Sky Greyhound Ratings.
I'm still laying the Sky non-selections on the horses and have not yet been hit with a losing day - touch wood!
However, I've also been looking at the greyhound ratings. So far, if there is a gap of at least 30 points between the top rated and the second rated selection then the Place results have been quite profitable, so too the strike rate. It would be expected that the divvy would be very skinny but surprisingly this is not necessarily true. For example, last night there were five selections. They all placed, and the NSW TAB divvies were $2.00, $1.50, $1.10, $1.40 and $1.80. Has anyone got records of the greyhound ratings and results? |
If anyone's interested, today's selections are:
Casino R5 no.1 Casino R9 no.2 Richmond R8 no.3 Traralgon R1 no.5 Traralgon R5 no.4 Wangaratta R1 no.2 (Already run. It placed paying $1.04). |
Always interested in your efforts Michael
|
Thanks, Mancunian.
You'd expect the strike rate to be very high but as to the divvies? - time will tell. Anyone know of a bookie who gives the highest Place TAB divvie or the best of two TABs for the 'hounds? |
$1.04 ???
WOW!!! Obviously a very slow way to make a Profit. Hope you live long enough to spend the winnings. I had a play at place Punting , but those ridiculous small pools killed me. The approximates aren't even that! Could pay anything at any time. But $1.04 is about usual. Good luck with it, but I suggest you stick with what was working. |
Hi, Mooeee.
There was another success that paid $1.04. However the system showed a profit of $0.08 thanks to divvies on the other selections. I'll continue to follow the system and hope the divvies aren't too disappointing. No selections today. |
Six selections today:
Angle Park R5 no.4 Cranbourne R1 no.4 Granbourne R2 no.4 Geelong R5 no.1 Geelong R9 no.2 Launceston R6 no.6 |
Lucky to get $1.04. On Unitab, there is no such thing as $1.04. For example, if your dog/horse should theoretically be paying $1.09, they round it all the way down to $1.00, so you just get your money back.

I'm quite certain a law was enacted here in NSW in the '70's that if your selection won then you had to show a profit.
However that does not excuse the way divvies here are calculated. A 50 cent divvy is originally assumed and then rounded down by a multiple of 10 cents. It is now doubled for the declared divvy. For example, a 50 cent winning ticket after the TAB 15% (approx) might pay a true $0.99 but is then rounded down to $0.90, instead of $0.95. The $0.90 is then doubled to $1.80 which is the divvy declared by the TAB. Yet if it was calulated on a $1 basis, the true divvy would be $1.98 which is then rounded down to $1.90 - not the TAB's declared divvy of $1.80. The smaller the divvy then generally the greater profit percentagewise for the TAB. In reality, many of the $1.04 divvies should pay $1.10, approx half of the $1.10 divvies should pay $1.20, etc. I am under the strong impression the other TABs do not calculate their divvies using this method? |
Are you sure? I can't believe that. I assumed that all tabs worked it out on the basis of $1 units. Unitab certainly does.
|
Prior to privatisation of the TAB, the incumbent gov't and oppositions in their pre-election speeches promised to cancel this unfair method of divvy calculation but we all know about pollies' promises.
Ken Callender was probably the loudest voice against the introduction and continuation of it. I suppose its not surprising that many $1.04 and $1.10 divvies can be obtained at much better prices on Betfair. The best example I've seen is a $1.04 TAB divvy have a final traded price on Betfair of $1.29. |
Here's another Sky greyhound system I'm looking at (and been betting).
1 ) Must be sole 100 pointer. 2 ) Must be the sole top Early Speed selection. Because the first four selections have already been run, and have either won or placed, I'll list the remaining selections and see how they go. Albion Park R9 no.1 Angle Park R2 no.3 Angle Park R8 no.3 Wentworth R9 no.2 Already run are: Geelong R2 no.1 - won, $1.30 and $1.40 Geelong R6 no.8 - won, $2.10 and $1.20 Geelong R8 no.3 - 2nd, $1.30 Geelong R9 no.2 - won, $1.70 and $1.04. |
After scratchings, there were four 30 pointers selections. Two won for a loss of $0.80 and all four placed for a profit of $1.04.
After scratchings, there were six Sole 100 Pointer with top Early Speed selections. Four won for a profit of $1.60 and all six placed for a profit of $1.64. |
Today's selections are:
30 Points Method Devenport R2 no.8 Devenport R3 no.2 Gawler R10 no.4 Gosford R5 no.7 Horsham R10 no.8 Ipswich R6 no.3 Ipswich R10 no.2 Warragul R6 no.7 Early Speed Method Devenport R4 no.8 Gosford R1 no.3 Ipswich R4 no.5 |
4 out of 4 both ways, so far Michael. Congrats (trust I haven't cruelled things now!!)

