Straddie thoughts !!
Whats everyones thoughts on the straddie ??
Looking for some niced priced runners i picked out Fritz's Princess shouuld have won on the weekend and looks to be going better than ever, should get into the field and the likey fast tempo and the track suit.26's Double Dare runs in the 10,000 this week and maybe some sort of chance after his last run where he got a mile back and made a huge amount of ground chasing RTW. Another like Fritz's that will be charging late and suited track, distance and tempo. 17's Swick The one i like the most, made good ground late off a muddling tempo last start..kept on the fresh side for this assignment ticks all the boxes. The added box i'd tick for him is Class,,he's proven and wont know himself with that weight. 11's Atapi The horse is flying , Forget his last run where he was stopped when just warming up,,another who gets alot of ticks and the type that will be weaving through the field late. 14's Horses like Vormista and Reigning to win big chances but look unders at the moment. Murtijill brave last start but he wont get it easy up front. Another point i wanted to raise is "where have all the genuine good track surfaces around carnival time gone ?? " I know down south the practise is to over water alittle to make sure the surface is borderline dead (we all remember Makybe's MC ) but i think track curators are bowing to the pressure of keeping southerners and the boys over the tasman happy. (yes spoken by a true queenslander) Back in the day trainers with horses that like the firmer surface targeted the Brissie races expecting the suited surface. These days are gone i suspect .. The Gold Coast (just check the times) maybe the only track left with a genuine firm surface. Maybe i'm jumping the gun but we'll see over the next few weeks. |

Hi Maverick I agree, forget ATAPI's last run should have finished a lot closer and is primed for the straddie. The stable is buzzing bring it on. Cheers |
Vormista's just about my favourite horse in the country at the moment.
about to show the champion it will be |
I had a $5 multi on Atapi in the Stradbroke at $17 and Formula One Racer in the derby at $16 a little while ago. Needless to say, I will be very happy if those 2 get up.
|
Double Dare: I have always liked this horse he can reel off an amazing finish at times and would be suited by both the distance of the Stradbroke and the track at Eagle Farm, he just looks like the right type of horse for the race and with 52kgs he will be real hard to told out late.
Diplomatic Force: I liked thi guys run behind El Cambio last week thought it was full of merit espcially from the wide gate, he'll be having his 4th run back from a spell heading into this race with a nice 3rd in the goodwood in Adelaide 2nd up he doesn't meet El Cambio any better at the weights here but I think he'll be improved by that 1st run in QLD, he is another I think will be suited by the track and distance. Hard To Catch: Look I have always liked this horse he is gutsy as hell and right now the little bloke is weighted out of everything he is in, he gets into this race with 52.5kgs and has ran a bottler of a race in this last year probably as good as anything in the race from where he came from, this year his form has been solid without been spectacular but I think if you want a bit of a bolter at odds that might run a race for you at $61 & $16 you could do a hell of alot worse than have a bit e/w on him, the trip is ideal for him and if they go along hard he will be strong on the line. I could have named El Cambio, Vormista, Reigning to win or Atapi but whats the point blind freddie could have picked them I always have tried to find value and always will and I don't think there is any amoungst those runners. Another I would love to see make the field is Roman Squire but he has nearly no chance at all unless he can take out an exempt race which i think is the week before the straddie. |
I think Helideck will give the Staddie a good poke on 52kg. It's sectionals are top class an cops a big weight drop. A horse on the up for sure. I've backed it for it's last 3 starts and all won.
|
I wasn't sure about Helidek Crash and to be honest I was so close to throwing a $20 multibet on it last week into the straddie from the BTC Sprint it would have been $5 into $41 but in the end for some reason I just didn't do it these things happen I guess.
|
I should have said that I wasn't the biggest fan of Helideck but I thought it was overs at $41 now I feel it is massive unders at the $7 available
|
Anyone know if Pinnacles a likely starter ?? ran a massive race in the Donnie and looks suited....Beat Antidotes easily down south and that horse might have made things interesting last Saturday with some luck..if i remember corectly i think Antidotes won a big race up here last winter at Ef ..
