The end has come

Well guys

I have decided to call the punting game quits for no real reason other than the money which was used for punting will going towards saving for a deposit on a house and paying off the new car out the front. It has been fun the last few years around I have met alot of good people on here and it is a sad day but these things happen you can't carry on like an 18yo all your life and sacrifices have to be made and Punting was the 1st one on my list, I'll still poke my head in here occassionally atleast for the next week with a fixed odds bet on Efficient in the Cox Plate which is still alive, Plus I will put in my selections for Sportz comp until it is finished aswell after that I will be retired from the game pretty much completely.

For the guys I have had such a good time with over the years thanks again especially to Sportz for all the time he puts into those comps he runs I do not know how he does it but well done mate.

To Magivor I have always felt bad about that disagreement we had over the QLD Derby this year I apologise for that I really am sorry.

Well guys thanks and good luck on the punt.

Good Luck in the future .

ijuandaQLD 21st October 2007 03:33 PM

yeah we'll miss ya raw. i hope its a big house with a spare bedroom 4 me.

Sportz 21st October 2007 03:48 PM

No worries, mate. Good luck with everything. Hope you'll still keep an interest in the races, even if you're not betting on them.

Raw Instinct 21st October 2007 03:52 PM

Thanks for the kind words guys I will find it hard not to keep an interest to be honest I love the sport and it truly will be a sad day for me either this coming weekend or some time over the next couple of weeks when I drain the TAB account for the last time, I love having a punt but it just is not finacially viable hopefully can learn to sit and watch the races without punting on them.

Chuck 21st October 2007 03:57 PM

good luck with everything Raw, you've been one of the better blokes around here, been some good times hope everything goes well

Horse Whisperer 21st October 2007 04:03 PM

Yeah good on ya Raw, its been good talking to you on msn over the last year or so discussing the weekends races and what not. Good luck with the house, hope everything goes well.

crash 21st October 2007 04:22 PM

Nothing wrong with $1 bets to keep your eye in Raw [you'll lose less than the rest of us :-)) ]. The house will come and today will melt into tomorrow. Stay focused and good luck mate!

Magivor 21st October 2007 04:24 PM

Dont worry about it Raw, that's what life is all about, good luck with your new endevours, and good luck with Efficient, hopefully you can go out on a high!!

Spartacus 21st October 2007 07:11 PM

I agree with crash - surely you can spare $10 a week

Sometimes the best way to punt is to put it on before the races and forget about it.

Still, will miss your posts Raw and I still hope you'll keep an eye on the Apache this spring!

Giving it up after the huge winter carnival you had ?? wow i've been going backwards this calendar year but i'm still hanging in there...miss the brissie racing scene and all that inside info that helped but there's light at the end of the tunnel..
I've always liked your tips as you think alittle outside the square ,,, i think this helped during the winter carnival with the funny tracks etc..

Hope you stick around to offer alittle advice here and there which wont cost you anything but might help us out alot..

Good Luck ..

Raw Instinct 22nd October 2007 04:50 PM

I would love to stay in the game some way but I need to really step back away from things and if i do return to punting at some point then I have to retrain myself on what type of limit I have not that I have ever over extended myself although I have spent more than I really should have a few times in the past chasing money, If I do return it can at a minimal amount and maybe that would be a good thing anyway.

For now however I will probably be finished sometime cup week which really is the last worthwhile betting for quite some time anyway. maybe 6 months out of the picture will be good however for now I am treating it more permanently.

Once again thanks for the kind words you guys have been great and it has been great to get to know you over the years had a real ball.

Raw Instinct 22nd October 2007 04:52 PM

Mav I doubt I can walk away from this place without sticking my head in every now and then plus I will be certainly still watching the races and will give an opinion now and then for sure.

Raw Instinct 10th November 2007 04:59 PM

Well that is the end today I always wanted to finish out the flemington carnival if possible and it turned out quite profitable for me paid for alot of chrissy presents for the nieces and nephews. I'll be around a bit and might even throw the odd $10 bet out there occasionally but for the most part I am finished with the game.

I have loved interacting with most of you guys on here it has been a ball hopefully you guys can take some money off those other rich **************s.

syllabus23 11th November 2007 06:39 AM

Punting is a disease mate,,once you've got it you are stuck with it,,no cure, there are remission periods but it always comes back.

I have enjoyed your posts and your approach to the game, and amongst a lot of other forumites I'm sad to see you leaving.

But mate,,,you are odds-on to be back,,we will look forward to seeing you.

Cheers for now.

crash 11th November 2007 08:13 AM

Yes i agree with syllabus23, punting is a hard game to give up completely. I've had the odd year away from it which is not such a bad thing, we come back refreshed.

Small bets are another option. I'm sure $2 a bet punters have as much fun and excitement as $100 a bet punters, but suffer a heck of a lot less stress!