You were asking about best greyhound divs. in an earlier post, Michael. I have just noticed that Canbet and IAS, although having an identical set up, are paying based on different totes. Your first three picks today:
Dev. 2 CANBET 1.52/1.01 IAS 1.41/1.06 Dev. 3 " 1.21/1.41 " 1.41/1.32 Gaw. 10 " 3.69/1.32 " 3.06/1.32 Worth keeping an eye on. Of course, it begs the question as to which will be paying the best in any given race! Went to a lot of trouble placing the above in nice columns --- and this is how it turned out!!! I guess you can understand it though. |
Thanks, Merriguy.
As you say, its difficult to know which will pay the best. I will compare them with the TAB and see if any one is superior, but with such small pools I think they will more or less be identical over time. Pity we can't bet Place on Betfair as I think it would not be too hard to get some good divvies for TAB money-back, just like with the horses. |
Nice start Michael.
All-ups look like a potential if this kind of result continues. What I've seen of all-ups to date is that they are confined to the one meeting i.e. to bet Gawl R1 to Geel R3 to Hba R6 you would need to be sitting at the computer and reinvesting your return from each race as you got the result. Anyone know of TAB or bookie where you can go across meetings ? cheers ...Mancunian |
I think parlays would also be promising. The NSW TAB had been considering inter-meeting parlays and all-ups a few years ago but I'm not sure whether its currently available. Maybe someone can confirm this? I'll have a look at their website later today, maybe even try to have an inter-meeting bet and see what happens.
30 Points - yesterday there were 7 selections for 5 placegetters for a loss of $0.42, and 5 winners for a profit of $1.90. There have now been 14 placegetters from 17 selections for a POT of 4.11%, and 11 winners for a POT of 15.88%. Interestingly, Win betting after such a small sample has been outperforming Place in both methods - maybe its just going through a lucky period. Top Early Speed - yesterday there were 3 selection, all three placed for a profit of $1.84. Only one selection won for a loss of $0.50. There have now been 9 placegetters from 9 selections for a POT of 38.66%, and 5 winners for a POT of 22.22%. Today's selections: 30 Points Ballarat R5 no.3 Bendigo R9 no.1 Bulli R9 no.3 Ipswich R2 no.3 The Gardens R9 no.6 Top Early Speed Angle Park R3 no.3 Bulli R9 no.3 Cannington R6 no.3 The Gardens R1 no.3 |
The NSW TAB does not offer inter-meeting all-ups or parlays. In fact, it seems they no longer offer all-ups, only parlays.
30 Pointers. Yesterday was not a good day. There were 3 placegetters from 5 selections for a loss of $0.60, but Win betting provided a profit of $0.30. There have now been 17 placegetters from 22 selections for a POT of 0.05%, and 14 winners from 22 selections for a POT of 13.6%. Best Early Speed. From yesterday's 4 selections there were 3 placegetters for a return of $5.90 but winning betting provided a return of $1.60. There have now been 12 placegetters from 13 selections for a POT of 41.3% but 6 winners for a LOT of 16%. Today's selections: 30 Pointers Albion R2 no.1 Angle R4 no.7 Hobart R1 no.7 Hobart R7 no.1 Hobart R9 no.2 Horsham R4 no.4 Horsham R7 no.8 Maitland R10 no.3 Best Early Speed. Horsham R2 no.5 Maitland R9 no.1 Mandurah R3 no.1 Sandown R5 no.1 |
Not a good day yesterday.
30 Pointers - there were 5 placegetters from 8 selections for a loss of $0.16, and 4 winners for a loss of $2.30. There have now been 30 selections for 22 placegetters for a LOT of 0.05%, and 18 winners for a POT of 0.22. Top Early Speed - from yesterday's 3 selections there was one placegetter for a loss of $1.60, and one winner for a loss of $0.50. There have now been 13 placegetters from 16 selections for a POT of 23.62%, and 7 winners for a LOT of 16.8%. Today's selections: 30 Pointers Casino R6 no.3 Casino R8 no.5 Geelong R8 no.1 Richmond R1 no.6 Richmand R3 no.6 Richmond R7 no.4* Richmond R8 no.6 Richmond R9 no.5 The Gardens R3 no.5* The Gardens R5 no.2 Traralgon R2 no.3* Traralgon R9 no.4* Top Early Speed Geelong R5 no.7 Geelong R11 no.1 Richmond R7 no.4* The Gardens R3 no.5* Traralgon R2 no.3* Traralgon R5 no.8 Traralgon R9 no.4* Traralgon R10 no.1 * = selected by both methods |
After yesterday I'll only continue with the Place method for the 30-pointers as it is in profit in spite of the measly divvies. Seven of the 31 placegetters from the 41 selections have paid $1.04!!!
Two selections today: Cannington R5 no.3 Cannington R6 no.5. |
