as there is enough argument against them to take them on. The odds available for the other horses will be great!

Divine Madonna needs a 'good' track and a fast pace. Gets neither today and has managed 1 lousy 3rd. from 3 starts here.

Gold Edition has lost both starts at this track and is coming back from 1200m to 1000m which is never a good move. Will probably win but with the pace on don't be surprised to see Let Go Thommo [got left flat-footed last start with no pace] come out of nowhere from the rear to win.

I'd agree with Mav. that Weekend Hussler is a potential star, but jumping from Hcp. straight up to G1 at odds-on? I'll take the odds for Hussain Lightning and Shrewd Rhythm.

Miss Finland might not like the dead [untried] and has yet to win a G1 WFA. Probably win this but is a risk at ridiculous odds against Maldevian [loves a dead track].

Just Momente or Imagining [back to mares class] for the last.

Spartacus 13th October 2007 10:36 AM

Little Arrow showed a bit last time in

Gold Edition not a Caulfield lover and from that gate I'll be backing something to beat her - maybe Masked Assassin although the other two girls have claims

Maldivian is getting better and better - i think he can win this

Bon Hoffa is a superstar - he'll win

Weekend Hussler has to be the biggest pot of the day imo
What's he beaten? Court Command won the Golden Rose and was longer odds than him - still think their a few nice horses in it
Marching looks a big chance and others with claims - Cecconi, Pillar of Hercules & the roughie Kinugawa

crash 13th October 2007 02:49 PM

Gee, didn't Maldavian make MF look ordinary [her in the kitchen backed it]?

Picked up an e/w on Gamble me $19.40w $5.30p, and an e/w place collect on Let Go Thommo. Got the small tri too [crappy]. Stupidly left out Devine Madonna from a first 4 [had 3] as I was convinced she hated the track. What a horse!

crash 13th October 2007 03:07 PM

Weekend Hussler, what a champion! From a Sat. Handicapper to the G1 Guineas. Didn't back it at the shorts but I think we have just seen the Cox winner if he goes in.

rabbitz 13th October 2007 06:51 PM

hussler was jogging and should be in the cox..why spell now? emirates ,Oh please
maldivian looked good
goldie found another gear when pestered
master o'reilly did enuf

maverick1993 13th October 2007 06:52 PM

havent seen the replays yet but very happpy with Divine Madonna and Master Orielly,,,good to see that Goldie got up ..

nice collects on both of these but struck out with
Amerryking, Chinchilla Rose, Lauras CHarm , Dont Tell tom , Field Commander and Arinos ..

No great exotic collects either to help me out,,,missed Scenic Shot for 2nd,,

So a losing day after all but not alot...i'll live to fight another day..

Liking Emerald Jack tomorrow at 5.50 in the Cranny Cup...

Hope you all had a good one :)

maverick1993 14th October 2007 03:32 PM

woohooo Emerald Jack,,,turns out to be a very nice weekend now :)
great ride by Ollie ..
dam el pretneder killed my 1st 4..but nice value for the tri..

crash 14th October 2007 04:26 PM

Go Emerald Jack! Zoe picked it for the win and I boxed last year's winner with him and the fav. [didn't even place and probably flogged itself to death against Maldivian last start] for the quin $18.90
Nice one :-))

diogenes 15th October 2007 04:14 PM

G'day
Haven't been around for a while.
Great day Caulfield, not my most profitable ever but most thrilling as my strike rate skyrocketed for once.
Started out real ugly:
Large Win wager Incumbent/Loss
Ditto Sonic Quest
Huge Place bet Valedictum (All blood drained from my body on that run, left perfect pozzie on rails just as it opened up and came in a great 4th)

Chickened out and went small on Gamble Me (Always the way eh?) Win @ $20

Big Quinnie Goldy+ Royal Asscher

Big Win Maldivian
Medium wager Divine Maddona Win

Big Win @ long odds fixed on W/E Hussler

Medium wager Exacta Master O'Rielly/Zavite

Huge Win wager Storm Signal-- my pick certainty of the day!

I've never had a day like it, a real first for me.
Hope it isn't the last lol

diogenes 16th October 2007 11:54 AM

I seriously doubt they will enter W/E Hussler in the Cox.
That really is a race you have to set for, not just toss it in as it shows ability.
You risk a big future by doing that , but with the best stats over 26 years of racing you can be sure it will be entered in something appropriate soon.
This is a horse that will strip money from hardened disbelievers by the bucketful.
