Fantasy Racing Comp (Spring 2009)
 

Just posting this now as a word of warning for you to start thinking about what horses are going to win the big ones. I'm going to open up this comp after Saturday's races, and it will run on all group 1 & group 2 races run in Sydney & Melbourne between next Saturday (Sep 12) and the end of the Melbourne Cup carnival. It's going to be based on scoring points for finishing in the first 4 in each of these feature races. Ohhh and something a bit different this time. We have a trainer and a jockey in our stable as well who earn points for us.

Okay, here we go. Firstly here's the list of races we'll be using for our comp....

The numbers in brackets are the points that go to the horses finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, then the points that go to the winning trainer, then the winning jockey.

The first thing we have to do is pick our 3 "stable stars" and our trainer.

The "stable stars" are 3 horses that we pick now and they stay with us right through to the end of the comp, injury, poor form whatever. You get double points for your stable stars.

As well as picking these 3 horses, we also have to pick a trainer for our stable, and again, your trainer stays with you right to the end of the comp. We will be able to pick a different jockey each race day, but only one trainer for the whole duration of the comp, so we have to choose wisely.

Now, each horse, trainer and jockey is given a rating out of 5 points, and the salary cap for this first part of the comp is 15 points. In other words, we have to find 3 "stable stars" AND a trainer and they must add up to no more than 15 points in total. I've listed 100 horses and 20 trainers here, but you can choose a horse or trainer that I haven't listed if you want and that will cost you just 1 point. There are possibly some good horses which I've left out by mistake, in which case, you have a bargain.

Okay, here we go for week one. A pretty quiet start to ease us into things. Just 3 group 2 races........

Here's what we have to do. We have to choose 3 horses and 1 jockey and the total points must not be more than 15. Important to note that you don't have to pick one horse from each race. You can pick 3 horses from the same race if you wish. You just have to pick 3 horses and 1 jockey.

Just so that nobody is advantaged or disadvantaged by scratchings, the deadline for posting your selections is 7:30 Saturday morning (scratching time). I don't know how many of you will be up and about then, so I strongly suggest you try to get your selections in by Friday night. With regards to scratchings, if you pick a horse that comes out, that is just bad luck. You don't get a reserve pick or another go or anything like that.

Should we post selections here, or send them to you via email? And are we doing the McEwan, Research and Kingston Town Stakes Races as well, or are we just sticking to the Group 1 and 2 races?

Just post them here. And yes, it's only group 1 & group 2 races. I will post all the races you have to worry about.

That list of races on page 1 of this thread won't be totally correct as some races may have been downgraded recently to group 3 or some others upgraded to group 2.

In any case, with the jockeys going out on strike, perhaps there may not be any races on Saturday to bother about.