I'm still keen on Fritz's Princess and at the 26's i'm having a go,,,(got LA Montagna at 26's a couple of years ago so there could be an omen there) |
Quote:
Fritz's Princess still around the 26's sportsbet but found her at 34's on another site :) Double Dare ...good run yesterday and in a couple of points to 15's ,,havent seen the sectionals yet but his last 200 must have been good,,,Drops 7kgs and goes to a track that will suit him better.. Swick ,,,still the horse i think with a huge chance,,he's at 10's so no real value there at the moment.. Atapi ,,the big mover ,,in 4 points to 10's ,,people willing to forgive his last run where he had to stop,,,,The 14's look good now ,, Pinnacles ,,,out to 21's,,this is value now but i'm not sure whats going on with this horse .. |
My multi is looking alright!:) Formula One Racer's run was quite good on the weekend.
|
Mav regarding Fritz's Princess be very careful with her I have thought in the past she would love 1400m but from what I have seen of her she doesn't really finish races off at the trip, you have gotten good enough odds on her so that atleast is one good thing but be very wary of her.
|
Hi Raw, ,,i know what you mean but her last run ,1400m at Randwick convinced me otherwise..the time 84.2 was ok but she was behind a wall of horses and had to check off heals, come around them and sprint again,,
given average luck she wins by a length and drops 4 kgs for the straddie,, Last time she was up she was given no chance in the winter stakes but shes a better horse this prep.. Pinnacles is coming and i'm going shopping for a price before he runs at Flemington this week,, |
Got my practical punting bible today and it made special mention of Fritz's Princess , Double Dare , Atapi , Swick and Pinnacles ,,so i must be on the right track..
|
Looks a though Fritz's Princess will strugle to make the field :( looks to be 2nd or 3rd emergency... the others will be ok,,pinnacles still 21's but that looks ok,,especially if he wins well saturday..
Swick at 11s',,,still looking for a better price.. |
Pinnacles came from last yesterday and made a stack of ground without being pushed to hard,,,on target for the Straddie,,
thought Swick looked good in his track gallop yesterday,, |

Lets keep our fingers crossed :) ,,these the horses who have put in the best Straddie trials..
Casino Prince : run in the Donnie was massive,,and then had to chase the champ RTW and did well,,, Snipers Bullett : Good run in the Donnie where he was never on the track,,,had a strong workout in his trial the other day and had to catch the speedy Devils Inside and did ,,in good time.. Chinchilla Rose : ran on strongly last week and can back up,, Pinnacles : big weight and hit the line strongly last Saturday Swick : Off a muddling tempo still made a stack of ground,,,ticking over nicely the other day against Antidotes who looks good also,,, Double Dare : Last two runs have been good pointers for this,,,seems the type that could unleash but is he missing a length of class ?? Others worth a thought Atapi : inconlusive last run where he had to stop,,,he's flying though but will he have that sprint over the 1400m ?? Vormista : forget her last run,,run previous was good and the 1400m looks ideal.. Havent mentioned Swiss aaa , Murty or Omnitrader as all three look to be the ones hightailing it up front,,,if this rain stays around old Omnitrader worth a spec at the 100's ..El Cambio i'm willing to risk ,,i didnt like him laying in the other day and he should have been winning that race alittle easier.. Diplomatic Force needs to find a length ,,German Chocolate i'd consider but i think the rain will rule him out..Absolute Galm ?? will she be fit enough.. Is it going to rain ?? the forcast says it should be fine thursday but even with a couple of days of sunshine the track has had as stack of rain and you would think will be Slow at best...maybe dead if it stays windy.. I'm still liking Swick but at the 11's i'll wait,,,I'm on Pinnacles and i'm happy with the price,,,likes the wet and the barrier isnt important,, I'd consider Snipers Bullet if he draws a barrier,,they'll ride him out of the barriers and hes the one who could box seat behind the speed.. looks a good race and finally a race that will be run at a genuine tempo.. Old Omnitrader will be a sight out front ,,,Swiss aaa and Murty the challengers then the charge of the light horseman looming large at the 300m mark.. |
Quote:
Omnitrader is not in the form that he was before he went for a spell and the track should start to dry out by Saturday. |
It will be Old Omnitrader's last run Saturday ,,hasnt he been an honest performer,,love to own him :)
He of course cant win unless the track was a mud pile ,,but he wont embarass himself and will be leading for a loing way,,,heard they are taking the blinkers off and hes been trialling like hes 3 again.. Good weather today,,,maybe just maybe we could get a dead track ?? |
Quote:
Easily dead. Perhaps even on the worse side of good if it remains fine for the rest of the week. |

Dancing Sun.... your assessed prices?
|
no, just unitab fixed odds
|
A lot of dead horses in this. Anyone know when was the last time Swick won a race?
|
Swiss aaa might be worth looking at and Helideck at the weight might be a go[?].
|
Quote:
Helideck will be racing down the straight at Doomben he will be that wide. Didn't my multi pan out well with Atapi drawing 21 and Formula One Racer 18:( |
Being wide on a better surface away from the ruck might be an advantage in this race that will be run on a rain affected track.
Last year:Sniper's Bullet 16, El Cambio 19 and Murtajill barrier 23. |
This is one race where the barriers aren't as big of a disadvantage as the can be in other races, there is plenty of speed in hs so the field should et spread out pretty early so don't be surprised if horses like El Cambio, Helideck and Diplomatic Force go forward and manage to settle in a decent position I think they all will need to to have any chance anyway so as they can take advantage of their weight advantage over horses like Swick, Casino Prince and Sniper's Bullet (I think Sniper's will go back in this years version)
|
Another sunny bay in Brissie :) looking good for Saturday but there are a few showers forcasted
I've been trying to work out a speed map and it hasnt shown up any major surprises. I hope they take advantage of the inside Barrier with Pinnacles,,,he should be 4 back on the rail ,,this for a horse like him is usually a worry but with the speed up front likely to string them out more than usual he'll get the chance to get to them quickly and with a split he'll be in the finish.. Vormista is another that should again be near pinnacles and trying to get the same sort of run.. Sniper's Bullet will be ridden agressively,,Tracey wants him ridden that way and his campaign in Sydney proved this,,,he can follow Omnitrader over and get behind the speed. Casino Prince gets a gun run..probably 2 out with cover ,,and i doubt this time he'll let them go around him and box him in.. Atapi isn't hampered by the barrier,,he'll drop out ,,as predicted earlier he'll be the one weaving through the field,, Swick is the same,,hes capable in the big field to do this though,,he might go wide with Double Dare and this will be the long way.. Mr Baritone gets probably the best run behind them and is racing very well,,he's one for your exotics.,,another the same is Black Ink . Horses i think might do it tuff in running,,,Helideck , El Cambio , Diplomatic force , Chinchilla Rose,,German Chocolate..Ab glam.. I'm risking Double Dare as i just dont think he can make the ground he needs to in the Straight as he needs to go around them,,horses like Swick and Atapi can go through the field.. The best of the frontrunners has to be Murty,,he can, from what i hear take the sit ,,he might let Swiss aaa and Omni go and tuck in behind them,, 5 chances for me so far Swick , Casino Prince , Atapi, Snipers Bullet , Vormista,,,,in the markets Snipers bullet the best value. Place chances, Murty , Mr Baritone , Double Dare , Black Ink.. |
I don't think Swick has won a race since Adam was a boy.
|
last November Crash in the big sprint down the flemo straight..huge finishing burst to win that race,,he likes the long straight and they seem to think that he races best on the fresh side..hes only had about 4 races since then..
i loved his last run chasing Apache Cat,,,that was off a slow pace and he really hit the line... think hes the record holder at sandown over this distance,, 82 flat...i dont want it to wet for him though... |
Yes, Swick's run was very good last start but it will probably be a rain affected track and he always seems to promise more than he delivers.
Pinnacles seems the obvious pick but as we all know in any race, 'obvious' has a bad habit of getting beaten. |
I would be very surprised if the track for the straddie is worse than a dead 3, as we have had nothing but clear sunny skies all day and high winds at nite for the last 3days and the same expected tomorrow. Im only 2 blocks from Eagle Farm and tghe weather is exceptional and that track has the best draining preperation facilities in the land. Would not be surprised to see the track upgraded by straddie time, to possibly even GOOD.
If this is the case i would think Oliver just has to stay out of trouble, with Double Dare the knockout horse for me. Good Luck |

"As a punter, do you ever sit down in the cold hard light of day and ask yourself one simple question: How can a man who works five hours in a normal week, maybe ten in a big week be worth 20 times what the punter who is betting with him, is worth, yet the punter can work his or her butt off for 50 or 60 hours a week? How is it possible to “work” a maximum of only five or ten hours a week, yet be a multi millionaire? The answer is simple - a bookmaker only needs to “work” five hours a week per meeting to earn a good living, as there will always be mug punters eager to donate to his coffers. The bloke, or woman, who works 40 or 60 hours a week doesn’t get time to have a “midday matinee” - or go to the club - for a three or four hour lunch, but the wealthy bookmaker certainly does. Bookmakers really enjoy Carnival time, as the non-thinking punters are out in droves. The bookies lay their dingo traps and one by one cash strapped punters - hapless poor aaaaaas - often half full of alcohol and bad manners, walk up to place copious numbers of red and gold notes into the big white bag that they have at the front of their stand. Have you ever sat down and wondered how much cash would actually fit in a “big white bag”? Believe me - literally hundreds of thousands of dollars would fit." Purser. |
My multi is obviously on Atapi but I think I will back Diplomatic Force even if stays outside $17.
|
Happy with my picks ...I got 12's for Swick and i've taken that,,,i'll hope for even better on track tomorrow ..Pinnacles at 21's is looking good...
I doubt i'll back anything else unless the track is rated a good dead then i might chase a price for Atapi.. Heard they are going to ride double Dare alittle closer ,,this i think will give him atleast a chance in this field..he would be just to far back otherwise and would have circle the whole field..its a risk as he might resent being pushed early but i'm puting him in my exotics anyway... Looks a great race and i just hope the rain stays away.. |
